Casa Pacis - House of Peace - Superb WW-Views in desirable Sea Ranch location

The Sea Ranch is a world-renowned primary and secondary home community along a 10-mile stretch of California's breathtaking, beautiful coastline, about 110 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. The Sea Ranch is particularly famous for its strict architectural standards, following the motto "building light on the land.'" (Houses intentionally have unobtrusive sidings and modest appearance in order to optimally blend into the environment; vehicles are parked out of view; underground power lines). Casa Pacis shares three lot lines with commons areas and the 4th with two undeveloped lots, which provides for exceptional privacy. The Sea Ranch territory includes tens of miles of private roads, many hiking trails, and three recreation centers that are open to our renting guests (free or charge). Features such as no street lighting, fences not marking lot lines but only to shield cars from outside view, no overhead power lines, no sidewalks, and no roof-top antennas clearly differentiate Sea Ranch from normal 'suburbia.'

Located directly above the Sea Ranch's most beautiful sand dunes, at a cul-de-sac near "Walk-on-Beach," this small and over-all modest vacation home has picturesque ocean views from everywhere inside. Our "House of Peace" has large wrap-around decks and lots of privacy.

The "Casa Pacis" home has approximately 900 square feet of rented living area and a view loft. It features ceramic tile floors and wall-to-wall carpeting, as well as vaulted ceilings in all rooms. Large view windows, comfortable furniture, a cozy conventional open fireplace, and decor will contribute to making your stay pleasant and memorable. The kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances. Enjoy the extra-large wrap-around deck area with built-in hot tub (with ocean view), and the overall uniquely private yet close-to-ocean setting.

Lovely stay!

I've stayed in many Sea Ranch homes over the decades and this may be my favorite yet. The size was perfect for us, there were spectacular white water views and the ease of walking to the bluffs was terrific. I also liked that is was so close to Gualala and galleries and restaurants and groceries. A wonderful time all around!

The home is amazing. Had a group of 9 staying and more than enough room for everyone. Owners were attentive when microwave not working and had a new one in the next day. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again!

Perfect proximity

Love this house, the size (just perfect for two), the proximity to the beach, and the friendliness of the hosts. Close enough to walk to, see and hear the ocean, but far enough not to see Bluff Trail walkers right up close. Tidy, well equipped, with lots of privacy too. Hosts friendly and responsive. Will definitely want to stay again when in Sea Ranch.

Sea Ranch is a wonderful coastal getaway in Northern California and Casa Pacis is an excellent, comfortable, and convenient home for any twosome. Clean, functional, and with all the necessities and more. The house is nicely located in terms of its magnificent views, walking trails, recreation centers as well as shopping and restaurant conveniences in the town of Gualala.

Anniversary get away

The energy of this VRBO was perfect, very artistic setting. Truly a place to relax. Close access to the beach, and walking paths. VRBO needs some TLC. Deep cleaning, new window treatments, and updated furniture. This was our first visit to Sea Ranch, and we will be visiting again. Not sure if it would be Casa Pacis.

Beautiful area with breathtaking scenery. Great places to hike and trails everywhere. Bring food with you or be prepared to go to the grocery store often. A lot of restaurants are closed during the beginning of the week, even in the other closest towns. Check before you go. Bring spices and things with you as the house has no food condiments or seasonings. When I go again, I will plan the food part of my trip better. Otherwise a nice stay and very relaxing.

We provide paper and cleaning products, and some teas usually coffee. Since seasonings are so much a matter of individual taste and need to be fresh, we mostly rely on our guests to bring their own favorite spices. There are also two supermarkets in Gualala, just 2.5 miles north of Casa Pacis. Following the pandemic, it has become exceedingly difficult for restaurants to retain qualified personnel, and we all are looking forward to getting back to some more "normal" situation. We keep a section in our dedicated website, where we include recommendations about local restaurants.

Two Winning Features

The two winning features of this home are its location and the rental cost. The home is very tired and it shows everywhere - from sliding glass and screen doors to indoor and outdoor furniture. The decor is quaint but out-of-date and the outdoor spa/hot tub is small and control panel is hard to figure out. There is more to comment on but enough for now. I only wish we knew the age and condition of the place before we rented. I’m certain the owners are good people and we’ll intentioned. But if it was not for the price I might suggest either an update or drop it out of the VRBO rental pool.

