The Space:
A wheelchair-accessible, dog-friendly room on the 2nd floor of the Grand Lodge at the base of Mt. Crested Butte — built for travelers who need step-free access and want to bring their dog.
➔ Accessibility: Wide doorways and hallway clearance, an accessible-height king bed with wide clearance, and a full accessible bathroom (grab rails for shower and toilet, roll-under sink, accessible-height toilet). Step-free to the room by elevator.
➔ Sleeping: An accessible-height king bed sleeps two; the couch is for lounging, not a bed.
➔ Kitchenette: Stove, mini fridge, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, and cookware — cook a simple meal in.
➔ Bathroom: One full accessible bathroom with a tub.
➔ Pets: Dogs are genuinely welcome, up to 2 pets max ($50 flat fee) — easy in and out for walks, with trails and town a short stroll away.
➔ Building Amenities: Indoor and outdoor heated pools, hot tub, gym, elevator, coin laundry, and a fireplace lobby.
3 Pros:
✔ One of very few rooms at the ski base that is both wheelchair accessible and pet-friendly — step-free to the lifts
✔ Indoor and outdoor heated pools plus a hot tub, with the free town shuttle steps away
✔ A 30-year repeat guest called it the cleanest, best-maintained unit in the building
2 Cons:
✗ The accessible bathroom has a clinical, roll-under layout — ideal if you need it, worth knowing if you don't
✗ Built in 1999, a 3-star building with dated finishes; no A/C and no in-unit washer/dryer (coin laundry on-site)
Guest Access:
You have the entire room to yourself, plus full access to the Grand Lodge's shared amenities: the indoor and outdoor heated pools, hot tub, gym, and fireplace lobby. The room is reached step-free by elevator, with wide doorways throughout. Check in yourself anytime with the keypad code — there's no front desk at the Grand Lodge, but we respond quickly by message. Your unit comes with free parking and easy in-and-out for walks with your dog. Shared amenities are operated by the building's HOA and can occasionally close for maintenance.
The Neighborhood:
The Grand Lodge sits at the base of Mt. Crested Butte, a short and mostly step-free walk from the Crested Butte Mountain Resort lifts, with the free town shuttle stop right next to the building. The surrounding base village has a coffee shop, restaurants, a convenience store, and rental outfitters at the doorstep, plus open ground nearby for dog walks. Historic downtown Crested Butte and its Elk Avenue — galleries, restaurants, and preserved Old West architecture — are about a seven-minute drive, with the free shuttle running between the mountain and town. The area is a year-round outdoor base: skiing and snowshoeing in winter; hiking, mountain biking, rafting, and wildflower season in summer. The Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC) is about a 45-minute drive.
Getting Around:
You don't need a car here — the lifts, coffee, restaurants, and a convenience store are all within a short, mostly step-free walk, and the free town shuttle stops right next to the building. The shuttle runs between the mountain base and historic downtown Crested Butte (about 7 minutes). If you do drive, your unit comes with free parking. The Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC) is about a 45-minute drive; Denver is roughly 4 hours.

We had a great time at the Grand Lodge with our dog. It’s a perfect location right at the base of the mountain and a quick 10 minute drive into town. The room was spacious and clean, and the pool and hot tub were lovely. Great place to stay any time of year for a trip to Crested Butte.

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you liked the room and location. I’ll check in with the building management about the elevator issues. Appreciate you letting me know!
We had a fantastic stay at this lovely 1 bed condo. We were so comfortable and the kitchenette with cooktop and microwave was perfect for prepping breakfast and dinner. There are also a couple of great places to eat a few minutes walk away in the resort plaza. The chairlifts are a 5 minute walk and there is complimentary ski check for for guests of this condo. The mountain has amazing terrain and high speed lifts. And the pool and hot tub were a great spot to relax at the end of a fantastic day on the hill. The hosts provided clear and regular communication prior to and during our stay ensuring that we were comfortable and gas everything that we needed. First class and highly recommended for your visit to the beautiful Crested Butte.

Reading reviews of other rooms in this building made me hesitant, but this 2nd floor room was so perfect!! It was quiet, very clean, check in was a breeze (they just hand you your room key like a hotel), and the view was good too! Being on the 2nd floor gets rid of a lot of the foot traffic noise other listings complained about. Zero complaints and we will return!

Sink was clogged and took two days to fix. No remote for bedroom TV. No maid service or trash service. Bedroom was at entry so hall noise all night long. Lamps were broken.

Hi Edward,
Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced during your stay. Noone else has complained about the TV remote, so we know it is there. We also haven't had any other issues with the lamps. This is also a VRBO privately owned unit in a condotel. So although it's in a hotel-like building, there is no maid service like there is in traditional hotels. We also provided trash instructions in your check-in guidebook. We also have record that the sink was fixed within 24 hours of being alerted.
