'Koolinda' is named after a famous motor vessel, SS Koolinda. Built for coastal trade with all the modern ship trimmings of the day, she led a charmed life and was recognised as the queen of motor vessels during the 1930s halcyon years of State Shipping. She was considered a vital lifeline between Fremantle and Darwin.
