Nice staff, beautiful place. Over all very happy with everything except there was no air conditioning in on of our two bedrooms and that room was boiling at night

The grounds and the views were beautiful. A great beach to swim at, with lots of shade if you want it. The beach path is a little steep, but we didn’t have any issues (the resort offers rides if you can’t make the climb back up). The pool was also enjoyable, though it would have been nice if the swim-up bar had been open. The resort has one restaurant - Happy Talk, and a new place that offers take-out - Wiki Pizza. There are more dining options in Hanalei, but it’s about a 10 minute drive to get there.

Beautiful pool, average room

The grounds and pool are very nice and clean. The pool is particularly impressive. The bar/restaurant onsite is excellent. Our room was dated and noisey and a bit disappointing. There are chickens and roosters all over the resort, which is really fun, except they crow all through the night. For hotel guests, they only service your room every three days. Many folks staying there are timeshare owners and the rooms with the best views go to them. Beach access is a five minute walk downhill down a really pretty path. The beach is nice but not big and does not have lounge chairs for Hanalei Bay resort guests. We went in November and it rained a lot.

One star at best.

Musty carpeted tiny room. No bed. Just uncomfortable saggy fold out couch. Room miles from pool or beach and several flights of stairs super inconvenient with kids. Some staff were really nice and helpful others just didnt care and were rude. Pool and landscaping are very nice. No restaurant or food on premises for breakfast or lunch and limited options for dinner all dissapointing. At least you can walk to Regis via beach for really nice food. I have travelled the world abd have stayed in better 10$/night hostels.

Nice but not enough to stay there again

The resort is pretty remote and large, takes about 10 minutes to drive to it from the highway, and then you need a golf car to get from the reception to the room and from the room to the beach. You might be better off staying in Kappa and driving all the way from there, in terms of time savings. The rooms have really well equipped kitchens, but the beds are pull-out sofas with springs that squeak and stick into your ribs. A very strange arrangement for a resort.

Great spot

Beautifully situated hotel with an awesome pool area. Loved our room with kitchen and updated bathroom though found the pull-out bed quite uncomfortable. Could feel the springs from the bed poking through. Looking forward to going back to visit the currently closed restaurant.

Absolute Worst Hotel I've Ever Paid For!! Beware!!

There are so many bad things about this hotel I don't even know where to start! 1) We were informed hotel is that there is only maid service once every four days! Luckily we only booked 2 days! List of thing that I would expect from a budget hotel, yet this wasn't exactly a budget hotel at $188/night in USD for our upgraded King room: 2) Room had no mini fridge 3) Room had no safe 4) Room had no water glasses 5) Room had no coffee maker 6) Room had no ice bucket and only 1 small garbage can 7) Old fashioned lock on door was troublesome every time we opened door. Took us nearly a minute of fiddling with lock each time. 8) Room smelled, a variety of smells none of them good. Old mildew type smell, rotting walls, and our room appeared to be a recently renovated room. Don't let the nicely renovated front desk of the hotel fool you! Most of our trip was in budget hotels, all of which were substantially better than this dump. I have literally never stayed in a worse hotel in my life!

Clean, Rustic, and Beautiful

This is a beautiful getaway in the cottage country of Hawaii. The hotel has a beautify view of Jurassic Park island (really this is where the movie was filmed) and is a short walk away from a really clean and picturesque beach. It is also a short drive to Hanalei Bay. Check in was easy, there is lots of parking (which by the way you will need a car), and the surrounding are is quite beautiful. While we enjoyed our stay, we were slightly disappointed that the restaurant, fitness, and common areas, were closed for renovations. This was a fact of which we were not made aware before we booked our stay. Presumably this will not be a problem in the future. there were a list of group activities which could be done on the resort as well as suggested places to go get some local food. The landscaping around the resort was particularly well done and the pool was beautiful. If you like tennis there were 6 or more courts which could be used. As well, though we did not golf, there were an abundance of options and well manicured courses. We are a young couple, we like surfing and being in action, and lots of wild life. This fits perfectly with this island, but you will have to drive to get the most of this. It should also be noted that the clientele was much older than us. If you want a quiet getaway with lots of nature this is the perfect place for you. If you are interested in action and a lot of night life you may want to consider a different Island.

