About the property

4 Bedrooms, 4.5 Baths, Sleeps 8

Imagine a warm, welcoming place where families and friends can feel a sense of peace, and share in the wonderment of seeing the blue Pacific Ocean stretch out, uninterrupted, from South to West to North. The pictures don't lie: you have probably never been in a private home with views like these, and they are yours to enjoy from the pool, the spa, the den, both dining areas, the bedrooms, the lanais… you get the idea. Lots of glass here: it's floor to ceiling in most of the house. Connoisseurs of eye candy, fanatics for light and space, welcome! You're home.

The property is surrounded by gorgeous tropical vegetation (see photos), lovingly tended since 1992 by the one and only Dwayne Richmond, landscaper extraordinaire. There aren't many better ways to start a day than having your coffee (or breakfast - see photos) on one of the garden benches, surrounded by Dwayne's beautiful plants and flowers. (The vegetation isn't just pleasing to the eye, but also provides privacy, and a lot of it.) If it's raining, or if you just want a different perspective, sip your java while taking in the amazing treehouse view from the upstairs lanais - it's awesome.

To minimize GMH's carbon footprint, most of our electricity comes from the PV panels on the roof; power is stored in an Enphase battery array- the first in the state of Hawaii.

All four bedrooms are en suite- each has their own private bathroom. Revel in the privacy, but don't worry about feeling too isolated; the central, common areas of the house, with their seamless, simultaneous feeling of connection, integration and open space make you understand that this is a home, waiting to be lived in. The spacious kitchen and dining areas provide comfortable, light-filled places to eat indoors or out; all give expansive views of the Pacific. The main dining room has a handmade David Reisland table (see photos) which comfortably seats ten in a space which admits light, breeze and view to give you the feeling that you are one with the ocean and the sky.

There is Timborana hardwood, marble and porcelain on the floors. All are gorgeous: once again, the pictures don't lie.

The pool (70 feet long) and spa both face the ocean: same incredible view you have from the inside, only now there's sky over your head. Want to swim in the ocean? Drive ten minutes to White Sands (La 'aloa) Beach. Want to snorkel and see gorgeous fish and sea turtles? Drive seven minutes to Kahalu'u Beach.

Keauhou Shopping Center, with its restaurants, shops, movie theaters, supermarket, drug store, and urgent care clinic is three minutes away. Craving more shops, restaurants, beaches, or resorts? Fifteen minutes to Kailua Village. Willing to drive a little longer? Visit Volcanoes National Park and the South Coast to witness our incredible planet's fiery heart. Want to experience some of the best sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing in the world? Go to the top of Mauna Kea. Let's face it… this place is awesome and magical.

Now that you're back home, you're tired and no doubt want to rest up for the next day's activities. Seems a bit on the warm and humid side though (there are many ceiling fans, but they're not quite up to the task), and you've always had some trouble sleeping in those conditions. Don't sweat it- just turn on the brand new air conditioning. Each bedroom is a separate, independently controlled zone, as are the common areas. Now that you've stopped sweating, want to watch HBO (or anything else) as you pass out? Sit in one of the leather recliners in the den and become a zombie in front of the 70” high def t.v. Or, if you want to watch from the comfort of your own bed, no problem- there's a new high def t.v. in every bedroom too. Other features include free landline calls to anywhere in the U.S. and Canada, and new washer and dryer.

This is a home worthy of its magnificent surroundings, where memories to last a lifetime are created.

This is a No Smoking, No Pets Property. 7 Night Minimum, 10 during Ironman and Christmas. Hawaii Tax ID: W 050-312-0896-01. Amazing Property That Did Not Disappoint!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you to the home owner who opened up this fantastic home for us to enjoy! This house is amazing. It's so spacious and gorgeous that we didn't want to leave. It's well appointed and very well taken care of. The artwork is interesting and tasteful, wood floors are beautiful and we were thankful for the air conditioners. The pool and the hot tub were so wonderful we never even bothered to head to the beach. Don't pack a lot because you won't want to leave the house and the washer and dryer are super handy!

The listing was accurate and the house was clean and well-maintained. Kona Coast Vacations was helpful the couple of times I called them to ask questions. We had no issues at all with this home and will definitely stay here again!

We usually stay at the Fairmont Orchid so we aren't very familiar with this part of the island, but try Lava Java in Kailua-Kona. We enjoyed dining there a couple of times!

Incredible stay!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful house-like one featured in a travel magazine! It was so nice we weren’t especially motivated to leave! The views are incredible and the sunsets are breathtaking. The pool and hot tub are awesome—super clean and inviting! Spacious bedrooms with separate zones for a/c and fans all over (nice if someone wants the breeze but others want a/c). The house had everything we could need for a comfortable stay (even beach mats and sand toys!) Close to the shopping center, beaches, Alii drive restaurants/shopping.

Outstanding from Beginning to End

  • 5 of 5

This property’s spectacular views, unique, vibrant landscaping and clean, spacious rooms provided the perfect setting for a wonderful family vacation.

Relaxing in the hot tub and using the outdoor shower were highlights and the location was perfect for watching the beautiful Hawaii sunsets. It was truly outstanding in every way.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it

  • 5 of 5

We investigated other vacation residences, but eventually decided to stick with GMH, and we’re glad we did. As before, the house and grounds were impeccable, and the view was just as we remembered it: magnificent. (It must be quite a chore to clean all that glass!) We took some long trips to Volcanoes National Park, Hilo, and Kohala on this vacation, and the house, with its pool, spa, and air conditioning, was always a wonderful place to return to after being on the road all day. Missed out on the sunset from Mauna Kea because of bad weather; oh well, something to look forward to next year. See you in 2019, GMH!

Back for Round Two

  • 5 of 5

We didn't expect this encore visit to surpass last year's memorable stay, but it did! Spent more hours in the pool and spa this time, and were happy we did. (Nothing like watching the sun set from the spa, with a glass of champagne in hand!) Discovered the garden, where the owner/management was wise enough to add a bench and tables. Also learned about the pleasures of showering outdoors- didn't even know that was an option last year.

Spent a little more time in Kailua town on this trip. Must have tried every fish sandwich in Kona; guess what: they're all good! Our favorite place for breakfast was Lava Java; favorite lunch spot was Huggo's On the Rocks. Speaking of rocks... check out Kona Rocks and Minerals on Ali'i Drive if you're into that sort of thing.

There is no question that we've found the right place in GMH. It was such a blast to open that door again, and be greeted by that view. The place just puts a smile on your face. We now think of it as our second home on the Big Island, and have no interest in staying anywhere else. See you next year, GMH!
