The house size and layout was perfect for 5 adults and 2 small children. Plenty of indoor space to spread out and the kitchen area was really large. Perfect front yard and deck areas for letting dogs out. Some repair work needed but it was still fun to fish and swim from the dock. Great vacation location!

Amazing!!

This house was fantastic! The location was great, and the option of the top deck for looking at stars was wonderful! My family loved out stay here and the dual kitchens helped with storage for meals and drinks.

Lake House

Nice comfortable house on a cove with easy access to larger body of water. The covered dock provided shade while also access to water views. The house itself was comfortable, however the door locks need attention, as does the air-flow downstairs. Otherwise, nice and clean and we enjoyed our week.

Great place!

Great house with plenty of views of the lake and easy access to the dock. AC worked great during the hot weather while we were there. Lots of good restaurants around. We would definitely stay again.

Location , location, location

We always stay on the lake the week after Christmas. This house is in an awesome location for where we fish. The only issue we had was that the house had minor cleanliness issues which we reported.

A Great Getaway

We had our older children in for Thanksgiving. This house gave us the perfect space to host them. With 2 kitchens, it made the whole cooking process easier. The property manager was very quick to respond/answer when I had any questions.

Fishing Tournament Stay

Myself and some of my friends from other states met up at this home for a fishing tournament. It was the perfect spot for us and the house was very clean and we had no issues whatsoever. We had to contact the host about a fuse blowing and they got right back to us and it was taken care of immediately. We plan to be back.

Great and Relaxing Stay on SML!

Great place to stay on SML. Excellent management and communication with booking. They answered all of our questions quickly and were very accomodating when able. Very roomy home with nice outdoor space, especially the 2-level dock. Conveinently located just above the Bridgewater bridge, but in a cove that doesn't have too much wake from passing boats. House was comfortable and great for our family Labor Day Weekend getaway. Our children loved hanging out near the dock tubing, paddleboarding, and swimming. We would stay at Happy Acres again!

Disappointed

Unfortunately the property is extremely run down and in need of serious work. Mold is a big issue.

Hi, we have passed your comments on to the homeowner who would like to share the following: We are disheartened and surprised by the feedback you provided. We have never had these issues before and are unable to confirm your claims as you provided no evidence. We use professional photography for the home, so the features you see on the listing are accurately advertised. The upstairs was remodeled in 2023 and the downstairs while not remodeled as recently is clean and not in disrepair at all. We have never experienced issues with mold in the rental. We investigated the home after we heard of this concern, and found no evidence of mold. Regardless, the home has been deep-cleaned in order to prevent any issues like this going forward. Additionally, we took all the recent reviews and guest feedback we got and made a plan for this winter to upgrade and respond to people's ideas. This weekend we plan on replacing almost all of the mattresses, installing lights on the dock, replacing the internet modem and router to make sure all the TVs work, and doing a deep clean on the furniture to remove any hair or odors left by guests' pets. We do all we can to make our homes the best possible stays, we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests. Thank you for your feedback.

The stay was beautiful… but we couldn’t watch any tv and no lights on the docks at night! We rented a boat for the weekend and couldn’t enjoy it after 6pm because the dock on the house didn’t have any light!
Response from VrboOwner on 20 Nov 2023
Hi Janell, we’re sorry to hear that your stay did not fully meet your expectations. We followed up with the owner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following: - Thanks for bringing these few issues to our attention. The TV's were inspected and found to be in good working order. The dock light is being repaired right away. We apologize for any inconvenience. - We encourage guests to reach out to their guest contact while they are in residence with any issues so that we have the opportunity to address any concerns quickly for a most comfortable stay. We truly go above and beyond and are confident that future guests will have excellent stays!

Vacation

We had a great time, just a few issues that needed fixing.1. The top dock needed some of the decking boards to be fastened down. They were sticking up and could cause someone to fall.2. In the upstairs master bedroom the split heat pump unit was working properly. But all things considered everything went well we were still very satisfied and we would recommend this place for anybody that like the lake life

uneven stairs, molding in odd place

Big negative was gravel road to location so won't rent again. Also outside stairs have different height levels above and below platform. This is not a good construction standard. Also, molding indoors from one room to another can be tripping hazard. Like Foose-ball table, but two men missing from center controls and no screws to attach them.

Great location and lovely home!

