When we were starting to look for properties to stay at in Queenstown we came across Swiss Belsuites. The pictures made this property look awesome! The check in was straight forward and easy. We had booked the lake view one bedroom super suite. When we walked in the front door our first impression was average. The floors were noticeably scratched up and the carpets appeared to be in rough shape. There were scratches all over the walls and the baseboards appeared dirty. The kitchen was very bare bones. We had expected to do most of our meals at the apartment over our 3 day stay and found the cookware was very worn out and old. The AC in our unit was decent, however every minute or so would make an annoying buzzing noise. Most of the furniture in the apartment appeared very used. The coffee table looked dirty and the couch was unstable with one of the legs clearly broken and smelled of wet dog. Besides when we checked into the suite, we never were able to really experience house keeping as they arrived at 4 pm each day when we had already returned from a full day of activities. The first night we had a very rough sleep as our neighbours next door were loud and we felt as though we could hear everything through the walls. The view from the living room is lovely, but sadly I don’t think that makes up for the higher price point of the suite.

Location is great. The town center is 10 minutes by walk. The staff was courteous. I think the floor plan isn’t ideal esp if you get a courtyard facing unit. It can feel quite cramped especially when the blinds are closed.

Check in was easy & the room itself was very comfortable. The location was just on the edge of town so we could easily explore Queenstown on foot without having to stress about finding places to park. Would definitely highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Queenstown!

Nice hotel but studio too small

While this hotel has many great qualities, if you plan to stay here I would recommend getting a 1 bedroom rather than a studio apartment. The studio is simply too small with little to no storage for clothes and without enough space to open large suitcases on the floor. The kitchen space is also limited in the studio. You don't have the benefit of the view with this room choice as well. The rooms are clean though the studio is not serviced unless you stay nine nights or more. The bed is comfortable and the bathrooms are modern. Use of the laundry machine and dryer is shared between yourself and the adjoining one bedroom apartment. This worked very well for us and was extremely convenient. The reception staff were wonderful and helped us book activities.

Small cocoon of happiness

We had a very nice time at the Pounamu. Staff is exceedingly friendly, location is on the main road going into town. It's a 15-20 walk to town but there's also buses and cabs. The room itself was nice but very small with no view. Now beware this place has two types of rooms...the small with no view and the very big ones on two levels with a great view of the lake. You get what you pay for and as we just used the room to sleep we went with the cheaper option. The rooms with a view looked magnificient and I would recconend them if you are planning to spend a lot of time in the room. Kitchen was very basic, fridg and microwave. Bathroom very small but with a great bathtub.

Boo...

Would not classify this as a hotel. Pounamu is a apartment rental. Management was frugal about such things as shampoo and conditioner and charged extra for everything and anything including exchange of towels or room servicing.
