About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Office, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

This house is truly a remarkable work of art. It was built to resemble an old stone barn and does so beautifully.

On the bottom floor there are two bedrooms both with en suite bathrooms. One bedroom has a king size bed while the other has a queen. Upstairs you will find a magnificent Great Room. At the one end there is a seating area in front of a gorgeous stone fireplace. At the other end you can sit and take in the Aran Islands, Galway Bay and breathtaking sunsets through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

In the center of the room, there is a kitchen area with an antique table that comfortably seats 12 people. Also, hidden behind the fireplace, there is a powder room. The entire house has under floor heating which is truly decadent in the cool Irish countryside.

For those of you who wish to leave the house you will find abundant entertainment. There is a gorgeous sand beach just down the road. For the golfers in your group there is a world-class golf course just a few towns over in Lahinch. Also in Lahinch you will find some of the country's best surfing. Fanore is not as reknowned for its surfing but does have a surf school every summer. And for those of you music lovers, Doolin is just one town over and is renowned for its traditional Irish music.

In addition Doolin has many incredible restaurants and a fabulous craft store just down the road from the church (The Doolin Craft Shop). And if you need to get out of the countryside and into a city, Galway is just an hour away. It’s a wonderful city. Despite its small size you can find most anything you need there. If you’re looking for a great bottle of Irish Whiskey or an unusual bottle of wine, go to The Vineyard then stop by Sheridan’s Cheesemongers where you will find an amazing selection of cheese from around the world. But for those who wish to explore Fanore, you will find gorgeous scenic walks and some of the best angling in the country. And if you want to see things from s different angle, go horseback riding. You’ll love it.

The house is just up the road from O'Donohue's Pub, a small grocery shop and a fabulous Italian restaurant. All of them are within walking distnce.

Enjoying the outdoors in Fanore, Ireland

VRBO Bear stayed here

Oct 22, 2009

This home in Fanore was simply stunning. While the outside was made of stone to mimic the area’s historic old stone houses, the inside was very modern, comfortable, and very well decorated. The views of the ocean from the upstairs living room were absolutely gorgeous. The living room was an amazing place to sit and enjoy a nice cup of hot tea while gazing out onto the ocean. The beds were also amazingly comfortable with their many pillows and cozy down comforters to keep us warm on chilly nights. It was unbelievable how much there is to see and do in this area of Ireland. There were many great restaurants, quaint pubs, old castle ruins a few miles up the road and in the next town over, Ireland’s most visited tourist attraction- The Cliffs of Moher. Plus, the beach was just a short walk down the road. The beach alone with its unique limestone rock formations and tide pools with many fascinating creatures, kept us entertained for hours. The sunset (which was also viewable from the home’s private balcony) was truly incredible. Needless to say, I did not want to leave this beautiful home. The VRBO Bear

Perfect Seaside Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed in the Stone House for 4 days, 3 nights and it was a DREAM! Not only is the house itself picturesque (like a house in a magazine! hello Instagram) but the view was one of the best on the island. Nothing beats waking up, drinking some Irish coffee, and looking out of 25 foot glass windows to see the ocean. We were a little concerned beforehand that the house was going to be too remote (we are city people) but it was the perfect location for exploring many different parts of the west (e.g., Galway, Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, etc.). It's a short drive from Liscannor, where there were amazing restaurants, including The Smoke House, which was recommended to us by a local, and which we are now recommending to you!

Closer to the house, you can easily walk to Fanore beach and the Blackhead Loop (a really nice hike), as well as O'Donnohue's, the local pub, which served a killer hot brownie and ice cream =)

Even though there were only 2 of us who stayed in the house, it's really sizable, so it would also be great for groups and/or families (there are 3 bathrooms and a ton of sleeping space). The amenities are also great- we stopped by a petro station and picked up groceries and ended up cooking a few meals in the kitchen here. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking meals and making coffee. We also did laundry, which was great after traveling for a week +. Who doesn't like returning home with clean clothes!

Last, Anna, who let us into the property, could not have been sweeter. It was wonderful to meet another person who truly epitomizes Irish hospitality.

Thank you so much to the owners of this home for creating the perfect vacation rental! We loved this personal and quaint taste of the Irish countryside.

awesome

The property was wonderful...stunning home that from the time we arrived, we felt at home. The west coast of Ireland is a land of discovery and The Stone Cottage is right in the middle of action that needs to be seen. Deirdre and Joan did a great job providing details for our stay. Unfortunately the pub close to the cottage was closed the time we stayed but Doolin is close enough for some good fun. We have stayed at B&B's previous to this stay but will consider The Stone Cottage as our West of Ireland home. Thanks

Superlative

  • 5 of 5

Myself and my partner have just stayed in the Stone House for a few days and we wanted to stay a lot longer. The setting is amazing, the scenery fantastic, the beach just down the road beautiful and peaceful, the proximity for exploring the area unreal.

The house itself was pretty much perfect. The bedrooms on ground level are protected from the wild Atlantic weather perfectly (we visited in late October) and the master room opens out onto a garden full of herbs and diverse Burren plant-life.

Upstairs, the great room is stunning. At one end a beautiful raised fireplace which was perfect to warm by after a days exploring. At the other end the most amazing view; a hundred miles of sky and sea viewed through floor to ceiling windows and a balcony outside to step out onto and drink in the sea air. In the middle, a kitchen stocked with every manner of dish and utensil, everything we needed we found.

I could write a lot more, but I think anyone reading will get the gist!

Superb, we'll be back for sure

Incredible Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our first trip to Ireland. The Stone House was amazing in every way. The hikes right out the door, the views from the house, the decor, the accessibility to neighboring areas to explore, everything was perfect! We will definitely be back for longer...

Beautigul house!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and another couple spent 10 days at the Stone House in late April. The beautiful, well-designed home was a perfect accommodation for the four of us. The bedroom suites, well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable great room made for a relaxing stay. The views were spectacular!!! We were blessed with sunny weather making easy our exploration of the unique Burren area. Thanks to Deirdre we had a wealth of information on local activities and places to visit and eat! Anna was most helpful and friendly. We'll remember the beautiful sunsets and new friends in Fanore....possibly the 'longest' village in Ireland!

Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in the lovely Stone House for five days after a very busy few days visiting Family and attending a wedding. The home is so inviting and cozy. The weather was pretty tough. Hurricane winds, rain, and even snow, but there was no need to travel far. We enjoyed evenings by the peat fireplace and great dinners at the wonderful table.

The view of the ocean is beautiful and quite exciting with all the wild weather.Anna is so helpful and knowledgeable. The area is very nice for long walks. A peaceful vacation in a perfect home and quaint town.
