The Cloudy Bay

Embrace the salty air and sub-tropical climate of Madeira during your seaside stay with a vast ocean view in a renovated apartment with designer flair immersed in the most exclusive strip of the island’s picturesque coastline. Spacious, luminous, cozy, and convenient all capture the vibe awaiting guests. The eco-minded enjoy knowing the environmental impact of their stay here is minimized.

This modern apartment is fully equipped with open kitchen, dining, and living spaces. Floor to ceiling windows pour onto an ocean view terrace. Centrepiece to the dining-living area with sea views is a glass fireplace underneath a revolving flat screen Tv with a wide range of international channels. The kitchen is furnished with dishwasher, Nespresso coffee machine, and washing machine.

There are 3 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms with individual balconies. 1 bedroom with double bed and en-suite bathroom, 2 bedrooms with 2 single beds (or 1 double) and 1 bedroom with 2 single beds serviced by 2 other bathrooms, 1 with walk-in shower and 1 with shower-bath, including bathtub. Three of these bedrooms have balconies , and should you wish there is 3 fans stored in the bedroom closets.

The living room area opens onto a terrace. This balcony invites guests to enjoy the magnificent ocean views and breathtaking sunsets while lounging or dining. A large, shared swimming pool and separate children’s pool framed by well-kept gardens at ground level offer cliff views out over the sounds of crashing surf and crystal-clear seawater below.

Rental includes private access to the apartment and secure garage parking. There is a lift to the apartment and underground garage with room for 1 full size or 2 compact vehicles. Note there are some steps at the building entryway and inside the hall.

There is no private residential building on the seaside so close to town. The apartment is located within walking distance of the city centre and with frequent local bus service - including a nearby stop of the Aerobus to and from the airport.

No car needed for some guests. Bicycles can be rented for mostly level rides along parts of the main Estrada Monumental into town or out to the black sandy beach of Praia Formosa. A taxi stop and car rental agencies in the surrounding streets can transport you to all points of interest on the island. But do-it-yourselfers are wise to book a car well in advance of the visit and retrieve it at the airport to reduce the cost.

The apartment is nestled 15 km away from the airport and 4 km away from the motorway Vr1 in a resort area at the waterfront. Beaches, restaurants, and bars are no more than a 5 min. walk.

This privileged area known as Lido is serviced by supermarkets, bakeries, tour operators and ATMs. Below our poolside gardens there is a public park with safe and easy access to platforms used by swimmers and sunbathers at no cost. Facilities at swim clubs and at a few surrounding hotels are also at your disposal for a small fee.
Funchal’s charming downtown is only 30-minutes-walk eastward on a mosaic sidewalk past neighbouring 5-star hotels, the casino, restaurants, and boutique shops.
Stroll westward for 20 minutes of sea views along the cliff-side promenade to arrive at the Madeira Magic Gym and nearby Forum Shopping Centre complete with cinema. Just 10 minutes further walk leads to a short tunnel through the volcanic cliff-side delivering you to Formosa beach. Walkers continue to Câmara de Lobos.

Coastal beauty surrounds our apt. Lush mountains rise behind it. Activities include sightseeing, bird watching, golf, walking, trekking, mountain climbing/biking, 4x4 jeep touring, canyoning, kayaking, Sup, Scuba, snorkeling, and other water sports.
To reduce the environmental impact of your stay we contribute to Sustainable Travel International. We offset 100% of the carbon emissions produced by responsible use of electricity & gas in the apt. Our fireplace is available to guests for an additional fee due to this and Europe's energy crisis. Guests staying in the middle of winter may opt for fireplace use. It can restore a comfortable temperature to the common living space on the rare, cooler evening. A low setting can maintain the warmth before turning it off for the night.

You must also respect our house rules and/or condominium rules, as well as the articles defined by Portuguese law. The apartment is No Smoking, no party and pets are not allowed.
