About Lorin Miles

Our goal is simple: To provide all of our guests with the best experience possible in our spectacular mountain getaway. We are both successful business owners who know that attention to detail is the key to a memorable vacation. Being outdoors enthusiasts ourselves, we are in a unique position to help our guests plan their outdoor adventures. It is a pleasure for both of us to be able to interact with our guests and help them to plan an unforgettable experience! We strive to maintain our home meticulously and have built in all the comforts of a luxury home. You will find a big difference when comparing our home to others. Simply put, you will not find a better value in the area! Our view is the THE BEST in the lower Smokies! Our furnishings and decor are modern and comfortable. Be sure to read our previous guests comments near the bottom of our site and see why so many people return to our fabulous mountain getaway! Thanks, Lorin & Dawn Miles

Why Lorin Miles chose Smoky Mountains

Being avid outdoors enthusiasts, we could not have picked a better place to build our dream home! It is perfectly located between Franklin, Bryson City and the Nantahala River area. Hiking, rafting, fishing, waterfalls, mountain biking, gem mining, restaurants and great shopping are just a few of the things within minutes of the home. Our home is an easy drive from the Asheville or Atlanta airports and within a 6 hour drive to over 25 large cities! Our location allows you to feel like you are 'away from it all'... yet it is close enough to run in to town if you need anything. Our view is a live, ever changing canvas of National Forest with layers of beautiful mountains!

What makes this chalet unique

One of the main reasons we love our home is the access to the Little Tennessee River. The river flows just a 5 minute walk away from the home! It is one of the most majestic rivers you can find. Our relationship with the Great Smoky Mountain Fish Camp allows us to help you plan your river activities! Just ask when inquiring about our home and we will be glad to put you in touch with them! The home offers absolute tranquility. Fresh coffee and sitting out on the deck listening to the wildlife in the early morning is an unforgettable experience! Watch as the sun lights up the incredible mountain range! This has become a 'guests favorite activity'. We invite you to come and stay with us to see why!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Lorin & Dawn, The giant spectacular view that greets the first time

visitor to your franklin vacation home is absolutely stunning! It is something

that photographs (even good ones like yours) just cannot capture. Despite

this, I persisted in taking pictures from the deck at all times of the day, in

sun, clouds, fog and rain. The look and mood of the mountains is always

changing and always beautiful. During our week here, we traveled hundreds

of miles around North carolina through the national forests and parks. The

best scenery was always the view from your home, waiting right here for us at

the end of the day.

The home is attractively furnished, fully equipped and the interior decorating

is just right. The kitchen is great. The wall of windows brings the mountain

views in to almost every part of the home. I'm even going to miss the bear in

the bathroom, making his offering from the roll between his paws.

Congratulations on what you have achieved here. You were very smart to

realize the potential of this site, and bold enough to commit to a complicated

and undoubtedly expensive home construction. This is a special and

unforgettable place, and Kathy and I are very happy that we had the

opportunity to stay here. Best wishes!

Smokey Mountain Heaven is heaven on earth!!

  • 5 of 5

This remote home is every thing you might want to come back to after a day of hiking or investigating the many area attractions...It is every thing you would want if you just need down time. The owners are very attentive to insuring your stay is positively unforgettable. Great attention to detail, like luxury towels and linens. When you add the amenities of the home to the glorious view, there is nothing to compare..The view is like watching an ever changing mural of God's creation..This is the best experience I have had using HomeAway. AAA+++ Thank you Lorin and Dawn.

Owner's Response: Sandy, it was a pleasure to host your group and we truly appreciate your kind review of our mountain getaway. Your description of the view as "God's Mural" is so true!! My wife and I always call it the "ever-changing mountain canvas". You can look out one moment and see clouds drifting above the river and in the next moment see beautiful shades of light dancing among the mountain greenery. It's truly spectacular seeing it from the 30 foot tall deck! We take pride in offering amenities that are of great quality to provide a comfortable experience. We are thrilled you enjoyed everything. Thank you for taking wonderful care of our home and please return when you can!

Mountain Bliss!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay in this lovely home. It is comfortable, cozy and charming. The view is beautiful, the beds are comfortable and hot tub is glorious! There are many dining options & outdoor activities fairly close by. The location is perfect for day trips to several cities. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Many thanks for sharing your home!

*A note regarding the handicap designation on this property. The parking area has a VERY steep incline. Our wheelchair conversion van could not pull in but fortunately there was a small area just past the house where we could park. In the photos of the home the porch looks level with the parking area but there is about a three inch step. We had to wrestle my sons 350 pound power wheelchair up that step & this prevented us from leaving the house until a portable ramp was delivered two days later (Amazon rocks!). There is a bedroom & bath on the main level. A wheelchair can navigate in these rooms but the bathroom is a little tight. Be aware the bath has a tub/shower combination with a sliding glass door.

Great view but don't plan on sleeping late

  • 4 of 5

The way the fog collects along the river and in the valleys is truly beautiful and makes for long range mountain views similar to those you find hiking the AT. Drawback with the way the 1 bedroom, 1 loft cabin is the loft gets to wake up with the sun. No problem for early risers but for late sleepers bring sleeping aids. One distraction the owners could improve on is the use of small signs to convey messages like "No dogs on couch", "SOS", and 13 other signs. The signs kind of ruin the homey feel you expect from VRBO. We would stay there again if we are in the area. Like I said. Great views.

Owner's Response: We are grateful for the 30 or so reviews that cast all the positive light on our magnificent home. It's views and amenities are unmatched in our area. When running a rental home you quickly learn that it is imperative to use signage to direct guests on the usage and operation/rules of the home. We wish all guests could arrive with great common sense, but unfortunately that is not the case. Without these reminders it would be easy for accidents to happen and rules pertaining to important things would be ignored. All owners use their individual experiences with guests to decide how to run their rentals. Vrbo has no hand in that. Waking up early and having coffee out on the deck listening to the sounds of wildlife is a luxury we look forward to! Our unique log home is truly a bucket list experience!

Home away from home with views to relax and soak in!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay! House was well stocked, able to prepare meals just like home. Very comfortable and well maintained. The view posted is not exaggerated, it is truly beautiful! Owner was most accommodating with providing great local info. However, if you use the directions to the Appalachian Trail on a good gravel road, be ready for an adventure. That road was a little scary! Loved exploring the spots the locals know about. A little far from town so plan accordingly. Great vacation, you won't be disappointed.
