Overview

About the property

A darling little house on a 20 Acre Organic Coffee and Flower Farm.

This is a beautiful jewel of a house. It's all one level and close to shopping, activities such as hiking, biking, zip lines, farm tours, horseback riding, art school, dining and Haleakala National Park. Just an eight to ten minute drive to white sand beaches.

This 20-acre shade-grown coffee plantation borders a forest preserve and is completely private. A stream runs through the property year-round attracting a variety of wildlife. There are amazing panoramic ocean, jungle and mountain views and a seasonal waterfall view. Guests have the option of booking a personal tour of the farm and grounds which includes a short hike to see the ancient Hawaiian pictographs, an artesian spring and gives an overview where all the private trails, natural pools and picnic areas are. Reservations include full access to all the grounds and amenities on the farm. The cottage is located over a half mile from the main farmhouse and is completely private. It includes:

30 Mbps Wi-Fi, W/D and Detergent, Barbecue with Charcoal and Kiawe Wood provided, Refrigerator, Dishwasher, Range, Microwave, Juicer, Blender, Toaster Oven and Pour-Over and French Press Coffee equipment provided. There is a spacious shower with ocean view. Hair Dryer, Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash Provided. Fully furnished with King-sized bed with Queen Sofa Bed. Cable Smart TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime. Iron and Ironing Board. Beach Towels, Beach Chairs and Cooler Provided. Flower cutting, Fruit and Herb picking (seasonal) privileges included. Plenty of secure parking.

Close to shopping and North Shore beaches. A bag of fresh roasted Maliko Estate Coffee is provided as well as fruit (when available) and fresh flowers from the farm.

Optional (additional fee):

Historical/Jungle tour: 2 hours and includes an overview of all the trails on the private grounds, archeological sites, the history of the valley and the medicinal uses of the jungle plants. $75.00 per person.

Organic farm and pesticide free area for those with sensitivities. All one level for those with some mobility issues. Not wheelchair accessible though!

Guests have access to miles of private trails on the grounds of Maliko Estate Coffee where the cottage is located. Swimming in the year-round stream is a highlight. Great bird watching too!

Guests are greeted upon arrival, offered a jungle tour and are bid farewell on departure day too. Owners are nearby if they're needed and have advice and recommendations for Maui activities.

The historic paniolo town of Makawao is only 2 miles away. The paniolo are the Hawaiian cowboys and they still can be seen riding their horses or stopping by the local cantinas for a beer after riding the upcountry ranches. Great shopping and dining is found in Makawao, Haiku and nearby Paia. Makawao is considered one of the best art scenes in the nation.

You will definitely need a car. You won't need a four-wheel drive though. The roads are fine. There is bus transportation but not near the farm which is too rural and uncrowded for a bus stop.

The cabin comes equipped with a koi pond and two resident koi named Lilo and Stitch. Guests are asked to feed them. They'll remind you themselves if you forget!

Owner Sydney Smith is a designer by trade and also a farmer. She is the president of the Maui Coffee Association and a board member of the Maui County Ag Working Group.

A very special place that we won't soon forget.....

  • 5 of 5

"Twas a bit of serendipity that led us there, but our stay at the Maliko Retreat was one of the highlights of our recent trip to Maui.

We spent three enjoyable nights at the Coffee Cabin; it was delightful with glorious views over the forest and down to the ocean.

Our host, Sydney was extraordinary! It is obvious that she has a deep understanding and love of the land she and her husband have nurtured over many years. The personal tour of the property she gave us was amazing; seeing the coffee plantation, the pools, the flora and fauna was fascinating, and hearing Sydney explain and show us some of the the cultural and historical aspects of the area was spellbinding.

We so enjoyed the time we spent with Sydney and the wonderful conversations we had together. We are looking forward to our next visit with great anticipation.... Thank you Sydney for a very memorable stay! Lorna and Michael

THIS is Hawaii. Storybook location. Peace Quiet and Views

  • 5 of 5

We got to experience all of Maui in just three short days with an unmatched location. This is by far my top HomeAway/AirBnb experience. From the personalized touches in the cabin and detailed tour of the private grounds, we actually cancelled a couple of plans just to soak in the peace and view from the cabin. The history behind this area and Sydney’s love of it just engulfed you. We could go on and on just about the tour. The local food trucks (Greek truck-wow) and even fancy restaurant in Hailemaile (general store) were close and awesome. But we didn’t have to go far with all the produce on the property (we made the best guacamole from ONE avocado we found during our tour). We are already talking with our travel couple about joining us in the 2-bedroom cabin on our return trip. Amazing

A gem in the jungle!!

  • 5 of 5

Wow, what a gem in the jungle! The Maui beaches are great but you will be missing out if you do not go upcountry and spend a few days at the Coffee Cottage! What a relaxing, cute, well appointed hideaway! The views are beautiful and sitting out on the lanai with a cup of the plantations locally grown, right on the property, and roasted coffee in the morning will surely bring you relaxation. It will be waiting for you when you arrive. Oh and you can enjoy some fresh fruit from the property that Sydney the owner will have waiting for you in a bowl, and fresh eggs from her chickens....delish!! Everything was there that we needed for cooking and a restful sleep. The cottage was clean and welcoming. We kept the windows open at night so we could hear the water fountain from the koi pond. You will also be greeted by Lilo and stitch, the two koi who welcome you as you come up to the door. Sydney is such a gracious and kind host. She took us on a tour of the plantation and we saw so many interesting things. She is so knowledgeable. Sydney was always so helpful with any questions we had. Thank you to Sydney and her husband for your kindness and hospitality. We will be back!!
