Donner Lake: 2 min. drive or 10 min walk
Sugar Bowl & Boreal: 15 min drive
Truckee: 10 min. drive
On the street level you'll find 2 bedrooms with queen beds and large closets with built in storage, a full bathroom with heated floor, shower over tub, and large laundry room.
Up the stairs is a large open space with the living room, dining area and kitchen, as well as a half bath. There's a deck & lake views from the entire main floor, a large Weber 3 burner BBQ just out the door, and around the corner there's a private backyard with a picnic bench and umbrella, and room for yard games such as corn hole. The primary bedroom is also on the main floor, with a patio door onto the front deck and a luxurious en suite bathroom with heated floor & jacuzzi tub.
On the top floor there's a loft area overlooking the living room. Down the hall and through the door is a large bonus room with the best views. This bonus room is like a small studio with a queen bed, a couch, pivoting TV, sit/stand desk, full bath, well appointed kitchenette, and a table for eating or playing games. Plenty of room for extras. Great lake views from this room!
Garage is available for storage of belongings / equipment you may bring such as coolers, bikes, golf clubs, etc., and space for 1 vehicle.
After a short walk down the street you'll find Donner Lake's 37 public piers - first come first serve. And on each end of the lake you'll find more public beach access (more info about lake amenities in the Neighborhood section).
Classic Truckee neighborhood on the north side of Donner Lake. The lake is just down the hill from the house (10 minute walk, 2 minute drive), with 3 public beaches and the entire north side is lined with public piers. We have incredible sunsets year round and folks in the area regularly find a pier in the evenings to watch sun go down.
We're the first exit off highway 80 when you come into Truckee from the Sacramento/Bay Area, which can save a great deal of time in traffic. And we're the last exit before you head home, so you never have to backtrack after a day on the mountain.
There's also a great brunch spot, pub, small market and a local creamery within a few minutes drive!
SUMMER:
- The Donner State Park is on the East End. This place is a beautiful gem and tucked out of the wind, plus we have a season pass for parking hanging in the pantry for your use. Many hiking trails begin there, there's sandy beaches, picnic tables, bath and shower facilities, boat, canoe, kayak and jet ski rentals too.
- Across from the bottom of James St (our access street) is the Shoreline Park, where the kayak and canoe are tied up at the water's edge. This cute little park has a small picnic area, beach and small (walk down) boat launch.
- And the west end beach has picnic tables and huge sandy beaches. A nominal day use fee to get in there.
- Easy boat access, with the public boat ramp a few minutes from the house. The Donner State Park is on the East End.
WINTER:
- We are centrally located with easy access to the ski resorts in the area. Sugar Bowl & Boreal are the closest at just ~15 minutes away (and against the usual flow of traffic). Palisades, Alpine and North Star are about ~25 minutes.
We can accommodate 5 cars - parking for 1 in the garage and another 3-4 in the driveway depending on vehicle size.
This neighborhood is located in the narrow strip of land between Interstate 80 and the shoreline of Donner Lake. The noise from the trucks and traffic can be noticed most in the back yard but the house is exceptionally well insulated from the sound.
Our neighbors are full time residents and we need to be respectful of them. We also need to adhere to the Town of Truckee's requirements for short term property rentals which are outlined below. (Note, we added the one about no shoes in our house:-) Please confirm you’re OK with the rules before your stay. Feel free to reach out to Lori with any questions.
- Quiet Hours: Quiet hours are required between 10pm and 7am everyday of the week. This includes the area by the hot-tub, BBQ, backyard, garage or balcony. Please keep the sliding doors and windows closed if there is any noise coming from the inside of the house. No parties or events. No smoking, vaping, e‑cigarettes inside or outside of the house.
- Parking in the driveway is required (in addition to the 1 spot in the garage.) No parking is permitted on the street or in an unpaved area.
- The maximum occupancy is 8 guests. No more than two people per bedroom plus two additional people are permitted, excluding children under thirteen.
- Please help keep our home clean and remove all shoes in the mud room before entering.
- Both guests and property owners may be cited and fined for non-compliance, with citations up to $1,500 per day for the first violation, up to $3,000 per day for the second violation, and $5,000 per day for each additional violation.
- Trash: We have important requirements about garbage as we are in bear country.
- ‘Regular’ Trash: Use the white garbage bags with the kitchen trash bins. When it’s full, please make sure you tightly secure the trash bag and take it to the bear box
- Recyclables: You can place your clean recyclables in the blue trash bags. Please tightly secure the bags and place them NEXT TO the receptacle bin in the bear box.
- Bear Bin Summary:
- Located under the porch to the left of the garage door.
- Monday is the trash pick up day from the bear box. Please do not park in front of the bear box on Mondays.
- Place the tightly closed white bags of trash in the garbage can in the bear box. The garbage company charges extra for white trash bags that are NOT in the garbage can.
- Place the tightly closed blue garbage bags with clean recycling NEXT TO the garbage can.
- The bear bin must be securely shut.
- If it is snowing a bit, you may need to shovel a bit to access it.
- Excess Garbage: Please do NOT stuff the bear box with excess garbage. Please leave your excess garbage in the garbage can in the garage and put the lid on it.
- Outside: Because we are in bear country, please do not leave any trash anywhere outside including the balcony on any day during your stay or at the end of your stay.
