Relax in the hot tub as you gaze out over the Shenandoah River glistening in the sunset, the Massanutten Range and the Alleghenies across the Valley. The most idyllic view on aptly named High Top Rd!

Get away to an alternate reality of stress-free country living.

(And at an elevation of 1,414 feet it’s always 10-15 degrees cooler than the city!)

Welcome to Valley Vista Cabin, less than an hour from the DC beltway in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia with magnificent views overlooking the Shenandoah Valley! Enjoy remote solitude above the little village of Linden, just 9 miles from the historic town of Front Royal, the northern gateway to Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park.

In the rural Mountain View Section of Shenandoah Farms subdivision, which was planned back in the ’70’s as a vacation community, on a secluded arm of Blue Mountain, now surrounded on three sides by the 1200 acre Blue Ridge Reserve conservation wilderness. And the eastern slope of Blue Mountain is the 4,000 acre G Richard Thompson Wildlife Management Area.

There are 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a fully equipped kitchen (including icemaker, coffee maker & grinder, microwave, etc.), a washer/dryer, and woodstove*. Linens, towels and soap are providedǂ. All you need to bring is your food , clothes and personal toiletries.

On the 2 large decks with tables and chairs, are both gas and charcoal grills. (Charcoal is not supplied, but is usually left behind by previous guests.) In the yard, enjoy the 36 jet hot tub, fire cauldron, fire pit, and chimenea (wood supplied).

Convenient to local wineries, caverns, Shenandoah River and Shenandoah National Park/Skyline Drive.

We are a hands-on operation, living nearby, so your experience here will feel a bit more personal than at a typical vacation rental. We enjoy providing our guests with a special experience and hope that you'll appreciate the idyllic setting and all the little extras offered.

Self check-in time: anytime after 4 PM / Check-out time: anytime before 11 AM

The last 1.5 mile of road is gravel. Check our website for a video.

We welcome well behaved dogs. There is a $30 pet fee. If the pet fee is not prepaid at booking, it will be deducted from your security deposit refund. Be advised that there is a county-wide leash law.

We welcome well behaved children.

You should note however that the environment is not particularly conducive to small children's enjoyment. There's no lawned yard to play in, the terrain is very steep and rocky, and the woods has poison ivy and snakes. Inside and on the deck we have not addressed any child safety issues as we have no experience in that regard and it's not been our focus clientele. There is no community playground, and the youngest kids in the neighborhood are of junior high age. The community lakes have no beaches, lifeguards, or restrooms. The closest playground is about 12 miles from the cabin in Front Royal .

Motorcycles are welcome, but even though neighbors on the road have them, every guest who has brought one has complained about the road, so just be advised.

In winter 4WD or AWD may be required. The County is diligent in plowing, but roads can remain icy long after a storm. VRBO offers trip insurance. Enterprise in Front Royal has RAV4s for $70/day. In the event the road is impassible even for 4WD, rescheduling is allowed for available dates of equal value. (We live on the same road so we can keep you advised of current conditions.)

ATVs, discharging firearms, outdoor fires before 4 PM, and disturbing noise after 10 PM are prohibited by various ordinances and covenants.

* The woodstove is an efficient auxiliary heat source for heating the common areas, however continual use will prevent the furnace from activating and thus the bedrooms will become colder.

ǂThere is no extra charge for the number of guests (max 6), but we supply the cabin for your visit based on the number you tell us will be coming.

We do offer a 10% discount to active duty military and retirees. Please advise us prior to booking so we can send you an adjusted quote.

Please access and like our Facebook page - Valley Vista Cabin - as that is where we post info about local restaurants specials, events, info about Shenandoah Park and any discounts we are offering on the cabin.

Everything was great. The house was clean, very beautiful landscape around the property. Chris was very nice and helpful. Scooter was an amazing deer. Wanted to take him home. Thanks Chris and Steve for a great stay.

As advertised

This place is the quiet, private and peaceful retreat we were looking for. Steve and Chris have a wonderful cabin in an awesome location that is the best appointed resort home we have ever stayed in. If you think you need to bring it don't. The cabin was cozy but comfortable for the the three adults and two kids in our party. The hot tub is first rate and private. We will be back here or their other cabin soon!

Owner's Response: Thank you for being our guests. We really enjoyed hosting your family. It looked like the kids really enjoyed it. Next visit you'll have to take them tubing/canoeing on the Shenandoah or on the zip line canopy tour in the nearby State Park. We look forward to your next visit.

The property was very well maintained and inviting.

The house was so clean and everything you could want was available. The owners were especially nice to us. And I thank them for all of their kindness and help. I would really like to know what they use on their hardwood floors, they looked beautiful. Thank you again, we really enjoyed the animals. I wish you both all the best.

