About this property

Best Casa: Peaceful Apartment in Historic Hacienda with Private Hot Tub

Best Casa is a hidden jewel only a block from Taos Plaza. It is part of a historical hacienda style adobe, over a century old, that once housed nuns working at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Newly renovated, the interior features an earthship style kitchen with south facing windows designed allow the sunlight to passively heat the room. The spacious kitchen is fully equipped and includes unique touches: a counter top made from a bowling lane, custom concrete countertops with inset planters, and a built in cherry cutting board. The living space has high ceilings, a plush wool rug and a large smart TV. The high-end sleeper sofa is very comfortable.

The apartment sleeps four people, and if you have more in your group, my other VRBO rental, #462128, is right across the courtyard.

There is a small very private outdoor area with a brick patio and grassy lawn. An outdoor kiva fireplace stands in the corner of the patio, and you might be able to squeeze four people into the 3-person hot tub.

Gas range and a large collection of cooking supplies. Nespresso machine with milk frother, French press, drip coffee maker. Toaster oven. French door refrigerator, microwave. Full size washer and dryer, heated bathroom floor, ceiling fans. Premium linens, a felted wool comforter, and down pillows; a comfortable plush/firm queen mattress. Very comfortable high-end queen sleeper sofa. High speed internet, Smart TV, Blue Ray/DVD player, high quality SONOS sound system, NetFlix, Amazon Prime streaming, and YouTubeTV. Large selection of books and games.

Sorry, but I cannot allow pets.

The apartment is located on a quiet one-way street only one block west of the Taos plaza, and the location of the apartment is one of its greatest assets. From the front door, a five minute walk will reach twelve restaurants, dozens of galleries, the best coffee in town (The World Cup), Manzanita Market, Smith's grocery store, the Bent Street shopping district, Ledoux Street, and of course, the Taos Plaza. Security camera disclosure: There is a doorbell camera on the door that opens onto the courtyard and also one on the door that opens to the private back yard. There is also a motion activated security camera in the parking area and one at the front entrance to the courtyard. Other units on the property also have doorbell cameras.

I'm the luckiest guy I know. I'm truly thankful to have the privilege to be able to travel often and far. I've been welcomed into people's homes all over the world, and though I've been fairly nomadic most of my life, now for the first time I have my own place, which I have renovated and am offering as a getaway for fellow travelers to enjoy. I am also just starting to use AirBnB when I travel, and I look forward to my upcoming trips overseas.

I grew up in Snyder, Texas, surrounded by pumpjacks and fields of cotton. In the summers when I was a kid, my family would pile into the GoodTimes van and hit the road for weeks, escaping the 110 degree West Texas heat: Vermont, Florida, Wyoming, northern California, and all in between. When I was fourteen I spent a summer in Germany on an exchange program, and since then I've been hooked on travel. I studied biology writing in college and after graduating worked for the Fish & Wildlife Department in Alaska for a summer. I then worked in Nicaragua as a carpenter for over a year and slowly made my way to Taos, New Mexico, where I've lived for almost thirteen years.

My most recent journey was a 16-month solo motorcycle trip around the world. I drove west to Seattle, flew my motorcycle to Tokyo, and made my way to Siberia, west through northern Asia and the Middle East, south through Africa to CapeTown, then north through West Africa to Morocco. After a couple months in Europe, I flew the BMW to New Jersey and drove back home to Taos; 50 countries, 500 days, 46,000 miles.

Taos has a lot to offer for a lover of the outdoors like myself. I spend a lot of time in the nearby mountains, skiing, hiking with my dogs, fishing, biking, and motorcycling. I've always enjoyed many sports, and I regularly play soccer, tennis, basketball, and volleyball.
