Welcome to a cozy cottage just right for a Lake Huron getaway.

This airy and bright cottage is the third house from the lake and just a short walk to a secluded neighborhood beach.

After time spent in or by the water or lounging on the cottage's wraparound deck with its peek-a-boo view of the lake, you might drive just two miles north to downtown Lexington and park you vehicle only once to enjoy shopping on Huron Street, ice cream, restaurants (pizza to Mich-Mex to burgers to sushi), and seasonal waterfront events at Tierney Park and Lexington State Harbor. There you'll find a boat launch and marina, a public beach, picnic tables, a playground, and a walkable path along the breakwater. Add to all the above a laundromat, a pharmacy, grocery stores, and a theater for live performances, all within walking distance of each other.

The cottage has one bedroom, one bathroom, a sitting room, and a kitchen. The bedroom has a memory-foam queen mattress, a ceiling fan, a large closet, and windows with blackout curtains.

In the sitting room there's a cot-sized (28 x 76 inches inches) daybed, also with a memory foam mattress.
The cottage has Wifi , but no cable, dish, or live TV, so you'll need your own Roku to stream entertainment or gaming from your accounts on a small, but big enough, TV.
The kitchen too has a ceiling fan, along with a refrigerator-freezer, a two-burner ceramic cooktop, and a microwave, toaster oven, electric kettle, blender, and coffeemaker.

The full bathroom has a shower and a bathtub. An on-demand water heater means you will have plenty of hot water.

There are an outdoor table and chairs in the back yard, under a shady maple tree, along with a Weber charcoal-burning combination grill/prep table on wheels. Make some s'mores as you enjoy a fire in the nearby fire pit. We'll supply a bundle of wood for one campfire.

The cottage is not wheelchair accessible. There are three steps with no handrails up to the deck, a small step into the cottage, one step up from the entry hall to the kitchen, and also one step up from the entry hall to the bedroom. The stairway down to the beach has handrails and requires careful footwork.

The neighborhood is quiet and friendly, with well-maintained, short, one-lane dead-end unpaved roads that invite safe walking. Your host lives a few houses away, on the same road as the cottage.

No parties or large gatherings are allowed on the cottage property, except for family get-togethers over holiday weekends, and even they are rare in the neighborhood. Quiet hours at the cottage are from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

The neighbors on both sides of the cottage are dog owners, as are most of the neighbors. You'll probably see your host and her dog, Jack, often out on a walk.

Dog policy for the cottage:
- One dog under 90 pounds or two dogs under 30 pounds each are permitted.
- There is a $25 per day fee per dog. PLEASE TRY TO BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR DOG(S)/CAT(S) AS TRAVELER(S) WHEN MAKING YOUR RESERVATION SO THAT VRBO ADDS THE PET FEE TO YOUR QUOTE AUTOMATICALLY.
- Per Michigan law, all dogs must be secured or leashed when on the property, and they must be on leash whenever they are outside the property.
- Dogs cannot continuously or extensively whine, bark, yelp or howl, especially during quiet hours.
- On and off the property, dogs' owners will be responsible for cleaning up all their dog’s poop, double bagging it, and ultimately placing the bag in a covered outdoor trash can.
- Summer rules for dogs on the beach will be available at the cottage and in June through September must be read and initialed by the dog's owner(s) ASAP after arrival.


THINGS TO DO AND SEE:

The very popular Bunny’s Frozen Custard is a must from June through September and is an easy six-minute walk from the cottage. In addition to a large menu of frozen custard cones, goodies, and other yummies, Bunny has a lovely garden with seating at tables on the lawn as well as under cover. Well-behaved short-leashed dogs are welcome. at Bunny's.

Kids? They love the swinging bridge and its adjacent park in Croswell, six miles (11 minutes) west of Lexington (turn west at the downtown stoplight). On your way to Croswell, 3 North Vines Winery and its open-air tasting room is a fun way to spend the afternoon; kids will enjoy it as well. 3 North also has a downtown Lexington taphouse and eatery with a casual salad-sandwich menu, and outdoor seating in summer.

About 12 minutes south, Lakeport State Park offers camping, as well as a separate day-use area 4 minutes away with a public beach, volleyball courts, and picnic areas. On-leash dogs are welcome. On your way back to the cottage, stop at Pepperoni Cow for a pizza-to-go and delicious ice cream from a large selection of flavors.

In spring, if you get up early to watch an often-spectacular sunrise over Lake Huron, you'll be greeted by a dawn chorus of songbirds. And maybe in the evening you'll spread a blanket on the grass above the beach, or on the beach itself, to see the full moon rise, seemingly out of the lake. Stargazing is enchanting no matter what the season. Summer brings a bright array of wildflowers into bloom in surprising places. And in autumn, the trees along the bluff above the beach turn amazing colors.