My husband and I stayed here recently and really enjoyed it! The location of the home is wonderful and in a quiet neighborhood with friendly neighbors. The cove is quiet but has great access to the lake. The double dock with the deck on top was perfect! The kids LOVED jumping off the top of the dock. We were sad to hear that they had an electrical issue at the time so we had no lights on the dock and the pump for the hose on the water slide did not work but the kids found they could just soak the slide and it still worked great! The multiple decks on the home had great views and easy access to the small fenced-in yard for our dog. The home is much bigger than the photos represent and has a TON of open space. You can tell the recently new owners have a great vision for the house and the work they have done to upgrade it is apparent. The kitchen was lovely and spacious and having breakfast on the dock was a favorite thing. The property manager communicated well and responded quickly with answers when we had questions.

Great Week on the Lake

Our party was four adults and two kids and there was plenty of room to spread out - we had a great time and spent a ton of time down on the water! We had plenty of room to dock our pontoon and bass boat. The interior of the house is clean, the upstairs is recently remodeled and it is nice. There is plenty of entertainment downstairs for the kids/everyone on down days.I think some of the previous reviews were a little exaggerated. A majority of SML was developed in the 80s and before then, it was small community fish camps (some of which you can still see) and summer homes. The water in the house is fine for drinking and bathing - no issues. Yes, it is a gravel but well maintained road to the house, like many roads in the area. Compared to a lot of homes on this lake, the steps and ramps to the dock were a breeze. If you have never stayed on Smith Mountain Lake, most homes have extremely steep grades and lots of stairs to get to the water's edge. There was no mold. The kitchen has everything you need. There are lights on the dock. We would rent again.Thank you for sharing your home!
Response from VrboOwner on 27 Jun 2024
From the owner: "Thank you for your review, Kevin! We are so glad you were able to enjoy time down on the water as that's our favorite place at the house, too! Great location

I am going to give an honest, practical review of this lake house. I loved the location and the dock was wonderful! The ramp going to the dock made it so easy. Getting from the top deck to the lower deck wasn't super easy if you have young kids or elderly people, but it is doable. Getting into the house was also a challenge carrying all groceries and things up to the top floor because there isn't any access to the main floor from the driveway, however, it really isnt terrible unless you have elderly people or young babies/toddlers. The house had lots of room, but: the AC did not keep it cool, it is very outdated as far as lighting goes. The kitchen is HUGE and there was one old little light in the middle and one over the sink. The beds in all rooms except the master were not that comfortable at all. I would recommend changing those mattresses. In one bedroom, the bed frame is on wheels, so it rolls every time you turn over. I would stay here again! I love the location and proximity to Bridgewater marina ( from the water). The cove is a deep cove which is nice because the water is cleaner! I just wanted to be practical and let people know about some things that made it more difficult, but not impossible to stay here. When going on vacation and paying all of that money, you want to be comfortable and at the least, feel like home. There are a few things that could make this better. But again, we spent 99% of our time outside, so the docks and water were great! The deck had 2 large picnic tables and a grill. The bottom covered porch was huge and shady! I dont mind that the house wasn't fancy! I Just need comfortable beds, AC (the temps were in the 90's for June) and lighting to see well!

Do not stay in this property

The pictures don't look as bad as the property really is. First off, getting to the house is a bit scary looking as you drive 2 miles down a dirt road that has all of these abandoned rv's, motor homes and low income housing. I would consider this area ghetto looking. Once you enter the property it has a terrible pet smell as well as moldy smelling. The place is dirty; toilets orange and not cleaned, floor are dirty. There was still pieces of confetti from someone previous. There are no curtains on slider door upstairs, tv did not work, had to go buy a light bulb for the hall bathroom which doesn't even have a light over the vanity, so it's hard to do your hair or makeup in their. The water smelled so bad that no one wanted to take a shower or wash their hair in it. We had to use bottled water to brush our teeth. The mattresses in the room with 2 double beds were so bad that you could not move because they were so sqeaky. I had to go downstairs in the bathroom to use the vanity so I could see but the electrical outlet in that bath does not work so it was useless. The exhaust fan in that bathroom is so disgusting with black mold all over it. I wouldn't even give this house 1 star if I had the option. Everyone was coughing and sneezing by the time we left from the moldy mildew smells. There is NO way that this house is rated exceptional. False ratings and review. WE had to stay 2 nights but we didn't want to come back in the evenings. Wasted my money
