About Rodney Westlake
The Westlake family has been in Eagle Harbor for 5 generations. My great-grandfather, J.C. Westlake, purchased our family home in 1946. My father, Tom, attended the one-room schoolhouse in Eagle Harbor and our family has lived in Eagle Harbor and managed rentals every year since. I, Rodney, grew up spending entire summers in Eagle Harbor - known to us kids in town as paradise. It has not been difficult to instill that same love for Eagle Harbor and the entire Keweenaw Peninsula in our children, Lucy and Jack (J.C.).
Rodney Westlake purchased this Cottage in 1995
Why Rodney Westlake chose Eagle Harbor
There is no better location in town than the lighthouse ridge overlooking the harbor. From our cottage you can take a two minute walk to the lighthouse overlook on Lake Superior and a one minute walk down the sand dune to the Eagle Harbor sand beach (best on the north shore). Everything in town is walking distance from our location and you never have to share a busy road or highway.
What makes this Cottage unique
The best part about the Hilltop cottage is the view from the front porch/main room. Facing south and overlooking the Harbor, the views are incredible all year long, but especially in the Fall and early Spring. The cottage is simple and efficient with a queen sleigh bed and a work desk in the bedroom, and a recently remodeled kitchen and bathroom, all utilizing the space perfectly.

Very clean little cabin, only complaint is the internet. It did not work for the first 2 days and then was very slow.
Great small cottage
A great tiny cottage in a charming location in small town Michigan. Super close to the historic lighthouse, convenient distances to drive to anywhere in the Keweenaw!
A wonderful place to stay!!
Spent an entire week at the cottage that is as close to perfect as you can get if what you are seeking is a wonderful vacation experience. One of the nicest places we have ever stayed.
Could not have been better. Best place my wife and I have ever stayed. Everything we needed was there. Location was the best. We hated to leave. Can't wait for next trip north. Hope this is available.
This property was very clean and well supplied. We felt at home and the mattress was excellent. The property manager was readily available and had everything in order. Very impressed and would book this property again!
Remote and Beautiful
The cottage is cute, very small, and depicted accurately in the listing. My husband and I were very comfortable there. It's a property that is great for a couples getaway and get off the grid. There is no internet or TV, and our Sprint phone service was terrible. The area is stunning. A sandy beach with small lapping waves is to the front of the house. The beach area has a reef that seemed to keep out huge waves. The lighthouse and a tall lookout of the rougher side of Lake Superior is a block behind the cottage. Huge crashing waves and beautiful sunrise/sunset can be seen from there. There is only one restaurant in town. The food is good, but no breakfast. Closest breakfast restaurant is about 20 mns away, Slim's Cafe in Mohawk. They had a sign that there will be new management in a couple weeks, but when we were there the food was amazing. If you are looking to get back to nature and stay in a comfortable cottage, this is the place for you. So many good hiking areas. The owner Rodney was staying in the house next door for a portion of our stay. He was very kind in our interactions. We had no problems with our stay, and only spoke to Rodney in passing.
This is truly an outdoor person's paradise. It is up to you whether you want to unplug or stay connected to internet/cellphone (Verizon). There are many areas still completely disconnected. We do not provide a television on purpose - there is so much to see and explore in this area we promise you will not need it after a full day of adventure.
