About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Sleeping Porch, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-10)

Fawn Lake Hideaway is a unique, lakefront home offering privacy with all the comforts of home. There are two bedrooms on the upper floor, a full bathroom, kitchen and dining area and a living room. On the lower, walk-out level is the third bedroom, another full bathroom, a family room, and the laundry area. We offer complimentary Wi-Fi service.

On each of the floors overlooking the water are screened porches. There is also a large deck with a grill and patio furniture, which overlooks the lake. This floor plan offers privacy for the families vacationing together or gives the children a little space of their own.Outside is a fire pit for your evening enjoyment.

We are located on a 'no wake' lake where the fishing is great. There is another lake about 100 yards away which also is a fine fishing lake. There is a row boat tied to your own private dock plus two kayaks for your personal use. We also have a boat on the nearby lake that you can use.

We have ten acres of woods plus we are adjacent to miles of state land, so the hiking and mountain biking possibilities are endless. About six miles away you will find the roughly 18 mile long Bearskin rail to trail area which is made of crushed stone and is an excellent place to walk or bike and enjoy nature. Relax at night with a nice fire in our firepit.

You can swim right in front of the cabin, where there is a sandy shore. You also have the option to use a large sandy beach area , which is shared with two small cabins and another home belonging to our family. The lake bottom there is firm and has a gentle slope. There are two swim rafts, one in close to shore for the little kids and one in deeper water for the swimmers.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This was our 9th year at Fawn Lake. Except for one day of rain, we had beautiful weather. Fishing was incredible at Lumen. Bluegill were some of the largest we have ever seen.

Look forward to next year!

Northwoods hideway with comforts of home

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a week at Fawn Lake Hideaway, and we couldn't believe how quickly the time flew by. The three bedroom, two bathroom cabin is spacious yet cozy. Two screened porches made it possible to enjoy the beauty of the northwoods even on drippy days. Also helping in that regard was the lower level entertainment center. A large-screen TV, Direct TV and DVD/VCR player easily filled those idle moments.

But it was the outdoors that make the cabin special. Surrounded by woods, the cabin looks out over Fawn Lake from a gorgeous vantage point. Walking down to the lake revealed two small docks and a fleet of kayaks and a row boat. The walk down might be a little too steep for young children and the elderly, but it is a beautiful setting even if you don't get your toes wet.

A short walk down the private drive leads to Lumen Lake, which has the feel of a wilderness lake. We enjoyed using the pedal boat on that quiet lake, but kayaks are also available.

Visits to either lake were regularly highlighted by appearances by bald eagles. By the time we went, the loons were gone for the season, but they too would be a fantastic wild touch.

Inside the cabin, there was plenty of comfy furniture, a gorgeous gas fireplace, dishwasher and full laundry. This was anything but roughing it.

Steve the manager was incredibly helpful, but always cautious about not being obtrusive.

There were now guest staying at the resort when we were there, so we had both lakes to ourselves. We can't recommend the experience highly enough.

A Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Fawn Lake Hideaway is perfectly named, hidden among the trees in a very quiet, peaceful setting. It is surrounded by woods with no one else in sight. The lake was mirror-calm during our stay and we were able to get amazing photographs. Kayaking the lake was so relaxing and peaceful, the only sound was us and nature. There are miles of State Forest next to the property, with old logging roads that were wonderful for hiking.

There is another lake a short walk away, and it's very beautiful and quiet as well. We appreciated having a paddleboat and kayaks available for us to use on that lake also.

The cabin is nicely kept, roomy, and the beds very comfortable. It had everything we needed, and the kitchen was well stocked with cooking pots and utensils. They do ask that you do a couple of tasks before leaving (wash towels and sheets, sweep up what you dropped/tracked in). Outdoors, we loved the spacious deck, screened in porch, and 3-season room. There is a fire pit to use, and firewood is provided for a nominal fee. Chairs are provided so you don't need to bring lawn chairs.

We love to hike so in addition to walks around the cabin, we hiked the nearby Bearskin rail to trail paths, the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest (30 min. away), and Copper Falls State Park (1 hr 45 min. away).

We loved Fawn Lake Hideaway, and would love to return. Steve, the property manager, was great to work with and answered any questions we had quickly and we couldn't have asked for a better experience.

