If I had to describe Southwark in one word I would say IKEA. Everything was great except there is no elevator which can be an issue for some. There are laundry facilities and they GIVE the detergent. The young woman on the desk carried a bag upstairs for us, and booked the shuttle. Great place to stay.

The room was really small and once I made a spot for my suitcase, I couldn’t get to the windows to close/open the curtains without walking over the bed. The freezer in the mini-fridge didn’t work.

Some things good, some not so good

First the not-so-good things: 1) The lift is not a typical elevator; it is a wheel-chair lift that is slow. When we arrived, a piece of metal on the door sill got jammed and we were stuck in the lift for about an hour until a service man arrived. 2) When we got to our room we found there was a definite smell of sewer gas. It was after midnight by this time so we put up with it for the night but had to get moved to a new room the next day. 3) The rooms are very small. There is not even space to put a stand for your luggage and there is only about a foot between the bed and the wall on two sides. Now for the good things: 1) Very convenient location about 15 min walk from downtown. 2) There is a small fridge in the room and a very well equipped communal kitchen where you can cook a meal so you can save on restaurants. We cooked our supper there every night. 3) Staff are pleasant and helpful. Despite the adventures of our first night I would stay there again, but not for more than a few days because of the small room size.

Excellent quality-cost value

Southwark Apartments was a great place for us to stay. While not the most spacious, they have optimized the space with lots of storage and you have everything you need to be comfortable, including a functional kitchenette in the room and a full kitchen down the hall. The bed was relatively comfortable. The bathroom is small but clean. Overall, this is an excellent place to stay especially for the price. Within walking distance of the grocery store. Would definitely stay here again.

The studio apartment was compact but well equipped, sparking clean and very well laid out. There are several fully equipped common areas. The staff was friendly and helpful and this unit more than met our needs.
