This was nice and relaxing, had a nice breeze and was pretty private location. Great trails out the back of the property to go explore, saw some elk and heard them bugle. Great to sit out either on the front or back deck to just relax and we had a great getaway!

"This property is the perfect getaway—just a short drive from the Valley, yet it feels like a world away. We love the direct access to the national forest and the peace of mind that comes with the large fenced-in yard where the kids can play freely. Tranquil and Rejuvenating

I can’t recommend this house more! The hosts are wonderful, the property has everything you need and more. The location is quiet and peaceful, surrounded by stunning views and close to stores and restaurants. We will be returning to this gem of a house!

Our stay at Elkwood Lodge

We loved our stay here. We just wanted a place to get away and meet up with our adult kids and relax. It was perfect. The house is spacious and comfortable. It’s a great place to take advantage of the Payson area. We hiked in the adjoining national forest land, visited the Tonto Natural Bridge, and took our pups for a swim up at Willow Springs Lake. Easy access to everything. We’ll be back!

Communication was outstanding with the host. The amenities were as described. This is a very peaceful area with a high opportunity of seeing some majesty wildlife. The weather wasn’t the best but that made for great family bonding time.

Beautiful place!

Such a wonderful cabin! Clean, spacious, secure! Went with some family and our young kids. Hiking trails right out back, beautiful views from the couch, clean and cozy! We hope to be back again! Close to town but also feels secluded. Nice to have a fenced in property if you have a dog. Loved this place!!

Loved our Payson stay

We enjoyed our long weekend stay at the Elkwood Lodge. The house is beautiful and had everything we needed. The host was very accommodating and took care of HVAC issue promptly. Access to the national forest from the back gate provided us with nice short hikes with the littles. We will be back!

Perfect Family Getaway!

This home is a perfect mix of quiet seclusion while still having all Payson has to offer at your fingertips! You can tell in the details of this home that the hosts care about comfort and that their guests truly enjoy their stay. Our kids and dogs had a blast enjoying the freedom of safely exploring the fenced in property as well as family hikes on the open land behind it. We can’t wait to book our next getaway to this property!

Peaceful vibes, awesome views.

The property is great for families. Plenty of space in and around the house to not feel on top of one another. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals, and there is a trail directly behind the house for hiking. Bird watching on the porch is a must, and it was awesome to have a bucket of bird seed provided.

Quiet escape from the city

As advertised: very nice property, beautiful views. We had a clear sky at night, so the stars were amazing. Hiking trails directly from the yard. Large fenced in yard that our 2 dogs loved. Thank you!

Just What the Doctor Ordered

This was the perfect location to get out of the Phoenix heat! It is close enough to the town of Payson to make it quite convenient, yet is tucked away on a large parcel that backs up to some incredible state land with great views. This is the first VRBO that we have added to the 'let's do this one again' list. It was fantastic!!

Great property

This property was exceptional from the moment we booked. Great communication with the property management. When we arrived everything was exactly what we expected from all the pictures. The house accommodated our family of 10 very comfortably. It’s location is just far enough to enjoy the peace and quite of nature, but still close enough to the rim and all the lakes to really enjoy exploring the area. We hope to come back again.

Luxury Rustic with an Irreplaceable View!

Elkwood Lodge was such a nice getaway for our family - our only complaint is we wish we could have stayed longer. It has great 360 degree views and beautiful grounds. The cabin is well kept and clean. We had a blast on that deck watching the sunrise, listening to animal sounds, and playing games. Our kiddo had fun downstairs watching movies and playing. I highly recommend Elkwood Lodge to anyone.

Cabin in the pines

This cabin outside of payson was amazing! Had a short drive from town into the mountains. The 2.5 acre property is fully fenced in which is wonderful if you have dogs. Place was clean and just the right amount of seclusion. The hot tub out back was hot and perfect for those cold nights. Overall our stay was a perfect getaway and look forward to returning in the future.

Excellent outdoor getaway

Fantastic getaway with lots of trails to explore and loved the property and the dogs did also. House was perfect for our family and the spa was great too. Will definitely be back.

BOOK THIS PROPERTY!!!

