"Everybody says you gotta go to Noto," said Daphne (White Lotus). And we couldn't agree more. That's why we bought our own little piece of paradise a few years back. So, if you or anyone you know dream of strolling down Noto's Corso Emanuele (like Daphne and Harper), soaking up baroque elegance at its finest, we are happy to host you in our cozy one-bedroom apartment in Noto Alto. It's the perfect place to hang your hat after a beach day or sightseeing in the beautiful Val di Noto.
Newly remodeled, our apartment is located in the very desirable neighborhood of Noto Alto (a district that sits on a tiny knoll above the town's historical monuments). Noto Basso, with its baroque palaces, majestic churches and trendy shops and restaurants is a mere 400 meter stroll away. Meandering down one of the intriguing walkways or numerous stairways leading down to the infamous Corso Vittorio Emanuele (Noto's main pedestrian street) is always an enchanting jaunt in itself; as is strolling down the Corso.
Off the beaten track, our quiet, well-kept neighborhood offers everything one needs - a family owned grocery store, vegetable stands, a notable pastry shop with mouth watering cannoli, a few coffee shops, but above all the quaint atmosphere of days gone by. I love to walk the neighborhood at sunset, only to end up in the tiny square in front of the Church of the Crucifix. There, I am sure to find the community's elders resting on the iron benches lining the square, just chitchatting. While children laugh and play before dinner. The tolling of the church bells is what calls everyone home. It's like watching an old Italian movie.
Note: Modica Alta, Scicli and Ragusa are just a stone's throw away, not to mention the numerous beautiful beaches and coves with their crystal clear water only 6 km from Noto's historical center.
Our first floor apartment is located in a private baroque style residence built inthe 1890's. Renovated in 2018, the apartment is located on the first floor (not to be confused with ground floor). A stone staircase (21 steps) leads guests into the apartment. Upon crossing the threshold, a, high vaulted ceiling (glimpses of the past) invites guests into the kitchen/dining area. The fingertip kitchen has everything one needs to prepare authentic Sicilian meals. There is an induction cooktop, fridge, microwave, electric coffee maker and small oven. Apart from the dining table, a comfortable sofa chair (sleeps one), and t.v. also occupy this room.
A large masterbedroom with its high cathedral ceiling is located beyond the dining area. A queen size bed, private balcony and comfortable reading couch complete the room. The bathroom (just down the small hallway) has a walk-in shower and bidet. There is a hair dryer in the bathroom.
Constructed in 1892, an ancient staircase to the left of the bathroom leads to a cozy rooftop terrace. The washing machine is underneath the wet bar at the top of the stairs. The rooftop patio is at the end of the landing. This is the perfect spot to enjoy a chilled glass of wine at sunset.
The apartment is equipped with air conditioning, heating and free 24 hour WIFI. There is also a drying rack, iron and ironing board.
Bed linens and towels are included. A beach umbrella, beach towels and beach chairs are also in the apartment.
Parking in our neighborhood is free of charge and usually abundant. The nearest airports are Catania and Comiso.

About the host
Hosted by Cindy Harding
Having traveled to Noto for holiday and work, both my husband and I fell in love with the area, the beaches, the people, the food and 'il granito di caffe' at Cafe Sicilia. So, after very little pondering, we decided to purchase this little gem. We restored the ground floor apartment for our personal holiday use, while offering travelers our first floor unit. So they, too, can enjoy the beauty, atmosphere and Baroque elegance that we fell in love with some years back.
Why they chose this property
I love the area of Piano Alto (Noto Alto) because it has a 'real' Sicilian village feel to it. It is quiet and well kept. Not to mention the evening breezes from the nearby seashore (6 km away) , which make living higher above the historical center very comfortable.
What makes this property unique
During the hectic summer months along the Corso Vittorio Emanuele and historical center in general, retreating to our quiet neighborhood (whether on foot or by car) up on the knoll is truly a breath of fresh air. Note: street parking near our apartment is always plentiful.