Comfortable, friendly staff

Despite the facility being older style (like most of Hawaii), the bed was very comfortable and it had all the amenities I needed. Staff were prompt with responding to any needs.

Awesome resort at the heart of Hanalei

Totally good resort; very earthy. Unfortunately because of this too, we found that bugs are often found inside the room. Not a major put off but can be annoying sometimes. Location is about 45 to 1 hour drive from Lihue, depending on traffic/ road condition and how fast you want to drive. It is a bit on the remote side so you will need a car to get access to this place. But once you are here, you will forget all of the trouble that you took!

Huge disapointment

At first , the scale of this resort is impressive and the consierege was very nice. The person taking me to my room didn't exactly know where my room was. The room was clean but the old brown fridge was scratched and rusty. The fact that the TV turned on but no picture was frustrating. The water pressure in the shower was weak but I was soon distracted by the cockroach crawling around on the ceiling above my head. After I got settled into bed, someone came to my door with other guests trying to unlock my door. The hotel neglected to inform me that there was no breakfast option as the restaurant had burned down over a year ago. I tried to make a complain to the manager but he was not available.

Nice Hotel Close to the Beach

This hotel will be great once the renovations have been completed. We did not realize that when we booked and they stated that the restaurant was closed down that there was no other food options. The room came with a kitchen however, there are no groceries stores around and there is no food delivery services - if you do not have a car, as we did not, you will be out of luck. We ended up having to eat at the very expensive hotel next door. Otherwise the pool, room and location was great. Our Lanai overlooked the mountains and the sunrise was fabulous.

Not worth what you'll pay

Although the location of this hotel was not bad, the island is small enough that we could have stayed elsewhere and been much happier with a slightly longer drive to certain sites. The facilities were under construction when we were there, leaving us with no option but to drive to get food. There was no phone or internet for two days while we were there which meant we weren't able to set up any tours. Although the staff at the front desk was friendly, they were also frustratingly slow...I travel often and have never taken so long to check-in at a hotel in my life! We were also charged a service fee for the check-in and a resort fee, despite a lack of resort facilities. The decor in the room was outdated, but this would not have been an issue if the room had felt clean. There was a cockroach in the bathroom on the second day. In all, it was a frustrating stay and we were much happier when we stayed at another hotel on the south side of the island (for pretty much the same price) for the remainder of our stay.

Our room was directly beside construction and would hope clients could be situated in an area farther away given the size and amount of rooms available.

best spot in kauai

we weren't expecting too much based on reviews, but we were so impressed. we had everything we needed in our one bedroom unit, and everything were in good working order. many appliances seemed brand new. we appreciated the rattan furniture (which we expected in hawaii). our unit was at ground level, and the living room and bedroom walk out into a sloping, flowery, grassy area overlooking the bay. The term "heavenly Hanalei" is not an exaggeration. We believe our unit had one of the best views of the property. Check-in and check-out were prompt, response by housekeeping and other staff were speedy. There were two things we found inconvenient: we had to walk from our unit (walk outside) to either the pool or the lobby to get access to free wifi; and the restaurant is still under construction.

I love Hanalei Bay!

Great hotel for the price! Our room was pleasant and the location rocked! We don't play tennis but if you do this would be a great place for you to stay. Nice safe location to swim in the ocean for people with younger children with them.

Lovely place to stay only sorry the restaurant burnt down but good news it is being rebuilt. The pool and the beach at the bottom of the cliffs are fantastic. Excellent snorkeling and you can even get a ride back up the cliffs again. Is obviously a tennin resort with loads of opportunity to play. Very close to all the Princeville shops and restaurants and other beaches.

Hanalei Bay Resort

This place was a really beautiful place. I think the cleaning fee should be put into the bulk of the main price but otherwise the room was worth the money. The sofa bed was horrible, was in pain from it the entire stay. Opt for the bed instead.
