About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bath Newly Remodeled Cottage With An Amazing View! Sleeps 1-4

Imagine driving to a secret hide-away nestled in a deep canyon with a beautiful river valley - a magical land that borders the west side of majestic Zion National Park. Our enchanting Cottage is situated on the famous 750 acre Sunset Canyon Ranch conveniently located for adventures in Zion National Park, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Bryce Canyon, Snow Canyon and even Las Vegas. After a day of exploring our beautiful country with the hustle and bustle of other tourists, you can look forward to returning to the comfort of your private Shangri-la where you can take a leisurely walk, go for a swim in the pool, hike to a secret waterfall, play a round of tennis, or have a barbeque in the spacious outdoor pool area.

The west side of Zion National Park, only minutes away by car, is one of the best kept secrets and is home to some of Zion's most famous hikes, including the Subway, West Rim, and Hop Valley. Here you can also investigate ancient caves with Indian Petroglyphs. Yet the Park's main entrance in Springdale is only 18 minutes away where shuttles will take you to the many other hikes the Park has to offer, like Angel's Landing, Weeping Rock, Sinewava, and Emerald Pools. Springdale offers some terrific shopping and dining as well.

For many years we've opened our doors to travelers from all over the world and the telling tale is this: they come back again and again and refer us to their friends and family. Accommodations fill up quickly, so booking early in the season is suggested.

About Vickie Moyle

We purchased this working ranch in 1993 after retiring from a very busy life in the big city. We never dreamed it would bring us such peace, joy, and wonderful associations with people from all over the world who have chosen to stay with us. We consider ourselves blessed to wake up in Zions every day!

Vickie Moyle purchased this cottage in 1992

Why Vickie Moyle chose Utah

There is nothing like the Sunset Canyon Ranch in the whole of Zions. To be able to spend the day out in the various parks (Zions, Bryce, north rim of the Grand Canyon, Snow Canyon) and the myriad other tourist activities is great fun --- but to return to the exclusivity, privacy, beauty and comfort of one of the most remarkable settings after the bustling crowds is heaven itself! Our clients never fail to tell us how lucky they felt to have found our property to rent!

What makes this cottage unique

The Cottage is cozy and beautiful inside (remodeled interior-2015) However, the most unique benefit of coming to the Cottage is that it is nestled in the heart of the Sunset Canyon Ranch, which is a beautiful river valley surrounded by sandstone and lava rock cliffs with a stunning view of Cougar Mountain. The ranch offers many amenities such as hiking, biking, walking, swimming (in either the pool or the river), fishing, peace and privacy. It is away from all the hustle and bustle of tourism in the park. We also have stables for horses if you happen to be a horseback riding group coming to this area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

FIVE-STAR: We stayed at the Ranch with our 9 and 10 year-old children. This home was the first stop on our journey throughout the states, ending in San Diego. It was the place we said we wished could follow us at every stop on our trip. It's an amazing place to explore; with horses to feed and watach; a pond/lagoon to paddle in and fish; a private pool area that's serene and welcoming. Vickie, Heinz, and Hank are great people - warm, welcoming and friendly. The two bedroom home was wicked! It was like being at home - all of the little details are taken care of. This home is the place to stay. We are returning and bringing more people with us. THank you, Vickie.

Beautiful location and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We would highly recommend the Cottage. The Ranch is located in a beautiful and serene canyon, with terrific access to Springdale and Zion National Park, as well as a day trip to Bryce National Park and Red Canyon. . The cottage is well appointed, very well maintained, with comfortable beds, and a well-equipped kitchen.

Easy access to Springdale afforded us the opportunity to experience wonderful restaurants, such as The Spotted Dog and Switchback Steak House.

We are looking forward to another opportunity to visit again and would recommend the Cottage at Sunset Canyon Ranch to our friends and family!

Vickie and Hank Moyle are very gracious and personable hosts.

A Little Slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage while visiting Zion. From the moment we saw the Ranch sign and started driving down the driveway, we knew we had found a most special place! The ranch is a serene oasis and the cottage was perfect for our family of 3. Stocked with everything you would need - just bring your own food. The pictures really don't do it justice. It was so great to be able to come back after a hard day hiking and the hustle and bustle of the park and just relax on the beautiful patio, take a dip in the pool, hike to the secret waterfall, play with the resident dogs Maddie and Bear, and chat with Vickie and Hank. They are lovely people and take pride in their ranch and it shows. We even enjoyed picking the sweetest blackberries off the bushes surrounding the cottage. If you are truly looking for a respite to refuel and regenerate, this is the place. I wouldn't hesitate recommending and I hope we are able to come back soon. Zion National Park is a magical place and this is, too!

