Just a simple hotel. Shouldn't present it self as a luxury. Rooms we stay it was nice. Amenities wasn't nice. Food is mediocre. Air conditionin didn't work in the room we need to change the room. They make us wait for check in until 3:40.

Can something be too luxurious?

This place is unbelievable. The units make you feel like Royalty. Really amazing. Only issue I had that the rainforest suites are really Parking Lot view and not swinging monkeys as described on the description. If you don’t plan on sitting on the balcony then these units are unbelievable. If you do plan on sitting there to watch a sunset, don’t get the rainforest suits.

Love it!

Beautiful rooms, spectacular gardens, trails, pool, and restaurant. Breakfast was great—omelette station, pancakes, French toast in a beautiful restaurant. Wonderful views all around. Wonderful service. It’s a stunning property. Close to excellent restaurants. Would stay there again.

Beautiful huge well equipped suites!

Based on the suite alone I would have given this hotel a 5 rating - they are very big and beautiful - no complaints there! My main problem was with the pricing and I feel both Expedia and Los Altos are to blame. I booked a suite online for what I thought was our family of four. When I arrived I was told I had to pay an extra $75 per teenager per night - as my reservation was only for 2 adults. This was never clear to me and when I looked back at both websites, there was all kinds of conflicting information. In some places they say the charge is $60 per extra adult and $40 per extra child. In others they say that all guests are considered adults regardless of age. In yet another area it says "these extra charges do not apply during peak season", which is when we were there, and yet they insisted we had to pay for them. The bottom line is we ended up paying over $500 extra for a 3 night stay - so beware of hidden charges/costs.

Not bad, wouldn't stay here again

The hotel is very quiet...not very many people stay there. At least the week we began. They only seem to put their "best hotel behaviour" on when the place is full. Breakfast buffet etc. on the weekend, the staff sit at the pool (in uniform) with their wife and kids swimming. The pool bartender had a group of friends by on the weekend and sat with them in uniform. This obviously made it so we had to go ask him for drinks. Once Monday came, everyone was back to working normally. The staff insisted we had our room cleaned daily, which was confusing because they didn't do a thorough job. We had a toilet full and clogged for the entire week and no one noticed because the toilets weren't being cleaned. The food was terrible for someone who doesn't eat fit. The burgers at the pool bar (which I tried twice to make sure the first time wasn't a fluke) tasted like rotten meat. I couldn't get through it and it gave me a very upset belly. By mid week I had stopped eating the food and relied on the toast and peanut butter we bought for our room. For it being a 4.5 star hotel, it did not feel like it. Although the room and grounds are beautiful, that's about all you get. I would recommend making the trek to the Los altos beach... It's beautiful and you feel like you're the first person to ever be there. (Arrange a drive back though!) The hotel doesn't care about poor reviews because they're rated highly on trip advisor. They'll be the first to tell you.

Wonderful place!

Room was amazing, staff was GREAT, and property very nice. Elevator goes directly to your 3 bedroom condo. Very nice quality, Very clean, beautiful view. Our family will be going back the next time we are in Costa Rica. We had fun at the pool, lots of local restaurants, saw monkeys at the private beach and even saw a sloth on the property. The breakfast that was included was very nice. Highly recommend Los Altos.
