Guest Access:
This freestanding guesthouse in a garden setting is for your exclusive use. It’s on the same property as an historic main residence, ‘Duke's Cottage’, an 1840 renovated sandstone home. ‘Duke’s Cottage’ is one of the oldest homes on the Balmain Peninsula and is named after its first custodian, Captain Robert Duke, a whaler and entrepreneur.
Your cottage and the main house share a street entrance and garden path, and you’ll have your own secluded garden space.
The Neighborhood:
Balmain East is an historical pocket of Sydney that’s evolved into a stylish village enclave renowned for its pub, café and shopping culture. It feels like a country town yet is about 4km from the CBD. Its high street, Darling Street, boasts many restaurants, day spas and boutiques, continuing east to an uninterrupted view of Sydney Harbour and the city skyline.
Throughout the leafy Balmain peninsula, sandstone buildings and terrace houses dot the streets. Parks are scattered throughout, including large foreshore reserves such as Propeller Park, which is a 2-minute walk away. Balmain East Ferry Wharf provides easy access to the harbour and Sydney CBD.
Balmain East is home to many historic hotels, including the London Hotel and East Village Hotel Balmain, which is a 5-minute walk from your guesthouse. Nearby is The Fenwick, a fine-dining restaurant by the wharf in an 1880s sandstone building that was once a tugboat store. We recommend Euphoria for brunch or lunch, which is also ‘just up the road’.
We acknowledge that this land area traditionally belonged to the Gadigal and Wangal peoples of the Eora nation.