A Wonderful Place

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in this wonderful cabin on Fawn Lake 5 times & its been a great experience everytime. The cabin itself is very nice & roomy, with lots of areas that you can be alone or all gather together. The pictures on this website of the cabin & area are very accurate. And the cabin is well kept & clean. The area & lake is so peaceful, with lots of wildlife, Loons & Bald Eagles being one of our many favorites. We love Kayaking on the lakes, trying to get a closer look at the Loons. We spent the majority of the time at the cabin, but there is the the town of Minocqua & Woodruff to visit close by with restaurants, putt-putt golf, go-karts, horseback riding, shopping, movie theater, lumbar jack show, Wildwood Zoo, & free Water Ski Show at Lake Minocqua on certain days. You can also take a day trip to Madeline Island / The Apostle Islands just a couple hours away. The Owner (Andrea) & Manager (Steve) are always very helpful, they call to check in on you when you arrive & if you have any issues they respond quickly..

Fawn Lake is one of our most favorite places to vacation, its like our home away from home when we are there. Looking forward to our next visit..

Beautiful house, great vacation

  • 5 of 5

This house has absolutely everything one may want when going to Northern Wisconsin on vacation - very private location, yet pretty close to small towns; very quiet - you can hear your own steps, the silence interrupted only by loons; the house sits right on a great no wake lake - you can watch the trees, the stars and the clouds reflections in the lake; there is a sandy beach 10 min walk; there are 2 more lakes about 100 yards away - both have boats and gorgeous scenery; great hiking right outside your doors and fantastic fishing! Thank you, Steve, our wonderful host for making our vacation absolutely perfect. The house has absolutely everything one may need to feel at home. We hope to come back next year.

Love it!

  • 5 of 5

We have been staying at Fawn Lake Hideaway for nine years and are planning our 10th. trip for this year. We live in California and have family in Wisconsin and it is a perfect place for a family get together. We feel like it our home away from home and thoroughly appreciate the owners and their caring nature. Thanks Steve and Andrea.

Misleading description, but beautiful quiet lake

  • 3 of 5

Upon arrival we felt that the description of this cabin was a bit misleading. It says you can swim right in front of the cabin. In fact you have to walk down a level and then down 40 stairs to get to the water, which is weedy, rocky and not a good area for swimming at all. The sand beach across the lake was beautiful and perfect for swimming, and the area around the cabin is great with lots to see and do. Loved listening to the loons and frogs every night, and seeing all the wildlife. Also in the description I just noticed that it says there is a lake 100 yards away that we could use. Where was that? It would have been nice if there was information at the cabin about this lake access; we would have liked to have checked it out and fished on it. I certainly didn't notice one "100 yards" away. Also checking out at 9am on Saturday was difficult, especially since we were expected to start two loads of laundry, sweep, pack up and completely leave by then. And when we checked in it wasn't immaculate, with cobwebs and dust in corners. Also it's really not ideal for really small kids as the stairs are steep inside and out and the beach is too far of a walk for them. I got a lot of exercise carrying my 2-year-old around, up, and down.. The cabin itself was great and we enjoyed our vacation. We just felt a bit mislead by the description and felt we could have been treated better.

Owner's Response: Over our 10 years of operation this was our 1st mixed review and we take it seriously. We appreciate the time this lady took to express some concerns as that is how we improve. We prominently display the name and phone number of our resident manager who can answer questions and provide information and would hope our guests would use it to make their stay with us perfect. Most of our guests (we have annually about 60% repeat visits) praise the cleanliness but we will make sure those standards are consistently met. The second lake is indeed there, less than 100 yards from the cabin and we can provide an aerial photo to orient our guests but it is very easy to find. The steps to the lake are a fact caused by the topography and we usually will caution guests with young kids or mobility problems that they could pose a challenge. It is true that the swimming on front of the house is not nearly as good as at the sand beach and we are working on that but it is a slow process compounded by recent lake level flucuations. We do ask that one load of sheets be started but we have a cleaning crew that does the rest. We have a guest log and try to learn from each comment. We offer privacy and recreation in a family friendly environment and we do our best to make our guests stay exceed their expectations. We don't understand the comment 'could have been treated better' when we weren't given the chance to help and regret that this family didn't have the experience they could have. For us the 3 stars out of 5 rating is not up to our own standards.
