Overview

About the property

Romantic, modern rustic cabin with stars and sun - cozy on every leve

We invite you to unplug and let go of the hustle and bustle of the city with miles of trees and stars from every window. This is a special spot, the birds are abundant and wildlife is everywhere.

Our new telescope is a huge hit with our star gazing guests. Enjoy as our gift to you when you stay three or more nights - a bottle of wine under the stars with our fabulous push button propane fire pit and cozy chairs on the big back deck which faces the whole side of a mountain with nothing but native Pine trees!

We are sorry but we have no-smoking and no pets (no exceptions) on the property policy.

We are less than 2 hours from Los Angeles and yet you feel like you are far away. Why suffer the long hot traffic going to Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead? Pine Mountain Club is LA's best kept secret and no traffic!

This open three story home is rich with wood and light - views from all sides and balconies. There are four balconies and a lower area on the ground with great views. Which of our Master Suites will you choose?

The third floor is a loft master bedroom with queen size bed and jetted tub, with a balcony off the bedroom all you can see is pine trees and sky!

The main floor features a great room with high open ceilings and large windows, you have views on all sides of the pine forests / literally an unobstructed view of the side of a mountain. Watch our videos and additional photos on our social media sites. We have a kitchen and dining area with three decks on this level. One is off the kitchen where you can feel the morning sun at our bistro table that overlooks our side lot. These trees are loaded with bird houses and feeders for your enjoyment. There is a small deck facing the front with our propane BBQ.

The massive fireplace spans three levels - it's the main focal point of the house. You can feel the Frank Lloyd Wright influences on the architect in his original designs.

We have wifi throughout the house.

We have two record players and tons of dvds, LPs, CDs - and you can even make your own mix tape. We have an acoustic guitar to enjoy.

The lower level is a cozy TV and game area with washer/dryer and another bedroom and bathroom. This bedroom is another master bedroom with double doors that open to the lower patio area. We sometimes hang a hammock outside when the weather is nice! This bedroom has a comfy new queen bed. The art and touches in the house are centered around nature and the habitat around us.

We do not charge extra for linens and towels unlike many other rental properties at Pine Mountain Club. We include those for FREE when you stay with us. We also like to include a special bottle of wine for guests who stay three or more nights. We include propane for the BBQ and firepit and in the winter, wood for a romantic fire in one of our fireplaces.

Just up the street you can take a hike through the Enchanted Forest (you will see why it's called that!). There is also a hike to a waterfall you can Google. With your stay, you have FREE access to visit the clubhouse which boasts a game room (with foosball, ping pong, pool table, keyboards, and wifi). There is a restaurant, golf, outdoor swimming pool (summer months only/bring your own swim towels), tennis and equestrian. We have a gas station, restaurants and a grocery store. We are just miles from Mt. Pinos Recreation area (which features snow play in winter months).

We are just about 20 minutes from Frazier Park - you'll find more restaurants and grocery stores nearby. Not far are recreation areas to enjoy and antique shops. Most of our guests just come and enjoy the views and time well spent in the quiet natural environment. Thank you for considering our little oasis as a place to spend some quality time.

Fern Lake is next to the golf course and is a wonderful place to view wildlife and have a picnic - maybe even catch fish!

We feel our home is the ideal vacation for two to four people who are active and enjoy being in nature with deluxe accommodations. We have antiques and special touches throughout the home - it's not the type of place to have a keg party! It's a beautiful home with wonderful views. If you are looking for a romantic getaway or peaceful retreat in a lovely home with upgraded furnishings - this is the place for you. If you want a hotel-like atmosphere or a place you can party and leave - not the right fit for you.

We also don't feel our home is suitable for small children. This home is not ideal for adults with heart or health conditions because of the altitude and stairs. Thank you.

Weather and travel:

Our home is at 6,100 feet. During winter months, there can be snow and icy roads. You can be required by the state patrol to have chains and/or 4wd during the winter months. During those months they don’t allow street parking because of the snow plow. We have a narrow and steep driveway that gets icy. We recommend coming in one vehicle.

