A short stroll will take you to an array of lively waterfront tavernas serving fresh local seafood and a pretty beach. Minoan ruins make it an archaeological site of some significance yet is often a quiet spot to explore. Mochlos is an area of natural beauty, relatively unknown to tourists. Leaving the main thoroughfare connecting Heraklion to the east, a winding road transports you down to the coast and Mochlos. The kilometre readings given in these directions (shown in brackets) are only for guidance and may not be exact. We suggest that before you set off, you acquaint yourselves with the way your odometer works. In most cars, it is electronic. To reset most of these models, you need to press the button until the reading flashes for some time and then becomes zero. Please take care driving on these roads. FROM HERAKLION AIRPORT - approximately 1hr 30m Step 1 After you have collected your car at Heraklion Airport, make your way from the Departure area to the traffic lights (at this crossroad the Terminal buildings should be behind you, or on your left). Follow this road and head under the bridge following signs for “Agios Nikolaos”. The road bends sharply round to the left and you join the main National Highway. Follow signs direction “Agios Nikolaos or “Ierapetra”. NB. You may meet some road works - just continue following the same signs as previously mentioned. As long as you follow the signs for “Agios Nikolaos” you will be fine. Continue along the highway to Agios Nikolaos. Step 2 Continue on this road for some time (50 mins). You will eventually pass a Shell/Peugeot/Toyota garage on your right and a bit further on, two further petrol stations one on each side of the road. You will reach a set of traffic lights, which are on the outskirts of Agios Nikolaos. Turn right at these traffic lights following the signs for Ierapetra. Step 3 Follow this road for approximately 12kms and you will enter Istro(n) Village which has a BP petrol station on the right, and a number of cafes, shops and ATM. Exit Istro and follow the road signage for Sitia (Siteia). After 7kms you will come to the village of Pacheia Ammos, then Kavousi and head straight on for Mochlos. Step 4 Approximately 6 kms after Kavousi you will take a left hand turn onto the road that leads to Mochlos. You will follow that road for 4.1 kms. Turn left following the next sign for Mohlos. You will see signs for Parking, follow these signs. On your way to the parking, at the end of the road, you will see Mochlos Waterside. Turn left at the end of this road, follow the waterside road, the public parking is on your left. As you leave the parking on foot follow the waterfront road to the right passing BAR RAKI café. Mochlos Waterside is on your left opposite a small church. Welcome to Mochlos Waterside!
