The Elm Tree- Designer Home in the heart of Daylesford
Lovingly restored and transformed, this exquisite, rare gem from Daylesford gold mining days was formerly an 1860’s pub. Its warmth and character is complimented by contemporary designed spaces, and a carefully curated collection of artwork and curiosities; providing a unique and stylish home with historic intrigue.
The Elm Tree’s original features includes high ceilings, timber lining boards, grand timber sash windows, baltic pine floors, fireplaces, pressed metal walls and leadlight windows.
Today the open plan lounge and dining areas are graced with a beautiful French designed Cheminees Philippe cast iron wood heater, large contemporary pendant lighting and cosy drapes. There is a timber dining table that seats 10, a large wrap around comfy sofa and chairs, all with views out to the north facing rear courtyard.
The new and charming, and fully equipped kitchen is perfect for any gourmet or group cook-up. The kitchen opens directly onto the rear veranda and outdoor entertaining area via large French doors; perfect for pre-dinner drinks, a BBQ lunch, or to gather around the fire pit in the evening. The wide eastern veranda off the dining room is the perfect spot to enjoy a cuppa and read the newspaper in the morning sun.
The elegant Parlour was originally the hotel’s “Ladies Lounge” where drinks were received via the sliding internal window from the all-male pub room. Today it’s a snug and alluring gallery space lit by a French chandelier, which salutes the women of yesteryear, and is furnished with a large, restful day bed for you to relax or watch a movie.
With 5 bedrooms, The Elm Tree caters for up to 10 guests in hotel quality beds. The huge and amazing main bedroom was originally the heart of the building which housed the pub and was entered directly from the southern veranda. Today it provides a sumptuous king size bed, contemporary luxury and historic charm, including colourful artwork and French antiques. The pub’s bottle shelving still lines the walls, as does the original open fireplace. There are 3 large windows with timber shutters for light and privacy. Each of the other 4 bedrooms are unique in their design and furnishings with two having private ensuites.
The stunning Victoria & Albert Toulouse bath is the centrepiece of the gorgeous light filled main bathroom, providing an elegant place to soak and unwind after a day of exploring the local sites and treasures.
Stay cosy and warm. In addition to the elegant French wood heater, The Elm Tree has fully ducted heating throughout every room, and reverse cycle air-conditioned in the living, dining, and kitchen areas. High speed Wifi, 2 large TVs and B&O Bluetooth speaker complete the picture for your relaxing stay.
The Elm Tree is a 5-minute walk to Wombat Hill Botanical Gardens, a 10-minute stroll to the Farmers Arms Hotel, the inspiring Convent Gallery is 15 minutes away, and a 20 minute wander gets you to the shopping village.
Guided by brilliant Interior Designer, Dominique Hunter from Hunter Richards, the transformation of this beautiful and significant building is now complete.

The Elm tree was a lovely place to stay with friends and family. It was a wet weekend, and we still found plenty to do and be warm and cosy. Great stock of essentials and plenty of parking.
The Elm Tree was a fabulous house, clean and beautifully designed with plenty of room for the 8 guests who were on a girls weekend.
We stayed 3 nights and the house had everything we wanted - we had a small issue with the heating but a phone call to the Manager and they sent the caretaker around to sort it out. They gave us extra wood for the woodheater and firepit so we were very cosy.
The Kitchen was well equipped with all the utensils we needed to whip up beautiful meals.
Only one small recommendation - check the temperature on the wine cooler compartment of the fridge when you arrive, as we didn't and our wine was frozen - we just assumed it would be set as a cooler as that was what was advertised.
