You and your family can take a leisurely walk to local restaurants and iconic Outer Banks shops, or take a short drive to our famous area attractions such as Wright Brother's Memorial and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse!

We had a good time and will request to stay at 'The Roaring 20s' again next year. Loved the old 'shack' look and the quietness of the place. Contrary to the amenity's listings, the fireplace is not functional.

The property is in a great location but the sand dunes block the view of the ocean. The house is a little outdated and could use a few upgrades. But overall my family had a great time .

A stay to remember!

We absolutely loved our stay at The Roaring 20’s!! This historic house was right up close to the beach and Avalon pier. We were down there the week of 4th of July, so it was easy just to go out the back door and watch the fireworks they set off at the pier. It was pretty clean. There was enough space for all 7 of us plus the dogs. The bathroom that was at the bottom of the stairs is a little tight, especially the shower, but we made due. Everything was in working order. It is just sad that the dune has gotten so close to the house and taken over the entire underneath. I bet it was awesome in its glory days! Thank you for letting us stay! We would DEFINITELY book again!
View once you get over the private beach access that is just out the back door.

The house was built in 1928...!Old charm like grandparents cozy beach house. Wrap around porch. Nice cover and sun decks for all needs. Near pier and restaurants . Could use some shower upgrades but overall we loved it.

Location was amazing! The only downside was the lighting in the home. No lights outside or in the shower or dining area. So nighttime was a struggle. Understanding that the home is almost 100 years old we worked around it. The coffee maker didn’t work and the fridge was broken so that was a grocery loss. They did send coolers and ice the next day, but was too late for the groceries we had already purchased. Overall we enjoyed ourselves.

Filthy with mouse droppings everywhere

Location was ideal. For what the run-down house lacked in amenities, the perfect location made up for it. Furniture was gross, full of bugs, smelled bad, stained carpet, disgusting kitchen with cabinets full of mouse droppings. Windows don't open, and if you have ANY mobility issues, you're not getting down to the beach. There are no steps, no ramp and no handrail down the STEEP dune in front of the house. Walls were super thin and stairs are very dangerous.

Beds are very comfortable. The ceiling fans need to be updated as this house has no central AC. I am pretty certain they must use window AC in summer but working ceiling fans would help.

Super Short Walk To Ocean

Understandably great for protection, but not for airflow or views. It was an super hot summer week so a bit uncomfortable with window air conditioners. Good fit for the lower number of people that we had. Sufficient kitchenware, but cramped storage. Surprisingly good condition for its age. All in all well worth the cost. Thank you.

Loved the cozy home with its beachy touches and especially loved being able to walk right out on the beach. We had a little storm damage during our visit and the property management group made it super easy to report and then keep on with our vacation. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a comfortable beach rental with all the conveniences you hadn't realized you'd want!

Rustic cottage in its terminal years

The dune has enveloped the cottage and will soon bring it down. Lotsa delayed maintenance. Not a rental for the fastidious or obsessive neat freak. Recommended.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had stayed at this house many times since 2002 and it had a wonderful deck that you could lounge on and watch the water for dolphins. That is sadly no longer the case. Apparently beach nourishment has almost completely overtaken the lovely view we always loved. Don't think we would rent it again, especially since it has not been kept up either and was in need of serious repairs. the bottom flooring under the main bedroom was literally blowing because it is no longer attached to the house.

Nice little cottage on the beach

AC and appliances worked fine. Place is a bit smaller than the pictures make it look. Beach access is a bit hampered by the dunes being right up against the deck, but dimpling stepping over the deck railing puts you on the dunes. Nice big beach canopy and mat available as well as chairs and boogie boards.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This place is oceanfront and pet friendly plus it’s right in the heart of Kill devil hills so it’s perfect for our family. I was not pleased with the cleanliness upon arrival as there were coffee stains on the counter tops and a giant dead bug in the windowsill. The main issue with this place is the pricing. It cost almost $5,000 this year and next it’s over $7,000! I mean this place is a typical beach house but it needs a lot of TLC if it’s going to hold up so I can’t see paying the astronomical prices!

Quaint but needs some TLC

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house is in a great location and quaint inside. The outside is in rough shape. It looks quite beat up. The porch is wonderful and spacious. The kitchen is literally hazardous. The dishwasher door falls open and almost landed on my 82 year old mother's foot. We had to be cautious with the kitchen drawers because they are also broken. A kuerig was listed and I called before our trip to confirm but when we arrived there was a traditional coffee pot. The realty company (who is wonderful) brought a kuerig. It's such a nice older structure but just needs some TLC.
