The White Oak House is available for rental year-round. All seasons at the house are distinctive. In the fall, the vistas of the multi-colored foliage are breathtaking; winter is serene; spring is noteworthy for early blossoms; and in summer nature shows off its bounty.
Surrounded by farm fields and woods, the farmhouse is an ideal spot for the enjoyment of nature. Deer and wild turkeys are frequent sights in the landscape. Hiking, snow shoeing and cross country skiing are welcome activities at the White Oak farm.
A very special walk leads to the astonishingly large white oak tree and a wetland pond and beaver dam adjacent to it.

The White Oak House is located in the township of Hoosick, where the scenic agricultural landscape still reflects the paintings by Grandma Moses, the renowned folk artist who lived in the area.
The White Oak House is situated on a country road in an agricultural community within easy driving distance of the Capital District and Saratoga Springs, NY; Williamstown, MA; Bennington, VT; and several ski areas. It is just 5 miles from the village of Hoosick Falls, northern Rensselaer County, NY and 10 miles from the village of Cambridge, southern Washington County.
Cambridge offers an active community arts center with theater and musical performances (Hubbard Hall Projects), and surrounding communities offer a wide range of cultural and sporting activities. For example, Williamstown is renowned for its summer theater, as well as the Williams College Museum and Clark Art Institute. Saratoga Springs has thoroughbred horse racing and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the National Museum of Dance and the National Museum of Racing in addition to several other museums.
Bennington has the Bennington Museum, Bennington Battle Monument, and the Bennington Pottery. Manchester, VT is known for its shopping outlets, including Orvis, the famous store/school specializing in fly fishing.
The nearby Battenkill River is a must for trout fishing, and the Little Hoosic River also offers fine fishing opportunities. There are several horseback riding stables in the area and numerous lakes for swimming.
Nearby lakes include Lake Paran, N. Bennington, VT; Lake Shaftsbury, Shaftsbury, VT., Lake Lauderdale, Cambridge, NY; Grafton Mt. Lakes and Grafton Lakes, State Park, Grafton, NY. Canoeing, tubing and kayaking opportunities exist both on the Hoosic River (with a boat launch just a few miles away) and the Battenkill River.
The closest golf course, Dutchhaven in Buskirk, is a 5 minute drive. Other nearby golf courses can be found at: the Hoosick Falls Country Club; Mount Anthony Country Club, Bennington, VT; and Windy Hills Golf Course in Greenwich, NY. The closest ski area is Willard Mountain (a 15 minute drive). Other ski areas within a reasonable commute include Jiminy Peak in Hancock, MA; Stratton Mountain, Bondville, VT; Mt. Snow, West Dover, VT.
Walking or driving along picturesque country roads leading to and from the White Oak House is a favored pastime by visitors as well as residents. Bike riding is also a pleasure, taking in the beautiful countryside at closer range.
Late summer offerings include the two agricultural fairs: the Schaghticoke Fair in Schaghticoke, NY and the Washington County Fair in Greenwich, NY.
Fine restaurants can be found throughout the area, some with local color, others with gourmet cuisine. Grocery and drug stores, banks, restaurants, and a variety of specialty stores are about 6 miles away.
The beauty of the fall foliage cannot be extolled enough. It is every bit as spectacular in the Buskirk area as in VT.
Year Purchased: 1993
About the owner: I am an artist who settled in Buskirk (northern Rensselaer County) in the early 1970s. I was drawn to this area by the beauty of its historic farmsteads. Over the years I became involved in conserving agricultural land and the rural landscape.
Why the Owner Chose Eagle Bridge, NY, USA:
I purchased the White Oak Farm in order to keep it from being subdivided and developed. It is very near my house, and I was concerned about losing the agricultural vistas. I have put the farm under a conservation easement, which means that its 95 acres of land can never be subdivided and will always be available for agricultural use.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
Soon after I purchased the farm, I undertook a complete restoration of the house and buildings, concentrating on retaining the historic details. Trim on the windows was replicated and the original hand hewn wood beams in the ceiling on the second floor were revealed. The sun room addition and modern kitchen were decorated with wood beams and wide boards. The patio with its stone wall and the assortment of well maintained, historic outbuildings all enhance the rustic chic charm of the farmhouse. The land is leased to a farmer who plants corn and hay. Walking through the fields to the beaver dam and the magnificent white oak tree is a unique and rewarding experience.