We still make our small, modest, clean vacation home with terrific unobstructed ocean views, located in a most desirable location close to the bluff trail and the only sand dunes of Sea Ranch, yet quiet and with supreme privacy, available for guests to enjoy at very reasonable cost. We do offer the amenities which a party of two people typically likes, including a K-bed with recent new mattress, unlimited free high-speed Internet, kitchen with all major appliances, a professionally serviced hot tub, two W/D units, as well as some timeless, comfortable Scandinavian furniture, of our taste. At least 180 out of the most recent 184 reviews attest that our guests overwhelmingly like their choice.

Casa Pacis: Nice place and responsive owner

Casa Pacis is a nice (in the traditional and interesting Sea Ranch style), peaceful (away from other houses and distractions), and well-equipped (nicely provided kitchen, electronics, WIFI, etc.) house. The property is well maintained. Unfortunately, when my wife and I were at the house, we had a couple of problems – a window blind broke and we had objectionable heater noise in the master bedroom. The owner was responsive to correcting the problems, and I doubt other guests will be affected by them. The check-out housekeeping requirements were also a bit confusing and a burden for us, but the owner was open to receiving feedback. Within days, a clear and very fair new policy was implemented. It is reassuring that in addition to providing a nice place for guests, the owner is interested in their satisfaction and is responsive if problems arise. A note on activities: The house is a good place to relax and get away from it all – it even has a small library of books. Outdoor possibilities are fantastic: Numerous walking/hiking trails that offer a variety of land and ocean settings. We saw whales, seals, pelicans, and deer on our walks. There is good street cycling because roads in the Sea Ranch complex are lightly traveled (guests can use a couple of bikes at the house, but we brought our own). We discovered hidden beaches and groves of woods here and there. Tips: Bring slippers as the owner asks that outdoor shoes not be worn in the house. We liked this because the floors and carpets were very clean. Also be prepared to dress in layers: The weather changes almost daily (fog on some days and full sun on others – typical of the northern California coast). Know what California’s seemingly most common native shrub-vine, poison oak (Toxicodendron diversilobum), looks like and avoid it. There is none on the property, but it crops up near trails. The Surf Supermarket in nearby Gualala on Hwy 1 doesn’t look like much from the road, but we liked it a lot better than the Gualala Supermarket across the street. Check out the nice selection of local artisan breads at Surf.

A very private beautifully located home

Casa Pasis was a great discovery for us in Sea Ranch. It is a perfect place for as couple. The house has a very private location, unlike many ocean front houses which are right on the public beach trail. At the same time it has a wonderful unobstructed view of the ocean. The house is extremely well equipped for a very comfortable stay. The hosts were very quick to answer all our questions, and a pleasure to communicate with. We stayed in many houses in Sea Ranch, and Casa Pasis is among the two very best (the other house which we liked is much larger and not anymore on the market). So we will certainly be back.

A delightful place to be

The house was lovely, beautiful fresh flowers in the house that were very much appreciated , a glorious unobstructed view. A perfect Sea Ranch house, most definitely the nicest of the houses that we have stayed in sea ranch over the years. Overall extremely comfortable with everything anyone could possibly need. Even the pillows were comfortable. We had a very nice time.

A Tranquil Respite

Aptly named, Casa Pacis is a peaceful, comfortable and well cared for home with beautiful ocean views from every room. A wonderful getaway

We loved Casa Pacis. It is a warm, comfortable home equipped with everything we needed and more. It's location near the bluffs overlooking the ocean is perfect. We could hear the breakers even from the home. It's proximity to Gualala was also appreciated. We had a memorable week. and would love to return.

We discovered Sea Ranch shortly after we had immigrated to the United States, and immediately fell in love with it, probably because it reminded us in natural beauty of the Amalfi Coast in Italy and in climate of the German North Sea islands. We purchased our lot and built Casa Pacis in 1983 and enjoyed every minute of our numerous stays in this gorgeous environment ever since. It is remarkable that, even though many years passed since we first visited Sea Ranch, the unique character of this incredible place has been preserved. Much of the interior and exterior has been renovated.
