Summer and Ski Cottage

Raurimu is a relaxing family village close to Whakapapa Skifield, trout fishing rivers and great walking and mountain bike tracks. It is a fantastic place to explore both locally and a few minutes further afield into the National Park. If you enjoy the great outdoors - hand feeding eels or discovering the resident Blue Duck/Whio in the local rivers and streams then this is the place for you. Why not try The 42 Traverse which is one of the North Island’s best-loved one day mountain bike rides. The Ohakune Old Coach Road track and the starting point for the Mountains to Sea cycle trail are also just down the road. The cottage is the perfect place for a comfortable and warm escape for couples and families alike.
There is a large lawn out the back, hammocks and lots of toys and games for the young (and young at heart!) We were guests at the cottage and loved it so much, we bought it! We want to continue to share this wonderful part of New Zealand with like minded travellers.
Please note cleaning/linen/towels are not provided. (Under true Kiwi bach tradition guests are expected to leave the cottage as clean/tidy as they find it.)

We loved the cottage. It was clean and the beds were very comfortabel. There were a lot of games and childrens toys. We had everything for a carefree stay.

Perfect relaxing space

This space is very well appointed, all the kitchen equipment was good quality and everything we needed for a lovely stay was there. An unpretentious lovely 'bach' feel.

Raurimu stay

Awesome location and great cottage. Rail history is fascinating and location is close enough jump off point for the Alpine Crossing.

Cosey Cottage

Very comfortable, well equipped cottage. We had everything we needed for our three day stay. Arrived during a late season cold snap, heating coped well. Good bed. There aren’t any facilities in Raurimu however it is only a few kms to National Park for essential supplies, a couple of restaurants and a coffee van.

Brilliant central location with easy access to the mountain and Owhango, where I love to visit the Cafe, Sunday Market, bush walks and the river. The cottage had heaps of books and toys for all ages.

Top notch!

Liz sent us all the info we needed a couple of days before we arrived. Such an easy process. The house was spotless, thanks to the previous guests. The cottage is lovely and has everything a family needs. Well equipped kitchen! We cooked all our meals as we didnt want to take the children out to eat after coming home from the mountain. So glad we chose a whare with a bath. A good soak for the children after sledding in the snow, was just what they needed. The cottage is north facing, so the lounge and main bedroom was sun filled. We were lucky to have three sunny days, but snow on Ruapehu. The purpose of our trip was to take our grandchildren to experience the snow. We also took them down to the river to do some eeling. Theres so much to do in the area without having to drive anywhwere. The neighbours and the people we met doing just that, were all lovely. The equipment in the shed kept our children happy and the toys and DVDs when it was time to chill out were much appreciated. A fabulous time had by all. Thanks so much Liz and Grant. I re

Lovely cottage

We had a great stay here for 2 nights whilst we hit the mountain. Only 5 minutes up the road from National Park, and easy to get to Whakapapa. Clean and tidy, lots of toys for the kids, well stocked kitchen.. we loved our stay and would look to stay again next winter! Highly recommend.

Warm, peaceful, convenient cottage.

We stayed two nights whilst snowboarding Whakapapa. Vendor is friendly and helpful. Cottage was spacious for two, and could have comfortably accommodated a few more. We're likely to return sometime with kids in tow. Regards, Julie and Chris.

The house had everything we needed for a home away from home. Heaters for each room made sure we were warm and toasty after playing around in the snow.

We stayed in the cottage in 2021 and we loved it so much we decided to buy it. We have a 10 year old son who loves the outdoors - especially fishing… We find Raurimu the ideal getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and love the fact that it’s old school DVDs and enjoying the tranquility. There are lots of hidden tracks around the village that lead to awesome views and nature at its best.
