We had the most amazing time here! The cottage was beautiful and very secluded. The bed was very comfortable, and the home was very well stocked. Hank was a wonderful host, even dropping off a fresh avocado from the property. We enjoyed the Lenai that surrounded the home, with coffee each morning. We already want to come back! Paradise in Haiku

Just returned from 10 days at Hanks cottage in Haiku.The place is so well appointed. Comfy king bed, nice furnishings, all you need in a kitchen and nice bathroom.A deck that wraps around the house, with a view over the trees out to the ocean. The place is surround with trees, hedges and flowering shrubs. Total privacy! Great retreat after a busy day. Hank was a great host!

Dream vacation in Paradise

This was our 7th time staying at Ho’okipa Bay cottage. We asked, can it be any better than the previous 6? Yes! It can! Hank has provided everything we needed…beautiful home, comfy bed, incredible views. We love going to the touristy areas during the day. Then returning home to the lanai, soaking tub, outdoor shower. What a way to re-energize after a long day. We will treasure our memories of Hank’s place and look forward to returning. Our happy pace! Joy and Tom

Delightful Cottage!

My husband and I enjoyed a week in this simply delightful cottage. After 4 days in a beautiful (but very busy!!!) Wailea resort, it was fantastic to check into this immaculately clean, quiet, private, well-stocked little cottage. In 15 years of traveling to Hawaii this was the most lovely, peaceful place we have ever stayed. Everything was consistent with the reviews we read prior to booking. The cottage was stocked with everything we needed, as well as a welcome basket of snacks and fruit, and there were clear instructions for those little things you need to know (how to turn on the range or the freezer ice maker, etc). The neighborhood is peaceful and there are groceries and great restaurants less than 5 minutes away. Upon booking, the owners were immediately communicative and helpful and provided guidance as to which special restaurants and outings needed to be booked well in advance, so that we were able to enjoy everything we wanted to do on Maui. (One tip: don’t book too much because you will find yourself simply wanting to sip a beverage and relax on the lanai.) We have found our go-to place on Maui and look forward to a return visit next year.

Maui oasis!!

We could not be happier with our stay, and although there is much to do and see in Maui, we found ourselves looking forward to making it back to this serene cottage. Appointed with everything we needed and a spectacular lanai to catch some rays, cool off in the outdoor shower, and enjoy a grilled meal to the song of birds, was a dream! Hank was a great host and very helpful and responsive. The property was well located, and the rest of the island was easy to get to. Would highly recommend a stay here as Maui is busy, but this secluded hideaway makes you feel like you are the only ones on the island!! We will definitely try to get back soon!! Thanks for the wonderful stay!!

Absolutely Perfect!!!

Hank's cottage was a perfect spot. We nicknamed it our treehouse as there were sliding screen doors on three sides that let you appreciate and enjoy the landscaping around the cottage which was provided natural beauty and privacy. Hank thought of everything and the cottage was very well provisioned and very clean. What was hinted in a few of the reviews but not fully understood until we explored the area is that there are two towns within 5 minutes of the house which provide some funky, far less touristy options and a grocery store so going into down doesn't need to be heading back to Piai. We liked Colleen's, The Public House and Casanova for dinners and met a lot of nice people.

Quiet and beautiful - enjoyable stay

We had a wonderful stay at this peaceful and beautiful house. The entire process was smooth, and the house is well furnished. We’ve come to really enjoy the Haiku area It’s rural enough for quiet but within 15 minutes to Kahului and several small towns, and quite handy for day trips to Hana or Haleakalā. If you want an escape from the tourist areas of Maui, this is a wonderful option.

A Piece of Heaven

We both felt so comfortable and at home in this lovely open concept accommodation. The owner and manager were very helpful. They both offered hand picked oranges, tangerines, bananas and lemons that grew on the property. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen was well appointed with everything one could need. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful and Well Equipped Guest House

The guest house is a wonderful traditional design, and its private location is surrounded with tropical landscaping and a view of the hills and ocean. Casual yet luxurious comfortable furnishings, and well supplied for beach trips. Hank is a great host. Aloha.

Wow!!

We absolutely LOVED staying here. When we arrived our breath was taken away - not only from the sunset view, but from the cleanliness and attention to detail taken for the cottage. Everything was beautiful - from the fresh fruit and snacks greeting us on arrival, to the immaculate furnishings and build of the cottage. The photos definitely don't to it justice. It was easily our favourite accommodation and location we stayed in. Hank, your host, is incredibly accommodating and quick to respond to our questions and messages. The grounds of the property are beautiful too - and make for a good stroll with a coffee in hand. We both wished we had more time at this wonderful cottage, and loved the location in Haiku - close to upcountry and close to the beach. We will be back! Thanks Hank!

Upcountry retreat

Hawaii Anniversary Trip

This house was one of my best finds on VRBO since and I have been using the services (along with other timeshares I have used before VRBO). If you want a quiet out away place away from the giant resorts this is your place. Oh, and I did I say you are within an hour of anywhere from this place. 10 to 15 min.to the Twin Falls on the Hana hwy and 10 to 15 min from Paia. Around 30 min to the airport. Loved this place and yes does have a view of the shore. The stars at night and the soaker tub were great. Hope to come back this place soon. The host was really nice and ask to try his homegrown short bananas the best I have had.

Absolute serenity

Beyond perfect. Did I enjoy falling asleep to the lovely sounds outside our cottage or waking to those same sounds in the morning. We slept like rocks. The king size bed was delicious. Had breakfast on the deck with our friendly little gecko every morning. Hanks cottage is everything and more. The view is spectacular as is the lush foliage beautifully maintained. Perfectly located. Great restaurants nearby. Our intention was to feel like we were living in Hawaii. Mission accomplished Can’t wait to return.

Rekindling the flame

My husband and I stayed at the cottage during our (much needed ) getaway from the kids. The host has thought through every detail of a couples trip. We had fresh flowers throughout the house, a welcome basket of fruit and healthy snacks, detailed directions to local restaurants and beaches. The outdoor soaking tub was a nightly ritual that allowed us to watch shooting stars. The open panoramic sliding doors and vaulted ceilings made it feel as if we were sleeping in the open air. The breeze was filled with the aroma of the tropical gardens all around. The location was also perfect . You could drive into the nearby towns and explore or across the island to west Maui in an hour. Then at the end of the day, retreat to a private paradise.

I live in Haiku on Magical Maui. I'm on the verdant, lush, gorgeous North Shore...not in the crowded tourist areas. I've lived in the islands over 40 years and 25 of them on Maui. I love Haiku because it feels like country, yet we are only 5-10 minutes away to great restaurants, art gallerias and boutique shopping. All properties around are a minimum of 2 acres so there is seclusion and privacy. I love to garden and enjoy all of the tropical plants that have been planted and lovingly cared for. Guests enjoy the exotic, tropical plantings with vibrant flowers everywhere. Some call it a tropical oasis. There is also a huge organic veggie garden that I love to share with guests, along with all kinds of citrus fruits and bananas. Guests come from all over the world and enjoy the relaxing ambiance that the property provides. I look forward to meeting you sometime too.

Cottage guests love Haiku. They love the seclusion and privacy. Many guests have stayed at the high end hotels and condos and prefer the cottage because it is so comfortable and located on a spectacular piece of Maui real estate. We are in the country, but only a 5-10 minute ride to great restaurants, art galleries and boutique shopping and the beach.
