Overview

About the property

Get away from it all: Relax in a modern-rustic chalet set in serenity, surrounded by rolling hills and natural splendour. Built in 2014, this vacation home features a fully-equipped kitchen-dinette and living room whose windows look out over hay fields, wetlands and forest beyond. Cozy up next to a crackling fire in the wood stove, or in summer gather around a crackling bonfire in the fire pit. Plenty of firewood included. The master bedroom features a Queen bed. Second room has a twin bed that converts to a King. Third bedroom has bunk beds. Living room couch folds out into a bed to sleep two more guests. Chalet is airtight and very comfortable, and includes washer and dryer

In summer, dine in a screened-in porch; guests can also sleep in a small cabin about 100 metres away.

Enjoy hikes or cross-country skiing on extensive network of trails that wind through the mixed hardwood forest that spreads east from the cottage.

The village of Madoc is conveniently located four kilometres away.

Notes:
This chalet nestled in a hay field off Cooper Road, just north of Madoc in rural eastern Ontario, is the perfect haven for relaxation and peace. The owners sited their chalet far away from the road to offer maximum quiet and calm. This is a joyful place to cook, to rest, to read, to sit by the fire, and to go for hikes or cross-country ski in our extensive network of trails in the 20 acres of mixed hardwood forest that spread east from the main house. The main house sleeps six in three bedrooms and a foldout couch in the living room. Guests may also sleep in a cozy new cabin that does not have heat or electricity, which is a three minute walk from the main chalet. The chalet, built in 2014, is well appointed with comfortable beds and furniture. Exceptionally well-insulated, the home is always warm in winter and cool in summer.

We have booked many times and will continue to return. So relaxing, home away from home.

The beautiful Location of this lovely retreat has gifted us while attending our annual family reunions & seasonal get togethers over the past few years and we will continue to return as long as it's available. Our entire family loves this "home away from home". We would highly recomend for those who are vacationing in the area or for those who simply need to recharge from the hustle & bustle of life !

Great escape from the city

  • 5 of 5

First off, dealing with mimi was a treat. Responsive and super friendly.

Second, the place. Just beautiful. Quiet, clean and warm. The decor was beautiful, mimi had her neighbor start a fire in the wood oven so that the cottage was nice and toasty when we arrived.

The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was clean. The kitchen was also very clean and well stocked so that we could cook unti the cows came home.(there were no cows)

The property was large and we hiked around and enjoyed the nature and silence.

Honestly, I can't say enough about this property and the owner. Oh wait, I can. My dog loved exploring the property. She would run around sniffing everything.

Its a great place to enjoy each other's company and enjoy nature. We will definitely be returning

We enjoyed our midweek stay very much. Everything was perfect. All you need and more. Beautiful private setting surrounded by nature with the convenience of town 5 mins away. Home was clean and very comfortable. Host is very accommodating and wants you to feel at home. Hope to stay again sometime.

A well equipped, and beautifully designed cabin perfect for getaways

  • 5 of 5

We spent a weekend away from the city this winter and really enjoyed ourselves. The space was welcoming and well equipped, especially the kitchen which we thoroughly enjoyed. Our hosts were very helpful and we didn't have any issues finding out way around the place thanks to the detailed maps and thoughtful instructions left for us. Thanks again, we will definitely be back!

It was everything we expected – a beautiful spot!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a place to spend a getaway winter weekend snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and just relaxing and “Firefly Farm” absolutely fit the bill. It was exactly as its owners and the posting promised – a beautiful, new, clean and tastefully decorated countryside home that was perfect for what we were looking for. It was very cozy and equipped with everything needed for a great weekend. The owners have clearly put much love and thought into this spot and we were thrilled to have found it. Thank you Peter and Mimi for allowing us to enjoy a great weekend at your special country home, we hope to return.
