Maple Leaf Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying at Maple Leaf Cabin. The view from the screened in porch is the best on the lake and the cabin has everything you need for your stay. Fishing off the dock or Miss Maple was great! Our little dog loved cruising the lake on Miss Maple. Thank you, Shawn, for another relaxing and enjoyable trip!

Loved our weekend at the Maple Leaf Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

The Maple Leaf Cabin was everything we hoped for and more! The Cabin is so charming and the view from the screened in porch cannot be beat. We enjoyed hiking in the parks nearby with our dog even though we had a rainy fall weekend. Coming back to this cozy cabin and enjoying the fire pit overlooking the lake was just the escape we needed. Thank you for hosting us!!

Very cozy, quaint, relaxing. Beautiful view, lots of amenities available. We cook meals there. Renting the pontoon was good, was fun riding around the lake. Hope to return!

Charming cottage on Maple Lake

  • 5 of 5

Shawn's cottage is just darling, carrying a maple leaf theme through out the home. All amenities, kitchen needs, fire pit w available wood, enjoyable screened in porch,Weber grill, and of course the lake, are there for your use. It is a pet friendly space for you dog lovers too! We enjoyed our stay so much, we are going back in August, and will rent the pontoon boat right at the dock for our lake excursions. Owner very nice and answers requests quickly.

Beautiful and many great amenities, but not great fishing

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was small, but plenty of space for my dad, our dog Halo and I. The bed was comfortable, but the only other place to sleep indoors was an extremely uncomfortable sofa-bed. We weren't really expecting it to be super comfortable, but all you could feel were the springs. The area around the cabin was also super cute, and everyone was very friendly, including the very helpful neighbors. We loved the outdoor screened-in patio, it was very nice to sit out there and enjoy a meal while looking out at the lake. There were a ton of amenities - everything we could have needed was provided for us tenfold. Unfortunately, we went on this trip mainly as a getaway, with a huge priority being fishing - which wasn't good. We were out there constantly, early in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening - after about 3 days we had only caught 1 fish. We caught a couple more the next morning luckily, but I would not go here again with my objective being fishing. I don't recommend it to anyone who wants to go fishing and catch a decent amount of fish. However, I would recommend it as a small, relaxing getaway.

In short, positives: adorable cabin and surrounding area, beautiful view of the lake, tons of amenities

negatives: sofa-bed terribly uncomfortable, fishing was pretty bad

I'd like to thank Shawn for letting us stay here, we did have a nice time despite our fishing not going so well!

Owner's Response: Over the years many guests have commented in the guest book--both on line and in the cabin--that they have enjoyed the fishing and caught a lot of fish. Most throw them back but some guests have even eaten them for supper. All the locals consider Maple Lake a good fishing lake so maybe the fish just weren't biting for Jaynee...

My husband and I brought our grand 4 year old daughter ( her first fishing trip!) After my husband caught the first two fish, our grand daughter was sure he was cheating somehow. We absolutely loved the cabin property. The cabin was cozy and very clean. Sitting on the screened porch, looking out over the lake was very peaceful. We made a few trips around the lake in the pontoon boat , what a beautiful lake! We will definitely be back to this cabin in the future. Thank you for sharing your cabin!

About The Owner

We love getting away and enjoying time at the cabin. We like to relax on the porch, sip wine while taking Miss Maple on a spin around the lake, then throw some steaks on the grill. When we're not antiquing or gardening, we play with our chocolate lab Riptide--he loves to swim and fetch toys from the lake. Come visit the cabin--you and your dog will love it too!

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2005

Why The Owner chose Paw Paw

We fell in love with the view of the lake--within five minutes of arriving we decided to buy it. We live in Chicago and can leave the City after work on Friday and still arrive in time to open a bottle of wine and fire up the grill--it's a great antidote to city life.

What makes this cabin unique

We love to relax at Maple Leaf Cabin, whether reading on the screened porch, drinking coffee overlooking the lake or cocktails on the pontoon boat, Miss Maple, it's always a great getaway. The cabin is fully outfitted and Paw Paw has everything we need so it's not necessary to bring alot of stuff--just hop in the car and go. We love visiting the farmstands and farmers' markets for local produce but if we don't feel like cooking there are many good restaurants, from casual to fine dining, where we can grab a great country breakfast or enjoy a relaxing dinner right on the water. And there are always new wines to taste at the wineries--just a few short blocks away!
