About Toni Tacoma

I am a decorator at heart and a retired decorator by profession. It is with great pleasure that I continue finding ways to make your stay more comfortable. I live at Casa Panama part time with my sister Teri. We rent Casa Panama in various combinations of accommodations at certain times of the year. We call the downstairs of Casa Panama, Casatina which is a unit all to itself. We open Casatina to rent about a month out giving you an opportunity to be on the property and have a stay in the smaller portion of the house.

Every day we spend there is like a little heaven on earth and I hope you find the same true for you!

I am originally from San Diego daughter of a well-known fashion professional of the same name and a Dutch father, a cabinet maker who built not only all the furniture but also designed and built our home on a ranch in the country. All of the famous designers visited the ranch for sophisticated parties and events while on the flip side my sister and brother and I might have been out picking oranges, tending the animals or riding our horses.

I have always loved the ocean and have fond childhood memories of daddy taking us out in the San Diego Bay for fishing trips on his cabin cruiser. I have lived on or near the sea for the past 40 years with a memorable stint in the Caribbean for 12 of those years. When I moved to the Northern California area, I just fell in love with Jenner at first sight. The people and the place just resonates a vibe you will never forget.

Why Toni Tacoma chose Jenner

The history of the Jenner area is best told by our local historian Elinor Twohy. For my part I know that the sister of Josephine Santos Wright married and built what is now Casa Panama with her husband in 1950.

History of the Jenner Area by Elinor Twohy

We know that Pomo Indians had been living here for 3,000 years; however archaeologists have recently uncovered significant evidence in the middle of Duncan's Landing which may prove that Pomos were here for 10,000 years.

'Pomo' is an overall name covering six language groups and several different tribes. The local tribe, know as the Del Rio Indians, was friendly with their neighbors from around Bodega Bay, the Miwoks. From a study of the middens, we believe that they had ceremonial gatherings at Duncan's Landing.

In the 1920's the two Penny brothers owned & lived on the twenty-nine acre island that is in the middle of the river, directly in front of the town of Jenner. One brother was drowned in an accident at sea. When the other brother became ill, he wished to live the rest of his life on the island & to be buried there.

Joe Santos had come from Guam, married a local Pomo woman, built a house near the river mouth on Goat Rock Beach, & started a family. Joe agreed to carry out Penny's wishes, & in return the island was deeded to him. Joe then built a house on the island, where the Santos family grew fruits & vegetables, raised dairy cattle, & sold their produce to townsfolk of Jenner and Monte Rio. The Santos family lived on Penny Island until 1948.

One daughter, Josephine Santos Wright, born in 1904 in the original house on Goat Rock beach, still resides in Jenner & provides us with authentic historical information.

In 1975 the island was finally acquired by the State of California Department of Parks & Recreation. It has become a sanctuary for animals and birds; recent sightings include foxes, a bob cat, a mink, great horned & barn owls, & both white & brown pelicans.

What makes this apartment unique

I fell in love with this property at first sight. The moment I walked in the view just took my breath away. I bought the house from the original owners who were directly related to the areas Native American band of Pomo Indians. The house was hand crafted in 1950 of regional old growth redwoods. The property was carefully selected to get the best of the sun all year around and the best view Jenner had to offer and of Penny Island family home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

WOW! That will be the first word everyone who enters this home will utter. As the caption states, Casa Panama comes complete with breathtaking views and sunny living areas in addition to providing all the comforts of home. We were truly mesmerized. Finding a pet-friendly rental that isn't run down and/or furnished with pets in mind, is rare. When I happened upon this property, I thought it had to be too good to be true and I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I was taking my three children and their mates to Yosemite and my eldest daughter, who resides in San Francisco, was only going to be able to get off of work for three days. So, I decided to book a place that was within a couple hours drive for her so she could at least join us for part of the vacation. What a fantastic choice this was! The home is furnished with anything and everything anyone could possibly want--even skewers for roasting marshmallows over the outdoor fire pit and plush towels for the hot tub! And the furnishings, artwork and amenities are top notch. We had a fantastic time playing games in the living room and sitting around the outdoor dining table on the deck--surrounded by beauty. When it was time to retire, the beds were a plush escape. We rented out the entire house so everyone could have their own room which worked out especially well since doing so provided an additional bathroom and easier access to the hot tub and patio areas. From my first contact with Toni on the telephone, to our driving away to our next destination, everything was perfect. We loved the town of Jenner and the people who comprise it! Thanks to all for a great reunion with my children!

Crazy views!

  • 5 of 5

It's rare to find spectacular vistas from your patio of both a gorgeous river AND the ocean. This place has both and 3 patios (off the house, a bbq/fireplace patio below, and a bonus deck with hot tub overlooking the beach/ocean) from which to visually feast on the beauty of Jenner's unique position. Highly recommended.

Excellent view of the river and coast right out the door.

Comfortable stay with everything you need. Waking up to views right out the window is a nice feature. A short walk down the road to the coffee shop or dinner at Rivers End. A nice getaway location.

Beautiful view and garden to ourselves

  • 4 of 5

A great stay with kitchenette. Lots of local info and the place is so lovely I enjoyed being inside and outside. I am not a cat person and the rug looks like serious cat territory, but they understood to stay outside.

Relaxing and enjoyable

  • 4 of 5

We needed a break from our daily business life and Casatina provided that for us. We liked walking around the grounds. The bed was comfortable as was the seating area.

Only issues for us were that other than the small kitchen counter, there are no table and chairs to have breakfast or supper. .

Lastly, on our last day there, our intent was to read and relax having visited Bodega Bay, Guerneville, Armstrong Woods on other days. However, there was chainsaw work being done that day so we again had to find another option off of the property.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. I'm glad you were comfortable but sorry you missed a table and chairs. The thinking was to give space to the unit providing 2 stools at the counter. I will have a table brought in for future use. The chain saw work was being done on neighboring property which in a rural area like this can happen from time to time. I'm sorry for any inconvenience it created for you.