BEAUTIFUL COTTAGE IN A PERFECT SETTING!

  • 5 of 5

The drive into the property had us knowing this was going to be a special place. The cattle grazing down in the valley, horses greeting us next to the fence, ducks swimming in the pond, wild turkey strolling in front of the cottage; all made our time at the cottage delightfully memorable.

Vickie and Henry greeted us with friendly smiles, told us a little about the history of the ranch and then took us on a tour to our cottage. Our cottage was the perfect size for a family of 4 and was not small or crowded at all. The linens were luxurious and the mattress was super comfy. Vickie has thought of everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay!

You must spend time outside the cottage to just sit and forget about work and your cares of the world. Enjoy the magnificent cliffs, the flowers that are so beautiful, the grass so plush and green, the alto tones of the wind chime, and the variety of birds attracted by the wild berries. It is all so lovely.

There are boats to paddle in the pond and fishing poles for the kiddos to catch and release. The swimming pool was pristine and the grill at the pavilion worked great for grilling our steaks for dinner. If you don't want to cook your meals, it is a short drive into town. The Stage Coach Grill was a favorite for our family.

The Ranch's location is central to several of the National Parks and the drives and hikes are fantastic.

Thank you Vickie and Henry, and we can't wait to return to this special place.

We had a wonderful time in the cottage! It was a great getaway and a special place in Southern Utah.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I love Zion Canyon and have visited a few times. This was by far our best experience and the cottage made all the difference! Situated not far from the main entrance of Zion, we felt far enough away and secluded where we could get out of the hustle and bustle of the tourist feel.

Vickie's cottage rules are well worth following to keep the cottage in pristine condition for each guest's stay. We loved being able to venture around the ranch, jump in the pool, and enjoy the Zion hike only available to the guests staying at the Ranch. During our three day stay we were able to grocery shopping so we could use the kitchen to cook, and we relaxed under the stars on the patio in the evening.

We will be back here again to enjoy the rest of Zion in the future! Thank you Vickie for your hospitality!

Sunset Canyon was the perfect place to stay on a Zion, Bryce, and North Rim vacation. We loved this place and Vickie and Hank. We will be back again. Next time I will spend the whole time at Sunset Canyon Ranch.

There – you’ve made the best decision of your Utah adventure.

Our stay at Sunset Canyon Ranch was the highlight of an amazing week visiting Zion/Bryce. I’m not going to gush over all the details, because everything about our wonderful hosts and their fabulous cottage was tremendous.

It’s really more of a house, though. With a full kitchen (including exotic spices and a flour sifter), laundry in near-silent machines and a big screen TV to create inch envy amongst the macho. The master bedroom is huge (with a king bed in luxury linens) and the living room allows even the tallest to stretch out fully after a day on the trails. Equally important the patio seats eight, because you really won’t want to spend too much time inside: the setting is special.

The Ranch is down in a canyon, right beside the river. It is an oasis of lush growth, horse pastures and fruit trees – surrounded by scrub desert in all directions. Just sitting outside we saw humming birds, insect-hunting bats and a gorgeous red fox. We couldn’t have felt more privileged, more lucky to be there.

Location is ideal – say 30 mins from the Park’s Main entrance (I don’t think people staying in Sprindale at LaQuinta can get there any faster riding the shuttle bus.) Quite honestly, your time at The Cottage will have you reconsidering entering Zion through the main gates – which can seem more akin to a day at DisneyLand than a day in nature. So right out the driveway (instead of left) you are in the Park in 2 minutes – not the main valley, but you’re not on a paved hiking path either. Stop and climb Lamb’s Knoll or, wow – go 20 minutes up the road and it is breathtaking. Should you return around sunset, well, get out the tissues. As Vickie said “The views are enough to make you cry.” It is spiritual and, yes, I did tear up.

We cooked-in every night, sometimes on the BBQ. Wore fleece to eat breakfast outdoors in the cool dawn light (even though the Park got up to 95’ by afternoon) and packed lunches for the trail. The Cottage allowed us so much freedom, afforded us so much pleasure that we’re talking of going back just to stay there.

Finally, if you are fortunate enough to get a few minutes with Hank – ask him about true success in life and the water in Lake Geneva. His age may be politely unmentionable, but over a life filled with curiosity and humor he has accumulated more wisdom and great tales than most of us will ever gather.

And – oh, yeah. Book The Cottage Now.
