This place has become a home away from home - near family and so accommodating of a family that loves the outdoors, likes to cook, and that appreciates history and architecture and a home with a story. This place is so well appointed and welcoming and the hosts could not be better!
I grew up in the area and now live 5 hours away. The Cool Hollow House made it possible for my family to have its own space but still visit with extended family for the holidays. A well appointed kitchen allowed us to create some fabulous holiday brunches and the welcoming gathering spaces were just perfect for spending quality time together. We loved being right on the Antietam Creek as well… Would love to visit this place in the warmer weather!
If I could give this home and its host more than five stars, I would. We recently rented this property to host my mother’s 100th birthday celebration, and it provided the perfect backdrop for a milestone our family will never forget.Built in 1823, this home is a masterclass in preservation. It feels sturdy and timeless, yet it has been expertly upgraded with every modern comfort you could imagine. The house is incredibly spacious with plenty of rooms, making it ideal for a large gathering. As a host for elderly guests, I was particularly impressed by how safe everyone felt; the steps and railings are rock-solid.We enjoyed the best of both worlds—charming gas fireplaces that provided both warmth and a beautiful aesthetic, paired with modern plumbing and bright, thoughtful lighting throughout. The Kitchen was well-outfitted with ample counter space, high-quality utensils, and every gadget we needed to prepare a celebratory feast. The setting is nothing short of magical. The house sits on a massive lot with huge, ancient trees and a sprawling yard.We had breathtaking views and easy access to Antietam Creek, providing a serene "country" feel while being surprisingly close to grocery stores and retail shops. Our host was truly the "secret ingredient" to this successful weekend. Her communication was flawless, and she was incredibly flexible, adapting to our special requests with grace and ease. She takes immense pride in this home.
To call this home charming is an understatement. This 200 year old property takes you back in time, while having all the amenities of a modern home.
The property is amazing and you’ll be transported to simpler times relaxing by the river and watching fireflies.
We stayed for a business trip, but this home would be perfect for families or groups looking to step back in time.
The home is minutes from everything, but isolated enough to make you feel like you’re on vacation.
If you’re in the area, I’d absolutely recommend this home.
So, originally when booking this property I thought I had never been to the property prior however I used to go to many functions at this property decades ago, remember doing visiting the old forge decades ago by creek on a kayak. This was my first overnight stay and I wanted this Christmas to be as special as possible so all of our family members could come to visit, have fun, food, etc...however this may be my father's very last Christmas with us, so we wanted a rental house that was rich in history and this property just kept standing out to me no matter how many others I looked at. The host owners are awesome to work with. Wish I could rate them a 10 plus on here. While my nephew/nieces' family was visiting with us, they enjoyed learning about the property, the old forge and are thinking about renting it next spring/summer for their own family. I would recommend this property to anyone and everyone. I Loved and enjoyed being a house with old old farm doors and skeleton key holes like my Great Grandparents had that I grew up in about 1/2 the time as grandma was a walk away.
