About the property

Lovely, clean apt with amenities * parking pass * families & business travelers

The space is a newly refurbished English basement suite in the ground floor of our home, with a private entrance and private rear patio. Although we are fairly new to VRBO, we are experienced hosts and have excellent reviews on another platform. Great location, one block to Eastern Market Metro and short walk to the Capitol. Keypad entry for easy check-in. Amenities for business and leisure travelers, including coffee, tea, soap, shampoo/conditioner, wifi, washer/dryer, etc. Great neighborhood for kids. All bed linens and towels are provided. More details below.

Entry - There are a few steps down to enter the apartment. The front door has a keyless lock and the code is provided a few days before check-in.

Bedroom - The separate bedroom is located in the rear of the suite with queen size bed, closet, dresser, and nightstand. Plenty of pillows, extra sheets and comforters. There is a handheld garment steamer in the dresser, and an iron and ironing board in the closet. Access to the private patio, which is for your exclusive use, is through the bedroom.

Bathroom - Walk in shower (no bathtub). We provide guests with Avalon Organics lavender shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. We also have a hairdryer, and a small selection of other toiletries, such as hand soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, moisturizer, and razors. Plenty of towels. Please note, you access the bathroom through the bedroom.

Living room - Comfortable queen size sofa bed from Room and Board; wet bar (see description below); 32 inch television with Netflix, cable channels; small dining table and chairs; closet.

Wet bar - Please note that our suite does not have a full kitchen (no stove or oven), but we have a new small fridge, microwave, new toaster, dishwasher, new Nespresso VertuoLine coffee and espresso maker (with coffee pods provided - great coffee!), new DeLonghi electric kettle, french press, and plates/cups/glasses/silverware/etc. We have a gas grill in the backyard for your exclusive use. We will have a small selection of snacks and drinks waiting for you. And of course there are many great restaurants nearby!

Additional amenities - There is also a new washer and dryer in the suite, with detergent provided. Wifi available throughout the space. The space has separate air conditioning and heat, with remote control access from the unit. We have umbrellas you can borrow during your stay. And a yoga mat!

Back patio - You'll have exclusive access to the back patio that is furnished with a table and chairs and a gas grill.

The neighborhood - Our home is located in the heart of Capitol Hill. It is on a tree-lined street two blocks from the restaurants and shops of Barracks Row on 8th Street. It is a short walk to Eastern Market which has an outdoor farmer's market on weekends and Tuesdays. Restaurants on Pennsylvania Avenue are a few short blocks away. It is an easy walk to the US Capitol, Supreme Court and other government office buildings. We are one block from the Eastern Market Metro stop, and a very short ride on the train from the attractions on the National Mall including the Air and Space Museum, Natural History Museum, Washington Monument and other points of interest. If you'd like to bicycle, there is a Capitol Bikeshare rack located one block away at Eastern Market.

Parking - We can provide you with a parking pass that will allow you to park on the street.

For families - This is a great neighborhood for kids. There is a playground across the street, and another a few blocks away. There are many kid-friendly restaurants nearby. We have a pack & play with sheets for your use during your stay. We also have a few scooters and helmets. Netflix has a good selection of kids' programming.

Arrival/Check-In - We have a keyless lock, and will provide you with the code a few days before arrival. Check in is anytime after 3 pm, and check-out is by noon. If you are arriving early or leaving late, you may store your bags in our storage area. Please let us know when booking, and we'll make the arrangements.

Please note - We live upstairs with two young children. Although the kids are usually asleep by 8:30 pm, you will hear us upstairs in the mornings and early evenings during the week, and on the weekends during the day. We also have two cats upstairs but they are never in the suite. No large groups or parties. No smoking on the premises.

Excellent for a family of 4 and perfect location

Our family was very pleased with our Washington DC vacation in this unit. The owners communication was outstanding and made sure that everything was set before we arrived.

Some Positives:

1. Eastern Market subway station can be seen from the front door-very convenient.

2. 0.7 miles to Capital Building--we walked or jogged to and around the mall everyday.

3. The unit was very clean and loved the complimentary goodies (sparking water, chocolate, granola bars, coffee, etc.). The owners showed great attention to detail by adding little extra things (soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, and goodies)

4. I have 2 daughters and was never concerned with safety when walking around the area even at night. There is a police station 1 block away.

5. Excellent selection of restaurants within 10 minutes of walking with many having kid friendly menus and atmospheres

6. I was worried about finding parking near the unit but had absolutely no problem when arriving. I would recommend arriving before even rush hour to insure a close spot; however you can always move it closer the next morning when folks go to work.

Some Negatives:

1. Though is was not a problem for us since we had planned to eat out for dinner, but be aware that there is no stove or oven.

Awesome space and great location!

My family spent spring break exploring DC and were thrilled when we arrived and entered this flat. It is laid out perfect with plenty of room and had everything we needed (2 teenage boys even approved). We are big coffee and tea drinkers so it was nice to have it available, and my teens really enjoyed the Kind Bars (I don't think I got one). The location, wow! Great neighborhood, one block from Metro which we used daily, short walk to restaurants galore, short walk down to navy yard and ball park area which has even more resaurants, you never need to drive, catch a cab or even uber. Another great thing for me was plenty of close by areas to safely run in the mornings. Thanks for a great spring break!

Cozy apartment in great location!

Spent 2 nights here with our 4 year old. This was a perfect location---so close to great food, parks, markets, grocery store (Trader Joes!) and the metro. The apartment itself is cozy and has all the right amenities. I also appreciated the accessibility of the owners and felt that if we ever needed anything, it was a text or call away.

Comfortable, clean, easy access to the metro and had everything we needed!

We stayed here for a long weekend in DC with our daughter. It was perfect for three people and we appreciated the convenience of being close to the metro and Capitol Hill. The owner, Jim, was very helpful with accommodating our needs. The apartment had everything we needed, was up to date, very clean and comfortable. The neighborhood is beautiful and we felt very safe walking in the area. We would definitely stay here again.

Comfy and Convenient

Stayed here for a week, and couldn't have been happier. The flat itself is very comfortably furnished and set up, and I was particularly happy with the large dining table and kitchen area with a plethora of options with which to make coffee (along with the coffee) and a great washer and dryer. Everything is spotless and modern and the lack of "cooking facilities" wasn't an issue for me, and there is a huge microwave with which to reheat leftovers. The bedroom is roomy and has lots of closet and storage space, and the bed was very comfortable for me, despite the fact I am a fussy sleeper. Bathroom is reasonably large with all needed features including enough towels for an army and a well-stocked drawer of supplies. I was thrilled with the apartment's air conditioning as it was miserably hot and muggy outside, but wonderfully chill inside. (I didn't take advantage of the enclosed rear patio area or barbecue facilities because of the weather.) The location is splendid - less than two blocks to the Metro station and a number of buses. Also, close to a CVS, Trader Joe's and Starbucks, which I found very handy. Last, there are a large number of excellent dining choices within a 2 to 4 block range, and I felt very safe walking home late in the evening, though I did use my phone's flashlight to help me navigate the uneven brick and stone walkways. Jim was a pleasure to deal with, and was prompt to help when I had a query or two. I would gladly return here or recommend this spot to friends.

Excellent unit in perfect location

Unit is exactly as advertised. Very cute and comfortable and light. The location is excellent. Lots of restaurants and markets nearby, walking distance to Capitol and archives and a block from metro. I'd stay here again for sure. There were four of us, my husband and two daughters. Snug, but we enjoyed our family time in the unit.
