Our family of 5 adults stayed as part of a special birthday celebration during the lovely weather in the middle of June.
After carefully manoeuvring around several very narrow streets we stopped for a few minutes outside the house, dropped our luggage off and found paid parking nearby. We did have to feed the meter every day until 6pm and on the Friday needed to move for the market next day. We were directed by the agent to free parking a little further away and it was no problem carrying our bags there when leaving.
The house itself is generously proportioned, artistically decorated and very well set up for a family group. The two upper floors each have two spacious bedrooms and a bathroom. Our daughter, who was the birthday girl claimed the pretty room with balcony overlooking the garden. Each room had its own character - all beds were very comfortable with lovely linens and the bathrooms (one with vintage tub, one with shower) contained lots of towels and organic soaps etc.
The kitchen dining area on the ground floor was a great place to congregate out of the hot sun and we cooked a couple of simple meals, though never did figure out the gas oven. Beautiful glasses, serving platters, pots and vases, and interesting artwork made us feel right at home and we loved living like locals, shopping at the markets and also the well stocked supermarkets.
Evenings in the garden (with an incense stick to repel mosquitoes, who also love the lush greenery) we enjoyed local wines especially the delicious pale rose, with a bowl of locally grown olives, while deciding which of the dozens of nearby eateries to walk out to.
Of course Arles is well known by tourists, but venture off the main square a bit and try some of the places the very attentive and knowledgeable owners recommend in their folder. We have our own favourite which is a 'popup' restaurant called Chardon. They have guest chefs who are young people from all over the world and there are always surprises on the menu.
We thoroughly recommend staying in this wonderful home - Merci beaucoup Patrice and Sylvie. We will return!
