Overview

About the property

Craftsman Styled Outside, 2 Porches, Creative Details Inside, & On The River!

The 'River Bungalow' lot is high on the bank with views of the Colorado River & is 2 miles from Downtown Bastrop Shops, Restaurants, SUP/Kayaking/tubing, Riverwalk, & <35 minutes to Airport/Austin. The interior is finished w/ salvaged farmhouse finds, industrial shiny fixtures, a chef kitchen & roomy bath w/ claw foot tub & washer/dryer! 2 big screened-in porches for your bug-free enjoyment or yoga! River Bungalow is for couples, solo adventurers & business travelers wanting Class A ambiance!

The hope is that this is a River Bungalow of rest, fun, adventure, rejuvenation, and/or romance for you! It was over a year for my contractor to remodel with a lot of passion and talent in the details. I salvaged old 1800's farm houses and mixed it with modern design. There is big style in the small footprint! It is super comfy with spray foam insulation everywhere you can't see, and central heat/air. After the gutters went up, it was 'time to put it up for a short term rental', so everyone could enjoy it. So, 'ENJOY'!

The house and lot are yours to use and roam during your stay. The lot backs up to a steep slope to the river. Access to the river on this lot is currently prohibited until passage is a lot safer. Bring the kayaks, however, as there is Fisherman's Park boat ramp less than 2 miles away. The garage is the owner's personal storage space. There is outside parking available for up to 2 cars. With 4 people staying,

I also just want to be clear that some may find the bathroom arrangement a little less private than desired. Though off of the Master Bedroom, the bathroom doesn't have a separate door into the main house or into the 2nd bedroom. I just wanted you to be clear on that in case you change your mind. Otherwise, it is so totally worth staying there!!!

The outside fencing and landscaping is still 'under construction' but should be further along in a month. We should have some of the fence (or a temporary screen) up between the (messy) neighbor, but the river access may take awhile. The hill is very steep and we are discouraging use until we have proper, safe, steps to the bottom. The view from the top is nice, though.

There is also a train that ambles by every so often. I like it, but it may rumble a bit too loud for some. There is a crossing about 1/3 of a mile away, so you will possibly hear a horn. I just want to let you know, in case that isn't for you. Otherwise, it is fun to watch it go by, when you aren't watching the river roll.

I'll be sending some driving directions etc to you, if you want to move forward. Please let me know if you have any special needs or requirements. I'll be happy to try to help you out. There is so much to do in the Bastrop area, and I'm sure you'll have a blast, and be comfortable at River Bungalow. It is a cool place. :-)

I live 3 doors down from River Bungalow. If you need anything, all you need to do is text or call me. Even if it is a 'remote control' issue, I'll try to help! lol!

We are river people! Rather eclectic neighborhood, but we share the love of the river. :-)

About Susan Nogues

I love Bastrop and the Colorado River! Everyday, I am blessed that I get to look out at it and see it change, more frequently than you'd think. It is always moving and ever in transition. Being out on it is the only thing better!

I am a wine snob, I think. LOL I like a lot of wines and am easily amused by them. I will generally trend towards dry, earthy, non-fruit forward reds. You'll be able to tell that I like wine, staying as a guest at River Bungalow.

I'm a Real Estate Broker, so my world is very much about dirt. I love it and helping my people accomplish their current realty goals.

I'm mostly an action/adventure movie kind of girl, but I do like a good story and a romance :-). Schulman 8 Lost Pines is a great theatre to see a picture show.

There are lots of music venue opportunities in the Bastrop area. I tend to like some blues and guitar pickin'.

Food! I love most food types. If you have a hankering, let me know, as I have probably eaten everywhere in Bastrop. Yes, Domino's Pizza delivers to River Bungalow!

Susan Nogues purchased this house in 2015

Why Susan Nogues chose Bastrop

The hope is that this is a River Bungalow of rest, fun, adventure, rejuvenation, and/or romance for you! It was over a year for my contractor to remodel with a lot of passion and talent in the details.

We are river people! Rather eclectic neighborhood, but we share the love of the river.

Back towards town, enjoy the houses and streets of old Bastrop. The holidays are exceptionally festive times to visit. Be sure to go to the Museum and Fine Arts Guild on South Main Street, close to PIne Street.

Bastrop has a wonderful choice of restaurants downtown. Enjoy the nightlife, live music on the weekends. Get breakfast at Texas' Monthly's highlighted Maxine's on Main Street. Great for breakfast and homestyle cooking!

Shop until your heart's content!

Forgot the wine? Oh no! Cripple Creek and Company can fix you up with a great bottle, or so! They are at 928 Main Street.

HEB grocery store is very close if you want (of course you will) the refrigerator and pantry space.

If you need ANYTHING in grocery on the go - go to Tracey's on the corner of Main and Cedar Street. You probably took Cedar St to get to the River Bungalow.River Bungalow is so very close to downtown. At 2 miles to town, you can walk, drive, bike, or roller skate! Fisherman's Park is right down river and worth the visit when you first get here. Enjoy the riverwalk. There are several exit points back up the hill to the heart of Historic Downtown Bastrop from the riverwalk. Bring a bicycle or rent one from Or, bring a SUP, canoe or kayak, or rent one from my buddies at They also do a tubing trip for real relaxation!

What makes this house unique

I salvaged old 1800's farm houses and mixed it with modern design. There is big style in the small footprint! It is super comfy with spray foam insulation everywhere you cant see, and central heat/air. After the gutters went up, it was 'time to put it up for a short term rental', so everyone could enjoy it. So, 'ENJOY'!

The river is not accessible for safety reasons, but it does have some chairs on the top of the bluff, so you can watch the colors change on the water as the sun sets. Watch the huge soft shell turtles that have made the boulders at the hill bottom. Lots of nature and fun things to see.

Absolutely loved the rustic decor with the classy granite counters!

  • 5 of 5

The unit was wonderfully decorated. Comfortable beds and couches. Both screened patios had fans which help in the summer. Evenings were comfortable. Can’t wait until the overlook deck is finished. It will truly be very relaxing looking out onto the river. Perfect little place! Will definitely return in the future.

Great house on the river, very cozy inside, all the comforts of home. Great kitchen, plenty of room, the washer and dryer are a huge plus. Great location, just a couple miles from old town Bastrop. Very relaxing, the screened in porch is great for grilling and relaxing. I recommend this house.

The most relaxing get away in years!

  • 5 of 5

My mom sister's and I had a wonderful time staying at Susan's river cabin.

The beds were comfy, the entire cabin was clean,we were able to prepare our meals in the large kitchen. The bathroom was spacious it was nice that Susan provided towels and extra shampoo that we needed. I loved my daily showers after a run in her claw foot tub. The pictures were totally accurate on the whole set up. It was so nice to have a washer and dryer available. We loved all the special touches. Mom loved all the antiques. Brought back many memories growing up at our farm. The 2 porches allowed us to have our own space as needed. We hope to return in the near future. I highly recommend Susan's cabin on the river. Thanks for the wonderful vacation! 😊?

NOTICES: There is a train that will rumble by periodically. Some people don't like that. Some do, and like to watch it go by. The bathroom is great! It is connected to the master bedroom. The spare bedroom occupants have to go through the master bedroom to get to it. The river is visible and incredible from the high bank. The river is inaccessible at this time, for your safety, however. It is a steep hill. Enjoy!
