Peaceful Vintage Library Getaway near Town

If you want TV, our place is probably not for you. The lack of TV (although it is clearly in our listing) has gotten us several less than stellar ratings. Even so, we stand firm in our decision to keep TV out of both of our listings.

It is our intention to provide a different kind of experience for our guests, one more like our families experienced growing up in the 80's and before, where attentiveness to one another, quiet, and nature were more commonly appreciated. The only TV in the house is a very small vintage one available to watch the vintage media that is provided.

Our home has been recently updated, while still trying to keep a feel from the not-so-distant past. Enjoy the quiet neighborhood from the covered front porch, sunroom, or large rear deck from where the birds and small wildlife can be experienced.
Experience the vintage books in every room. Large living room with piano and vintage media (CD's, VCR, cassette tapes, and records) and ways to play them. Board games and puzzles in dining room.
Each bedroom furnished with it's own desk for study or reading.
Cookbooks in kitchen, National Geographic Magazines, encyclopedias, and educational books in living room, health, garden, and crafts books in 'Mom's' room, pastoral books in 'Dad's' room, and miscellaneous books in 'Sibling's' room.

Nice old school home

We enjoyed our stay very much. There was so much seating for entertaining and a big table to play card games. We had so much fun and a wonderful Christmas celebration. The location is great too, about ten minutes from anywhere in town.

Great Family Weekend

We came to town for a baby shower. Since we all travel from different directions, renting a house is the best choice. This home was perfect for all of us. The decor is very quaint and gives the home a real family feeling. We all enjoyed learning about the history of the home. Would love to stay there again.

Weekend Stay.

Wonderful Stay in a Beautiful Home!

It was a great venue to stay at. It's only an hour and a half away from Nashville so you can get to the city quickly and enjoy the city during the day and enjoy the small town during the night. The only "downside" was a small leak in the shower head, but honestly, it did not bother me at all. It was a great spot that makes you feel like home!

Peaceful and comfortable retreat during a very busy weekend visit.

Vintage, beautiful and functioning well too!

This is a really charming home in quiet and safe neighborhood. We loved the hard wood floor throughout. We wished if we had more time to enjoy the warm and cozy sun room and the deck with fabulous view. If we are in the area, we will definitely come back!

Good location, very comfortable

The home is located in a nice, quiet neighborhood. It was clean and comfortable. I did leave a list of suggestions for the owner for it to be better for any future guests. Any issues were resolved by the owner. Really liked the library and piano. Had plenty of room. Would stay there again.

Home has a interesting history, filled with many books and mementoes from the family. When we arrived there were two garbage can's outside, overflowing with stinky garbage. (Not sure if trash pickup was missed, but the smell was bad) The lawn was extremely long and overgrown. The listing stated a vintage tv, the tv was a small old tv with no way to connect to live TV, the listing should state "no live TV available", we were under the impression it was a TV with the ability to watch. They have many record albums with a turntable, but the turntable needs a needle. In the kitchen, old rusty pans with loose handles, the coffee pot had old water and a old coffee filter with grounds in in. The toaster did not work, without holding the handle down. There are no bath mats in either bathroom, dangerous getting out of tub, slippery. There was one old blow dryer in one of the bathrooms, there should be blow dyers in each bathroom. Nice beds, overall pretty clean home.

Nice Respite

My husband and I were getting away for a few days respite. As we are caretakers of my Mom and I work at home. It was quite and it was easy access to town. For the most part it was clean and tidy. However I did have to clean the bathtubs. We did miss having a TV as well. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

I was born, the oldest of 3, in Wisconsin, where my parents served as pastor/missionary in the 1960's. We moved to Cookeville in 1976, and after graduation and attending TTU for a couple of years, I moved west to New Mexico and Texas, where I cowboyed for 12 years before marrying and returning to Tennessee. My husband and I have 8 children from 25 to 14 years old and live on a small farm in neighboring Jackson County, Tennessee. We are also licensed general contractors and own and operate Amigos Construction.

My parents bought and lived in this house from 1999 until 2018. My family recently updated it to give it a feel of our family by accessorizing it with hundreds of books and vintage media from my late parents.
The master bedroom has been named the 'Siblings Room,' and has a little flavor from my family, as well as that of my brother's and sister's.
'Dad's Room' reflects his work as a pastor/missionary with pastoral and relational books, as well as some of his family history.
'Mom's Room' reflects her work as a nurse, nursing instructor, gardener, and someone who made nearly everything herself; the room also includes some of her family history.
Each room is furnished with its own desk for reading or study. The living room has a record player, as well as vintage DVD's, CD's, cassette tapes, and video tapes.

We really enjoy spending time at Mom and Dad's place! The back yard butts up to a wooded lot, making it a great place for watching birds and squirrels. Guests have reported seeing deer in the yard. The neighborhood is very peaceful and makes for a relaxing getaway, while only minutes from the hustle and bustle of town or in the other direction, the beauty of Burgess Falls and Center Hill Lake.
