There were quite a few light bulbs out. I am not sure if your cleaning company is responsible for that.. We marked the steps with waste baskets because of a few missteps. The drain nets annoying but manageable. Beds were comfortable . Beautiful view out into the woods.
Cabin has a lot of character. Maybe not for everyone but my group thoroughly enjoyed our stay. You definitely need to watch your step on the first day as you get used to the layout! Great air conditioning, and very scenic views from the large windows. Host was very responsive.
Easy to reach from Chicago, and near great hikes and not far from Madison. Kind host with great communications - cozy and warm for a perfect winter getaway.
This house had everything we needed for a girls weekend—so much space, great natural light, comfy beds, super soft sheets, giant fridge and plenty of cooking supplies. Close to Madison but felt very far away-so relaxing!
Came up with a few friends for a quiet weekend in the woods! Plenty of space for all of us to spread out or hang together in the common areas. Looking out at the woods while drinking coffee in the morning was divine. Host was very quick to respond to any questions we had.
We loved the cabin! We were in town for a convention so we didn't spend much time at the cabin outside of sleeping, but it was spacious and had room for our whole crew. We did have a couple of small issues (oven not working, and one of the shower heads plugged up) but were able to work around them. The one issue that did affect us was that one of the downstairs bathrooms seems to have bugs that can get in through the drain. They're very small, just gnats or fruit flies or something, but there were a LOT of them. We got some fly strips and kept the drains shut and it cleared them out. The host also refunded us for the strips, so we appreciated that. Jason (the host) was communicative and helpful throughout, accommodating a last minute request we had before the visit due to a last minute change of plans.
A group of friends and I traveled from MO for the CF Games and the place was perfect for what we needed. Plenty of space and the communication with Jason was great! Thanks!
Perfect getaway for our family. We used it as a hub to visit Cave of the Mounds, House on the Rock, family in Madison and Devil’s Lake State Park. I loved the little nooks for reading with my coffee or Bloody Mary. The kids loved the high speed internet! Communication with the property manager was excellent.

Thanks for the feedback - we will work on beefing up the kitchen supplies. Feel free to send me a list of things you were looking for but didn't see.
The place and its layout certainly have their quirks. But it is in a beautiful area. The house is comfortable and very decently appointed. And not to mention very convenient to lots of local attractions and businesses. If you're looking for a comfy log cabin in Wisconsin this is a great place to try out.
Great property. Location is quiet and good for relaxation, yet close enough to restaurants, stores, etc. Unique, nice house. Some cleaning and minor maintenance needed. Host sent rental agreement for signature after payment was made.

Disappointed in this house.
There is only one entrance/exit . All other doors are duct-taped or inoperable. Especially concerning as most of the bedrooms are in the basement. Kitchen microwave is a joke, you'd have to lie on the floor to use it. TV doesn't work, cell service was practically nonexistent. Certainly way over priced for limited amenities.

It sounds as though a cozy cabin in the woods was not the best choice for your vacation rental and I'm very disappointed to read this review, as this is the first time I am hearing about any of these concerns. Statement regarding doors is patently untrue, there are functioning exits on each level, as well as multiple sliding deck doors. There is tape along the bottom of the door on lower level to prevent insects from entering during periods of heavy rain.
Microwave is stored in pantry due to limited counter space in kitchen - most guests elect to pull it out on the counter to use versus lying on the floor. Both Amazon Fire TVs (one on each level) are in working order and wifi signal is strong. Given the remote location there is no cable service but guests are able to log in to any of their streaming services. A DVD player with nice selection of DVDs is also available and in working order. Again, the remote nature of the cabin may have caused issues with your personal cell service - this is why we provide a land line in the home, but we have no control over your cell service area. Finally, I would argue that our pricing is very reasonable for a full 4 bedroom home for a party of 6 guests in Dane County, WI.
I'm very sorry that our place didn't meet your expectations, but would encourage you to communicate with hosts in the future to address your concerns during your stay as I very likely could have provided some solutions for you, had you reached out.

Wooded Escape
The house offered everything we were looking for to spend a quiet weekend up north. It was centrally located between our planned visits to New Glarus and Taliesin. The fireplace took away the chill of a rainy fall weekend and we enjoyed playing games and dinners looking out over the beautiful woods. Not too often do you get to spend a breakfast watching deer forage and foxes as well. Great time was had by all.
Great cabin in a quiet woods. Stayed for four days in early September. We were in Madison for the Ironman. About a 25 min drive to the venue. Cabin is exactly as described in the listing. We did not use grills or fireplace but bedrooms/bathrooms/living spaces were all clean and in good order.
Jason was very responsive to questions and gave me updates throughout the week.
It's very secluded and no yard so not the best place for younger children who might need outdoor time but perfect for adults who want to get away from the city.
I would definitely book this place again if we should decide to return to the area.
Plenty of space to spread out. Lovely location in the woods. If there had been snow, I’m north sure we could have found the driveway or made it up the hill to the house. Driveway obscured by leaves.
A few minor suggestions. Amount of tableware needs to be checked. Not enough for the group. The frying pans do not work on the induction stove. Game cabinets need straightening up and firestarters replenished.

Not clean, Not set up for 8, even though it sleeps 8.
The host is great at communicating. However, We were charged an extra $300 for 3 people over 4 (total of 7), supposedly for the extra cleaning. The house was not clean. Very dusty, not sure what was growing under the beds, crackers under the chair in the living room (a chair with no skirt so easy to see under), a 1/2 drank bottle of Atkins on the mantel, spider webs and dead flies in the windows. It was very dark in the kitchen, a few lights did not work. (Hosts solution was to get a lamp from the basement). The oven was filthy. There is a step down in the middle of the kitchen and right when you come in the front door. This was not explained in the description. I use a cane and did fall off it. In reading the comments it was mentioned, but the owner said at that time (4 years ago) that it was being taken care of. Also the dining room only has 6 chairs, even though the house sleeps 8. I inquired about this and was told there is other seating in the rest of the house. There were not any other chairs that could be used at the table. (We ended up having to take a folding chair along so that we could all eat together.) The kitchen is furnished from a thrift store I think. 6 of this size plate, 2 of that size, 2 wine glasses, 4 spoons, etc. Bathtub drains were very slow, so standing water when you shower. Upstairs rail overlooking the living room was loose. Comments in 2017,2018, & 2019 but were not responded to until 2020, so... but I wanted to give possible renters a heads up.

Hi Jann,
Sorry to hear that your experience was less than desirable. It sounds like perhaps a "cozy cabin in the woods" was not the appropriate venue for your large gathering.
For the record, when you notified us that the track lighting in the kitchen was not functioning, I did offer to have an electrician out - however, given you were there for only 3 days over a weekend, I could not guarantee that someone would be there before you departed, and offered an alternative solution to utilize a spare lamp from the basement in the meantime.
As far as the cobwebs and dust go, it can be quite difficult in a home with extremely high vaulted ceilings and two functioning (well used) fire places to completely eliminate, and often times dust settles after our cleaners have been through (especially in the fall season when bugs are looking to move indoors and fireplace use is more prevalent). I have definitely taken note of your other cleanliness concerns and will address with our cleaning staff. As you can see from our 8 years of prior reviews, this has not been something that has come up often as an issue, so it is somewhat surprising.
The extra guest fee is something that is part of our pricing structure to remain more affordable for smaller groups. Most guests understand there is additional work required following a party of 8 versus a party of 2.
I appreciate all of the feedback as it will help us improve for future guests.
