Experience the cozy charm of our stunning shingled 'Sommerhus'. A newly built 1000-sf guest cottage inspired by our Danish heritage. Designed with natural materials, modern amenities, & a Scandi-rustic vibe that will wrap you in comfort & contentment. Set in a private forested landscape just 5 km from Sidney & 25 km to Victoria. A peaceful retreat for nature lovers, creatives, couples, & families.

Property:
Timber beams, soaring ceilings with passive solar clerestory windows, & a freestanding gas fireplace provide the classic Scandinavian cottage experience.

Work remotely with fast fibre optic Wifi & a forest view. A selection of books, puzzles, toys, & board games will keep everyone connected and entertained.

The hand-crafted shaker kitchen is fully equipped with premium appliances & cookware. Enjoy four brewing options with French roast, Keurig, espresso, decaf, & a selection of teas.

Both bedrooms feature custom cedar headboards, reading lights, premium mattresses with 3" toppers, cotton sheets, & cozy duvets. A pack n' play crib & high chair are available upon request.

The fully covered porch can be enjoyed year-round with Adirondack chairs & a Weber gas grill. The gas firepit & picnic table area are string-lit at night. Evenings can be spent making s'mores or watching the sunset over fir & cedar trees.

Guest Access:
The cottage is located at the rear of our property. It is tucked beside a seasonal stream & secluded 1-acre forest. It is yours to enjoy in complete privacy from the main house.

Designated parking for two (2) vehicles directly in front for easy access & unpacking.

*Please note:
We do not have an EV charger. There are 16 super-charging stations just 3 km from the cottage at the Sandown Shopping Center.

We are friendly, helpful hosts who will respect your privacy at all times.

As onsite hosts, we value trust & transparency to ensure the best possible host~guest experience. Kindly send a reservation request listing all guests & your general purpose of stay. 🙏

Amazing cottage stay

My family had an amazing stay at this cottage. It was definitely one of the top rentals we have ever stayed in. The property had everything you needed and more and was beautifully decorated. We would highly recommend this property and would love to stay here again.

Cottage getaway

This is a beautiful property. Hosts are lovely and the “cottage” is absolutely perfect! Very thoughtfully and tastefully equipped with everything you could need. Everything is new and beds are very comfortable. We will be back!

Owl cottage

This is a superb cottage. It is a recent build and is surrounded by rainforest. Very quiet, except for the resident Great Horned Owl which hooted in the evening. Our hosts, Julie and John were amenable but discreet. Overall a wonderful place to spend a holiday.

Cozy cottage in the woods

The Cottage was a warm and cozy way for us and our two small dogs to spend a couple of weeks on Vancouver Island in the early spring. The house was beautifully designed and nicely furnished for relaxing and reading by the fire. The kitchen was modern, spacious and fully equipped and the bathroom was the nicest we’ve encountered to date in our VRBO travels. Very comfortable and highly recommended.

A cozy adventure launch pad

We’ve stayed at many VRBOs, and this was by far the most thoughtfully designed property we’ve been to. The design evokes relaxation and coziness - perfect for a romantic getaway. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook delicious meals. Our dogs enjoyed the porch almost as much as us! We went to multiple beaches and saw seals, starfish, crabs, and most as well as getting on a hike and out kayaking. Highly recommend The Cottage!

Hope to return again

Beautiful cottage in great location. All the comforts of home and then some. Attentive hosts. We missed the binder with all the details until the morning we left. Make sure you find, looked like a lot of good info. Lots of nice features in the cottage and most all the kitchen items you will need. Several coffee options. Beds are comfy.

Serene and rejuvenating holiday

We cannot say enough about this stunning and extensively equipped home. Attention to detail for the comfort and convenience of guests is outstanding. A mere short drive to town for supplies; with lovely walks and sights in the near vicinity. We especially enjoyed the lovely Cy Hampson fenced dog park in nearby Sydney. Our hosts, Julie and John, made the visit. They are hospitable, kind, and helpful without ever being intrusive. Thank you both for a wonderful experience - we hope to visit again soon. P&O&S

Lovely stay, exceeded expectations

We didn’t want to leave! The cottage itself is beautiful, and its location tucked away in the trees was very special. We enjoyed watching squirrels, ravens, and familles of raccoons and deer. It was close to kayaking, Butchart Gardens, beaches, farm stands, and so many hiking and running areas. The Cottage is well appointed with everything we needed. The hosts even anticipated us needing beach chairs and sunscreen on a particularly hot July day. The porch, fire table and hammocks are relaxing, the bedding was comfortable and the kitchen was a joy to cook in. We hope to return!

This beautiful shingled cottage was completed in the Summer of 2022 with family & visitors in mind. Having worked in architecture & the hospitality industry, we had very specific ideas on how it would look and feel to our guests. Our Danish heritage is reflected in everything we do, including how we designed & decorated this little gem. One defining characteristic of Danish culture is called "Hygge" (Hooga), that of contentment & coziness. We trust you will experience this throughout your stay.

Surrounded by a long coastline on three sides, it offers quick access to B.C. Ferris, the gulf islands, & the quaint seaside town of Sidney.