Our family of 6 enjoyed this property so very much! It is even better than the pictures! From the COMFY furniture and beds in every room, to the well-equipped kitchen and game closet - we had all we could ask for and more. Plus the home is decorated so well - very modern cabin vibes...and it made for some really cute family pics! The downstairs area was PERFECT for our 8, 10, 13 and 15 year old kiddos - they had a hang out room with a TV and movies and two adorable bedrooms and their own bathroom. We stay in several rental properties each year all over AZ/Cali/Mexico and this one was by far our favorite! It is SO QUIET and you really feel at home when you're there. The main living room has a super comfy couch big enough for our entire family to snuggle by the fire - this mattered to us! Huge pillows too! Every light switch is labeled and the owners left little notes about the things you might otherwise have to reach out about, it was so helpful! They really provided all the little extras and personalized touches. We wanted for nothing! Real wood burning fireplace inside, propane fireplace and comfy sofa set on the front patio, grill and hot tub on the back patio - we utilized all of it every morning, afternoon and evening. We cooked big meals and had every utensil, dish and supply we could've needed and then some. We hiked in the area behind the house, even walked along and through the creek - spotted lots of wild life along the way - the kids LOVED it all! We recommend bringing an Apple TV or Firestick - we were happy we brought ours to watch our shows/movies in the evening. I would 10/10 recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet weekend in the woods. It was awesome! We hope to rent again in the future!

Quiet location with trails out the back!

This is a nice two story home on fenced property with a bit of acreage and located on a cul de sac. It's only a 10 minute drive max into Payson proper and affords the beauty of not being right in town. It is peaceful and quiet. We love hiking with our dogs and had planned on many hikes in the forest and along the Mogollon Rim area but when one dog experienced health issues the hiking trails right out the back gate became our go to option. The trails were amazing and even had stream crossings in multiple areas as well as plenty of offerings of shade. The master bed was extremely comfortable and the baths were clean and functional. The only things we had to go out and buy for our own use were shower gel and shampoo as well as Kleenex type tissues and laundry detergent. The kitchen was supplied well and everything in the kitchen was in working order. Staying in May the upper level got warm late in the day and we had to use the thermostat at times and were not familiar the Nest unit. We were able to set it where we wanted but it defaulted back to other settings as high as 88 at certain times which we could not figure out how to change and did not want to bother the owner. I'd just reset it down to the lower 70's as necessary. The decks were spacious and clean and enjoyable to use with multiple seating options. We varied from front to back based on time of day and sun angles. The owner has a bird feeder on the front deck and seed available in a can for use. It was fun to see various bird species including Acorn Woodpeckers, Mexican Jays, Finches and Eurasian Doves come and feed as well as the occasional squirrel. The acreage is fully fenced and a dog door is located on the lower level of the home. Because it was snake season we did not let our dogs run loose except for in the early morning when it was usually at or below 50 degrees and safe. We did see a rattlesnake off the property while hiking on a trail in Payson. Be aware there's a small area at the large back gate that a smaller or athletic medium dog could possibly escape through. The property was quite clean and we didn't see dried dog feces everywhere which was nice. We always clean up after our dogs and it seems others have been doing so. Huge thanks to these owners for providing an outstanding property for owners with pets. I pray all future pet owners stay highly responsible so this wonderful rental remains available. We are already trying to figure out when we can return.

Incredible Getaway & Beautiful Property!

Rented the Elkwood for my husbands 40th. He wanted a peaceful Mtn getaway with great views but not wanting too far of a drive from the PHX area. This place was totally perfect! 1.5 hrs is all it took to get there but felt like a total escape from city life. We are used to Pinetop Area and weren’t sure if this would have a similar feel but it def did. The home is on an extra large lot that is all fenced in. One part in the fence a little dog could get through but our pup is huge so no worries there for us. Our 3 year old dtr and Puppy absolutely loved the space and exploring;) The decks on front and back are huge and very safe. All stairs have sturdy handrails. The house was clean , beautiful kitchen, amazing decor and plenty of different places to hang out! Extra large dining table for bigger groups and comfy large sectional sofa. Fully stocked kitchen, amazing hot tub and the bedrooms were wonderful! Really would not change a thing ! Highly recommend!
