Granoller is not Barcelona

I'm responsible for my own choice but when I called the hotel after I booked, someone told me it's only a 30 minute train ride which is more, and also they said if I had a car it's only 10 minutes to Barcelona well I didn't find out cause I never rented a car. The Hotel is excellent but it's location relative to Barcelona for a single guy looking for night life is HORRIBLE! My evenings for 4 nights were truly wasted, but now that I know I'll be making a better choice. Also my credit card company ruined my first booking which was Hotel Brucgotic right in Barcelona. Don't forget the last train to Granoller from Barcelona leaves at midnight !!!!!!!

Great Value!

We stayed at this hotel in August 2012. We were 2 adults and a 4-year old. The room we were given could be separated into 2 sections for privacy and there was a little kitchen available, with a micro-wave and dish-washer. The hotel is also very conveniently located at walking distance from the train station (half hour to Barcelona) as well as the center of Ganollers - a cute small town with all kinds of shops etc nearby. The staff at the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our stay. We'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Good Self-catering Facility in Seedy Neighbourhood

Prior to deciding to stay at the hotel Atenea i read reviews and made my decision strictly on the basis of the reviews. First, I was pleasantly surprised to have room cleaned daily (not typical for self-catering apartment hotels). The fact that there was 24hr frontdesk was great (better than french self-caterers). The hotel however is not what we north americans would consider 4-stars (3-stars max), but i am not complaining as the standard is what i expect of self-catering. Biggest caution: the neighbourhood is quite "seedy" - surrounding buildings are in poor state of repair, economically it is clearly a poor-to-working class area, streets are dirty - basically the neighbourhood is a bit ghetto-ish. Having said that: there was no safety issues, i went out late at nights and felt perfectly safe, people are friendly and i am not suggesting the neighbourhood is dangerous - just that it is a bit of an eyesore. Had i not visited other parts of barcelona, i would not have been willing to return to barcelona as a first time visitor. overall the hotel is decent value, i recommend it, but would advise the hotel to STOP holding itself out as 4-star - this is clearly a self-appointed star rating which undermines the credibility of the hotel. it should simply market itself as a top notched self-catering facility with a great hotel-like value proposition - namely decent pricing, daily room service and onsite restaurant.

It was a very pleasant stay. The hotel is clean, and the staff is professional and friendly. It is a bit far from Barcelona, but a 30 min trip by train will get you there. I definitively recommend this hotel for everybody who wants to pay less for good quality.

Need to update rooms and get better matresses

Hi, The lobby, breakfast and staff were amazing. But then the room was disappointing all except for the bathroom. Bathroom was nice, large and clean except for the ceiling which was cork board. The carpet was soiled and the matress had a huge sagging hole which messed up my back. If the hotel updated the matresses and carpet alone its ratings would go up to a 4 or 5.

Great location, amazing views

The stay was very nice, amazing view from pur 5 fllor roon..... but some clients were super noisy and some nights sounded like we were in the room with others....the last night was the worse and after complaining to reception we didn't have the quick reponse that we expected.....cos the noise carry on for over another hour.....for the price and the 4 star, we expected clients to be nore civilised!!! BUT despite that inconvenience, we loved the place and location.

Being American, Europe often feels like a second world country with some of the lack of amenities and the complications surrounding transportation and overall cleanliness. I would say that Granollers is great for being a non-tourist city in Europe and the hotel has amenities that I had not found elsewhere! The staff is incredible. They’re absolutely lovely and polite and they give amazing advice on food, culture, and local adventures. The exemplary staff is defined by an individual named Xavi Pascual who works at the front desk. He did such an amazing job that I am actually planning back to repeat my adventures in Granollers and staying at Aparthotel Atenea again.
