The good: Our family of 12 had a great time visiting the Smokeys. There were decks for days and the views were five stars. We saw bears on three separate occasions so that was pretty awesome. We also got plenty of use out of the hot tubs, so no complaints there! The bad: We knew we were booking a cabin, not the Four Seasons, however, with how much we paid I was very with disappointed several items inside the home. The pool table was missing 3 balls. The dishwasher only utilized the soap tab every third wash or so. The linens on the beds were ridiculously old and worn down. I don't need Egyptian linen, but maybe a trip to Target, Home Goods, or Amazon, every year or two to refresh would be nice when you're charging as much as you do. What really irked me the most, though, was although the house is billed as accommodating 16, the pots, pans and bowls in the kitchen do not reflect that. We made spaghetti one night and I had to boil 3 boxes of pasta one-by-one because there was no large stock pot. And then I had to mix and serve the pasta on a deep cookie sheet because there was only one-biggish plastic bowl but we had already made a salad in it. However, there is a drawer full of lids, so at one point the kitchen must have been fully stocked. It's clear that no one - the owner nor the rental agency - has bothered to take inventory of the kitchen in several years. Also, the kitchen lacks basic starter spices such as salt, pepper, and olive oil, that you'll typically find at rental properties, so you'll need to bring those along with any large pots and pans if you plan to do any sort of cooking. FYI the house is about 20 minutes from town so it takes a while just to to get ANYWHERE, but we sort of knew that going in and were never in a hurry. You just need to plan accordingly. In spite of my complaints about the house we had a great time! We went whitewater rafting on the Upper Pigeon River through SMO rafting, booked a couple of pontoon boats and took the kids tubing on Douglas Lake via Smoky Mountain H2O Sports, went ziplining at Anakeesta in Gatlinburg, and did some hiking in Smoky Mountain National Park. Also highly recommend the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster (kids and adults loved it). It's only about 20 minutes from the house AND there's a Groupon :)
