*winter special* stay for 3 nights pay for 2 May-August About the Space: Alkira is an original beach shack which overlooks the D’Entrecasteaux Channel on Southern Bruny Island. Many families have spent time holidaying here over the years, and you will be filled with that family shack nostalgia as soon as you step through the front door. It is a small, simple dwelling filled with natural light and all that you’ll need for your stay. Alkira has recently been renovated with a new shower, wood heater and lick of paint, but is still a “shack” at heart.
It is an idyllic haven for couples, families, friends or solo travellers. It offers two bedrooms and a bunk room, a bright coastal bathroom with rain shower, a cosy sun-drenched lounge room, and a fully equipped kitchen and large deck out the front with a barbecue. With incredible views to wake up to and enjoy on the front deck, Alkira promises to create some cherished memories.
The beach is located just out the front of the property, with steps leading down off the main road. It’s perfect for small children at low tide to hunt for crabs, and to wade through ankle deep water if you don’t want to change into your cossie. It’s not unheard of to have this little cove all to yourself.
The space Bedrooms: Get a good night’s sleep in one of our two queen bedrooms, each adorned with quality bed linen. There is also a bunk bed in the room of the second bedroom. If you are fortunate, you might also spot an Aurora. We also get furry visitors such a wallabies on the lawns surrounding the shack (but please don’t feed them 😊). Other things to note Alkira is located a short walk to the Bruny Island Winery, 10-minute drive to Hotel Bruny and 40 minutes from the ferry terminal.

What can I say the place was so retro and the views and the position of the place was divine’. Everything we needed was there. Bed’s fantastic.such a quiet place to unwind . I can’t say enough about this very peaceful vibe that we had while we were there.thank from the Dixon’s
We loved our stay at Alkira shack , the interior and was so lovely and felt very homely. We loved sitting on the deck and seeing all the pademelons and the the little fairy wren birds. Beds were comfy and the shower was great , our kids also loved the games and kitchen had everything we needed.
The property felt so homely. Cosy, comfortable and quiet. Although we had many visitors in the form of wildlife. An abundance of beautiful birds and numerous pademelons just added to atmosphere and were a highlight. The attention to detail in the property was just gorgeous. Would definitely stay again.
Beautiful views and very peaceful, lots of wild life and a relaxing place to stay after a long day in front of the of the fire! Courtney was very happy to help out with questions and advise! Lovely little beach shack...would recommend!
We enjoyed our stay. A beautiful view and lovely spot. Loved the wallaby's on the front lawn. We were warm, the wood fire was great. Not over priced for what it is. Thanks.
The cutest, funky, fun, cosy amd welcoming shack. We loved staying here and cant wait to come back again. This little house embraced you as soon as you pulled into the drive way and spoilt you with everything and more ya need on holidays.
Great place to stay. A very homely feel. The wood supplied for the fire place was really appreciated as the weather for us was unfortunately horrible for December. It is on tank water so good idea to bring drinking water with you and buying some bread from the “Bread Fridge “ is a must.
Loved our stay. The shack has all that’s needed for a relaxing stay. It is nicely nested in a quiet bay with a large deck facing the ocean. No luxury but very comfortable and homely. Highly recommended.

About the host
Hosted by Courtney Dunbabin
Hi there! My name is Courtney and I live on the little island of Tasmania :) I have been an Airbnb host for over ten years and absolutely love it. I work as a speech and language pathologist and specialise in language and literacy disorders. However, Airbnb has become my second job which I really enjoy and have expanded with a lovely holiday house on Bruny Island. When I'm not down at Bruny or exploring new places around Tasmania, I will scope out gigs and music festivals to go to - and often spend ridiculous amounts of money getting there! I also used to live in London and love travelling - which is how I was first introduced to Airbnb. I really enjoy meeting new people and showing them the best parts of our little island. I look forward to hearing from you and having you stay at my homely shack in Bruny Island!
