Looking for a rental for a long weekend or for a year? This magical estate is a dream rental for a group or family that is looking for a creative, funky home experience in the heart of Austin. From here you can walk or bike to about 1,000 great restaurants, coffee shops, venues, you name it, and come home after a day of adventure to cook a meal in the gourmet kitchen, have a cocktail in the clocktower, or soak in the landscaped jacuzzi. This house is an adventure in itself, right off of So. Congress (SoCo) in the heart of the city. The property is private, the house, an architectural fantasy, straight out of a C.S. Lewis novel. Spacious and beautiful, artistic and quirky, in an exceptional location, this unique house is a true gem.
Only a two minute walk to South Congress, and many Austin landmarks including The Continental Club, Guero's, Jo's Coffee Shop, Vespaio, Woodland Cafe, Perla, Hopdoddy's, Amy's Ice Cream, the list goes on and on. Walk the other direction to South 1st (less than a minute) to Bouldin Creek Coffeehouse, Torchy's Trailer Park, Elizabeth St. Cafe, Freddie's, Place, Thai Fresh ... Seriously, you could stay here a month, walk less than 8 minutes, have great food, and not eat at the same place twice. And this is not mentioning the many cute shops, boutiques, and awesome vintage clothing stores as well.
Downtown, Auditorium Shores, The Ladybird Lake hike and bike trail, the bats, and the Convention Center (about 2/3 of a mile) are easy to get to by foot (10-15 min.), bike (8 min), bus (5 min), or short pedi-cab (time depends on peddler's strength).
Amenities include a clean and functional hot tub, and landscaped yard with vegetables and fruit gardens, a gas barbeque, three stories of balconies (including one with a downtown view), sunny and private back deck, two spirited Live Oak Trees with Moroccan lanterns, a secret passageway, a spiral staircase into a clocktower, an office, A/V system with indoor and outdoor music, and a yoga room.
This house exudes charm. No two rooms are alike. Also, it leans more toward the quirky than traditional. For example, one of the bedrooms has two doors, one into a three-story clock-tower, though both require going through another of the bedrooms to get in and out. Another of the bedrooms has floor to ceiling curtains as one of its walls. Another of the bedrooms, has a balcony with a downtown view; and another has a pyramid ceiling. All in all, it's a very unique, inspiring and comfortable home.
Aside from the kitchen, living room, dining room and bathrooms, there are six additional rooms that serve several purposes. Three of the rooms are dedicated bedrooms with comfortable queen-sized beds. There are three other rooms that we use for offices and a yoga room, two of which we have converted into additional bedrooms when needed. There is also a nice, long and comfortable couch if extra sleeping space is required.
There are two bathrooms, including a high-ceiling shower with a window in one, and a clawfoot tub in the other. The kitchen is full of windows and light, with Thermador stove and appliances, and laundry room with washer and dryer. The living room is spacious and warm. Wifi is available.
This house is precious, and precious to us, so responsible guests only please. No pets.
If you are interested let's talk on the phone and see if it is a good fit. Thank you!
This house is amazing, I knew it the first time I saw it. Large, funky, interesting, crafty and in the perfect location to enjoy what Austin has to offer without needing to drive anywhere.
Plus it has a large nice jacuzzi in a private, landscaped yard.
We really loved this place. The house is unique, funky & fun. The owners were easy to communicate with and very accommodating. Five of us stayed here for work and the location was perfect. Great restaurants and coffee shops walkable from the house in either direction. The only challenge with a large group is that there is only 1 bathroom with a shower (the second has a tub). We made it work by pre-planning our shower times, but just something to think about if that is important. We would definitely stay here again and hope to be back next year!
This house is awesome! It's very inviting, but has a great charm and amazing character. From the inviting layout for entertain guests, to the hot tub and rooftop patio. This house has it all. The location is great too, so we could walk to many of the restaurants and it was only a short Uber ride to get downtown. This will be our number 1 spot to stay at when we come back to Austin. Thanks for everything Brian, you were a great host.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around how much fun this house was for ACL.
Upon first walking up to it through the large courtyard like entrance, into the gorgous living/dining/kitchen room, and through the unique bedroom and private areas, this house was like living in a dream. The public areas were spacious and comfortable for our group of ten (plus more when we had guests over). And the bedrooms provided plenty of privacy. The best parts of the house were the truly unique aspects though. These include the crazy clock tower leading up to the rooftop patio, the lofted office overlooking the kitchen, and my favorite, the Steinway piano in the living room, which got plenty of use during our stay. The house has unique lighting throughout which adds to its ambiance and the artwork is the icing on the cake. Couldn't have built a better house for ten friends to enjoy a music festival at. The owners, Brian and Abigail are very friendly, accommodating, and always a quick text away. We will definitely be looking to rent here again next ACL!
This house is very nice, cosy and has very artistic decorating. It is close to downtown in a calm neighborhood. Perfect for a long stay for a family of 6 persons or a small group.
Absolutely loved this house, the location w/in Austin and the owners. We had 10 people in from around the country, had a blast, did not need a car once, and absolutely loved this place (and of course Austin).
This house is absolutely lovely: spacious and full of personality! Close to downtown and was perfect to host my company (we were in 6, attending sxsw).
I'd recommend this any time, also because Brian and Abigail always answered immediately every question and made sure that we were comfortable with all the arrangements.
The Clock Tower it's a must view!

Please understand that there is a sweet cat that lives on the property. She is mostly outdoors, but does come in and out for food. Her name is Monkey and guests have all loved her.