Owner's Response: Thanks to your family for being our guests. You were perfect guests and very respectful of the house and property. You even were able to meet and spend time with our friendly deer - Scooter. Isn't he special. As to the hardwood floors, we use a vinegar/water mix to clean them. The commercial products can hurt the protective coating and build up a coating that discolors. Please come back and visit again.

Feel your stress melt away as you pull into the driveway!

For this family vacation, we opted for Valley Vista Cabin, a change from the B&B or tent-camping we usually opt for. We'd never rented a property, but we'll be back to THIS one!! So many homey touches. So many thoughtful extras. Lots of valuable advice about the beautiful environs. Such comfort, and meant to cater to the guest in his/her quest for relaxation. The hosts of Valley Vista go over and above, and and succeeded in making our family vacation one of our very best (and they didn't even have to come in and cook us breakfast!) I especially appreciated the attention to detail with respect to our comfort, the cleanliness, and in the decor and surroundings. Wildlife is abundant outside the cabin--bring the binoculars! The Shenandoah Valley in April is peaceful and fresh, with myriad opportunities for recreation, and coming "home" to Valley Vista was welcome indeed!

Owner's Response: We loved hosting your family and look forward to doing it again. Yes, spring on the mountain and in the Valley is beautiful but there is so much to do all seasons. Next time you will have to canoe/kayak the River and go zip lining.

Well Appointed Relaxing Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four spent a long, lovely 2016 Thanksgiving weekend at Valley Vista. It was cozy and comfortable with an updated modern feel. The lower level guest suite was perfect for my husband and me with the same great view as the main level. Our girls each had their own room off the family room with a shared bathroom. We were entertained by the constant activity at the bird feeder off the deck while we lounged by the wood burning stove, reading and listening to music. The well-appointed kitchen had everything we could possibly need. The hot tub was a bonus. We spent several nights in the bubbling water gazing at the stars through the tree tops. It was divine!

Steve and Chris couldn’t have been better hosts. We were greeted by a bottle of wine from a local winery and a gift card for a free tasting which we took advantage of before returning home. They also provided baskets of goodies and toiletries that were most welcome. The entire stay was tranquil and memorable. We would definitely stay at Valley Vista again and highly recommend it as a relaxing get-away.

Thank you Steve and Chris!

Owner's Response: We are glad we could make your Thanksgiving special and appreciate your kind words. We really strive to make it a pleasant experience. We sure hope we can host your family again soon. We are getting a number of reservations for this Spring/Summer from families that realize how much there is to do around here - Lural Caverns, Dinosaurland, zip lining, canoeing the Shenandoah River, visiting Shenandoah Park and much more

Sanctuary in the Trees

  • 5 of 5

This place was a marvel. Upon arrival, we were amazed at the well-appointed design and consistent accommodations from state of the art appliances and well-equipped kitchen and deck(s) to the beautiful design borne of the true talent and classy taste orchestrated by the owners. Perfect for couples or a small groups of friends or family. It is all about Peace and diversity -- a nature-valuing community of nice people without judgement. We were also impressed by the above and beyond access and instruction (and great price) which made the rental a seamless encounter. There is no need for anything. Bring your food is all. It is rustic, yet modern. Meet "Scooter", the neighborhood trained and neutered young buck who comes by to visit, eats from your hand and gives kisses. Enjoy the beautiful hot tub that is easy to access and has a stunning view of the Shenandoah River and the valley below. Feel confident in a secured home with the most comfortable beds and bathrooms, efficient heating and cooling, plumbing; and complimentary wine from the local vineyard (a delicious Syrrah we relished with steaks off the dual grill). Most of all, it was such a peaceful retreat, you could "hear" the silence away from the bustling world below. Mid- autumn gave us color and the rustle of leaves, the darting of the birds, the ever-changing views in the valley. Even a night of rain was a welcome lullaby. Traversing up and down the mountain can be a bit of a challenge -- you can avoid this entirely by bringing all your food and drink comforts, but Front Royal has everything for groceries or eating out. All information for favorite endeavors is meticulously provided as well as books on the history of the region in the cabin. Plus, great TV, stereo, Wi-Fi. Skyline Drive is minutes away, great hiking trails, or just meandering through this part of Virginia's wine country gives sites and sounds most appreciated for a well-rounded escape. We loved The Giving Tree at the bottom of the mountain for organic and local produce (and meats) as well as the gallery of arts and crafts by the lovely artist and owner. This was a lucky find, a gem within the maze. Definitely a come-back place to explore during other seasons. Thanks, guys!

So glad y'all had a good time, & hope you'll come back to visit whenever you can. And Scooter sends a lick. :-) Cheers Chris & Steve
