Our secluded, very quiet and private two bedroom cabin with loft features a bug-free screened-in porch on its large deck. The cabin overlooks peaceul Sandy Pond, inhabited by bald eagles, loons, and herons. Watch beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and swim, fish and kayak from our dock. We're close to coastal Belfast, Unity, MOFGA (annual Common Ground Fair), Waterville, Acadia and Camden. Eat at Erin French's The Lost Kitchen farm-to-table restaurant, visit the Amish, hike the Hills to Sea Trail and pet an Alpaca on a nearby farm. Our cabin sits on a small peninsula jutting out into Sandy pond. We are conveniently located between Waterville in Central Maine and Belfast on the coast, each a short half hour away. We are on the same pond as Freedom's gourmet restaurant, "The Lost Kitchen," located in the restored Freedom Mill. Close by is the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) in Unity, Unity College, and the Amish Country Store. The cabin is a perfect base for visiting the Common Ground Fair and Windsor Fair. You can get to Liberty Graphics and the classic Liberty Tools in about twenty minutes. Best of all, the secluded lake is just steps away and usually you will find only birds once you are on the water. Bald Eagles nest a few hundred yards from the cabin and are seen almost daily. Loons, kingfishers, red-winged blackbirds, and fly catchers are common. During the fall Canadian geese visit as do a number of ducks and herons. The pond is stocked for fishing and the swimming in summer is wonderful. It is conveniently located for day trips to the coast, including north to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, and south to Camden, Rockport, Rockland, and Boothbay Harbor. The cabin is available only May through October. The cabin has a complete kitchen, washer and dryer, 2 queen beds and a cot (in loft). It is heated in the Fall either by the wood stove or electric wall heaters. There are beautiful spots to watch the sunset or sunrise. When there's a full moon, the pond is magic. The cabin has a private dock with a double and 2 single pond kayaks included for your paddling pleasure. The perfect place for getting away, relaxing and recharging, and exploring central Maine. There are great hiking trails very close by, and the historic Mill at Freedom Falls on the north end of the lake is a must see.

We loved our short stay here. It is a beautiful place with lots of trees, right on a pond. Great accommodations and friendly service. Next time we will stay longer!
We first stayed at this cabin several years ago and returned for a second time this August. The stay was great (as was our first stay) in all aspects, including the cabin and lake, as well as the nearby museums, restaurants, and hiking trials. Hopefully, we will have a chance to return again next year.
We loved our time here. The house itself is comfortable and well appointed. The setting is private and quiet. The pond is lovely and the kayaks were much used and appreciated. We’re already planning our return!

Thank you for such a wonderful stay at your cozy cabin in such a beautiful, quiet, secluded spot.
We had an amazing time kayaking, fishing and most importantly, relaxing.
Fishing for us was amazing, We caught all kinds of fish. We mostly caught largemouth bass(what we were fishing for) but was also plesently surprised at catching some pickerel, sunfish, and some yellow perch.
We were able to witness a hawk dive and catch fish in the mornings, see and hear the loons both morning and night, and watch the bald eagle soar over the pond. It was truly an amazing experience and stay. We would love to return again!
Thank you so much!
Cozy cabin is accurately named- cozy and calm. The lake is so beautiful and nature has many ways to show off! Close enough for day trips to all the sights, perfect seclusion to which to return!
Be prepared!
No traffic or noise, so quiet. Buried deep into the woods this community is quiet and the cabin has that rustic feel to it which makes the trip all worth it. The lake is visible from the huge deck and is few steps from the cabin. Everything you should need is in the cabin, fridge is empty so bring what you need or want. Showers are hot, towels and linen are provided.
Just show up and let nature handle the rest, you shouldn't be disappointed.
As a native Mainer who now lives "away", I consider this cabin among the hidden gems of Maine vacation rentals. Nestled on a quiet pond, this cabin is really a quintessential slice of rustic Maine living. From the décor of the cabin, the trees, and the availability of kayaks to explore the surrounding areas this cabin over-delivered on the description.
Our hosts were in communication about our stay from beginning to end, and answered all of our questions and more. They also had a well-curated binder of local attractions, stores, shops, and recreational areas to help us find additional fun things to do on our way to our next Maine stop.

Why they chose this property
You are about to discover one of the best fresh water lakes in central Maine. We discovered Freedom, Maine in the 70s when we drove from Boston to Freedom for a weekend getaway. It was fall foliage time on Sandy Pond in Freedom and we had never seen a more beautiful place – the loons, the intense colors, the breathtaking views, the privacy, the wildlife. The rest is history. We fell in love, bought land nearby in Unity, built our dream house and came every summer. We raised our 3 kids on the pond where they learned to swim in its warm waters. After many years, one of the few cabins came up for sale and we purchased it from the original owners the same day. The back story to the cabins also endeared us to the location. All the original owners were friends who wanted to build a vacation community of friends. In that spirit, they chose to build similar cabins with shared shorelines along a private road that runs down a small peninsula surrounded by water on both sides.