We ask our guests to plan accordingly. We are not able to accommodate cancellations or refunds due to weather related or other.

***No smoking, no pets on the property. This is a firm policy, no exceptions. We do not allow parties or events without prior approval. Violation of house rules can result in loss of damage deposit. Thank you. ***

Thank you for looking!!!

About Barb Hauser & Bob New

We love this place so much we wanted to share it with our friends and family and this seemed to be the next step!

Barb Hauser & Bob New purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Barb Hauser & Bob New chose Pine Mountain Club

Because it's so beautiful and accessible. The village is only a few minutes away and is adorable! This place is LA's best kept secret!

What makes this cabin unique

We love that we can be perched high in the trees and also take day trips all over! Bakersfield has amazing antiquing and Kern River Valley has white water rafting, ghost towns and so much hiking and nature along the way. We have a book packed full of stuff to do - or simply unplug and unwind - and enjoy the beauty all around. We have created an oasis for those wanting to recharge, draw or paint - write music or create something. The fresh air and quiet surroundings will refresh you! We also have a chef and massage therapist on call if you choose to have special requests. Check out our cds, records and movies - wow - you can even make your own MIX TAPE of your weekend music. We hope you enjoy our oasis in the trees. We want you to come back again and again.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great place / beautiful location / would stay here again

  • 5 of 5

Wife and I stayed here for three nights in Feb/March 2018.

The cabin was super clean and very nicely decorated. There are great views from the house, including from within due a lot of windows. Plenty of amenities and like some of the other travelers, we enjoyed listening to LP's and CD's, and watching a couple movies on the big TV. We took a trip to the clubhouse rec room and played a couple games of pool, though we had more fun playing at Madd Bailey's pub in town ;-).

We used the upper floor bedroom/loft and found the bed to be very comfortable. It is in a fairly open area (to the living room/kitchen below) so not super private, but certainly warmer in the winter. In contrast the bedroom on the lower level is very private, and likely a better choice when it's warm outside. The living room / dining room area is very nice for relaxing. This cabin is a good choice for up to four people, though is likely not suitable for young children running around due to the nice furniture and decorations.

The kitchen is very well stocked with the tools you might need for preparing a meal. I couldn't get the toaster to work but the oven has a broiler tray that worked well enough. We didn't use the bbq due to the weather.

The location is fantastic with all the trees. The enchanted forest trail is a short walk from the cabin. We hoped for a good dose of snow with a storm that came through but ended up getting just a couple inches. There was very little traffic on the roads in the immediate area, so we were comfortable taking walks around the neighborhood.

A few traveler tips: As others have noted, the driveway is narrow and a bit steep. Our F150 pickup fit O.K. but I wouldn't try getting anything bigger to the upper driveway area. (There is a small, fairly-level dirt pad that may be available. It's an offshoot of the lower driveway.) 2nd tip: The heater on the main floor works well but is a bit noisy to run while sleeping. There is a portable heater available and using it at night instead is more peaceful. 3rd tip: Before lighting a fire in one of the two fireplaces, you must make sure the flue is open. To do this, you'll need to shine a flashlight and look up the chimney while moving the lever to make sure it is in the open position. There's probably a flashlight in the house. I didn't look for one as I brought my own.

That's it. If you decide to stay here, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Very relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for relaxing weekend getaway. The house was clean and well equipped. We enjoyed sitting at the fire pit on the deck with a glass of vine looking at the stars. The birds and squirrels were visiting us asking for treats. Overall was very nice mini vacation. Thank you Barb and Bob.

"We can't wait to come back for another perfect getaway!"

We highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a place to get away but also enjoy modern conveniences in a stunningly beautiful home and surroundings. The trees and views are spectacular from any of the decks. The beds and furnishings were all very comfortable. Staying here with friends was a terrific way to unplug from a long work week. We had guitars and records, great food and friends plus about a billion stars you felt like you could reach out and touch. Quiet neighborhood with lots of privacy and so many birds and wildlife all around. Making plans was very easy with Bob and Barb and everything went like clockwork. It was a great value for the money and we highly recommend this lovely home - especially great for two couples or a family with older children. We love this house and can't wait to come back and try another season and play some tennis and enjoy the pool (which is included in the rental price!)

Great views, great location & nice details make this a winner

  • 5 of 5

My family and i just spent 4 days at "Perch in the pines" and had an amazing time. The description says "modern rustic", but I would not consider it that rustic, it is quite a nice house with high quality bed, sheets, towels, coffee machine, furniture, decorations, etc. The outdoor seating area on the main floor has amazing unobtructed views of the whole side of a mountain, it is a great place to sit and have a drink or enjoy a meal.

Squirres and birds regularly visited the balcony, and we saw several deer walk by the house. The enchanted forest trailhead is a 5 minute walk down the street, and the neighboring houses are not too close.

The main floor has very high ceilings and is spacious with a kitchen, dining area and living room. The loft is the main bedroom, and on the bottom floor is the TV room and the 2nd bathroom. Both beds are doubles, so I'd say this is a good house for a couple, two friends, 2 couples, or a couple with 1 or 2 kids.

There is a high quality sound system connected to a record player, and they have dozens of records from the 60's, 70's, and 80's they we played during the entire stay. they also have a large movie collection that we took advantage of, not a lot of kids movies but enough for us. The jacuzzi upstairs was also great. There are 2 acoustic guitars that we played alot.

The kitchen had everything we needed, including a high-end Keurig coffee maker with lots of different coffee packets. The house did not have a game room, but even better was access to the clubhouse game room a 5 minute drive away, which had foosball, air hockey, ping pong table, pool table and a piano. We went there a couple times and loved it. The general store, restaurants, and fern pond were all a 5 minute drive away. Wireless internet worked well, although it not really meant for something like streaming netflix movies.

Barb and Bob stay in their house often, and have it very nicely decorated. So it is best to think of this not as a house you can trash, but as a really nice place where you want to be thoughtful and take care of it. We loved it, and had no problems with our deposit - it was refunded the same day.

I will say the driveway is steep and narrow, in our SUV it was fine, but be sure to use your parking break. The waether was warm, so we didn't use the fireplace or heaters. Also, note that the foosball / ping-pong is not in the house, but in the clubhouse a 5 minute drive away.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Scott - and kind regards to your whole family! What a wonderful review and great feedback! We realize it takes time and effort to give an informative and helpful review and we are so pleased your whole family enjoyed and "got" what we are trying to do for our guests. Yes we use the cabin and we love it - and hope that we find like minded people who can enjoy it too. We are so happy to know how much you enjoyed our special touches and the incredible beauty we fell in love with at first glance! We were so inspired by your review and requests that we are purchasing a foosball table in the next few weeks to put in the cabin! Thank you for that great suggestion. We are happy you could use the game room at the club - it's so much fun! We are looking at trying to widen the driveway, we know that if it was a bit wider that would help. Thank you again! We are over the moon with happiness at the idea of your family having so much fun and enjoying the details we take pride in providing for your guests. We consider you now - part of our family and will have surprises and bonuses for you the next time you are able to join us. Best wishes and much appreciation for such a detailed - and well written review! PS You being a professional photographers - perhaps you can give some tips on how I can capture the incredible Milky Way on camera - that you can see from the deck at night - wow!

We will be back! Views, nature and oh so comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Perch in the Pines. We usually go to Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead - but were looking for something more authentic and less commercial. We found it. Bob and Barb were wonderful hosts and communication was easy. The furnishings were comfortable and we loved the upper loft especially. Our friends enjoyed the lower suite very much. We think it's a gem, one of the best finds in Pine Mountain Club and less than 90 minutes from Los Angeles. We took day trip up to go river rafting on the Kern river and antiqued our way back. The nature is beautiful and the quiet all around is great for re-charging the batteries.
