Great location

A small comfortable hotel with friendly and professional staff. It’s in a great spot in Port of Spain so well located. It’s a good enough breakfast and the rooms are clean. It’s not five star and they are not advertising it as a five star though the service and professionalism of Sherryann is probably better than five star.

Excellent staff, good location, good value

This appears to be an older building that, at some point was re-purposed to be a hotel. The decor and fixtures are nice, but they are not new. Nice garden terrace to take your coffee. Nice location short walk from the performing Arts, and the Botanical gardens. Next door to the Hilton and you know the Hilton is not going to choose a bad location. Short on amenities, no pool, no shops, etc, but for some, like me, that is just fine.

It's a great place but...

This may have been my fault and they were very good about it but our room was apparently booked for one person. My wife and I nonetheless checked in without any problems. Part way through our stay we were told that the room was incorrectly booked and there would be an additional charge of $45 a night. That may sound excessive but $45 Trinidad and Tobago dollars (TTD) is about $9 Canadian dollars so fair enough. A bit of a cash grab it seemed but fine. We were later told that it was USD, or about $60 a night CAD, or for our stay, an extra $540 CAD! Had the room of initially been booked for two people, the extra charge is $14 CAD a night. This brought the total price to more than the Hilton down the street (with pools, shaded outdoor areas, drinks, etc) and we would never have booked L'Orchidee at that price. L'Orchidee provides a very nice room and a very pleasant breakfast. There is nothing else and Trinidad is HOT. No pool, no shaded chaises, nothing like that. The staff and Manager were very pleasant and very understanding of how this news tainted our entire holiday. We booked into a reasonable B&B for the rest of our stay for less than the difference between the new and the original price but we worked something out with L'Orchidee and ended up staying. We were angry and felt duped and disappointed but the hotel was very kind and never lost their composure like we did (sorry!). So the lesson is double check your booking but we would still recommend them after all that.

Nice hotel, Excellent Staff

Located across from Savannah Park , in a good area (so I was told by our driver). The hotel reminds me of an old refurbished Mansion, gated, with security all night. The rooms are quaint, and very clean. The hotel does arrange airport pick-up for a descent fee. We arrived 6 hour prior to check in, and Sherry-ann was polite, and tried to accommodate us to the best of her ability. The staff were fantastic, especially Sherry-ann, she was extremely helpful and referred us to an excellent driver. The breakfast was good, with a combination of cold items and hot items cooked to order.

A lovely little hotel near the Queens Savannah

We stayed one night at L'Orchidee and had a great time there. Staff was incredibly accommodating, helping us order in, printing out a map of the downtown area, recommending activities for the afternoon, and arranging a taxi to the airport. The free breakfast was delicious - it featured the usual spread of cereals and fruits, but the chef had also prepared mini frittatas, mini quiches, and local breakfast options (accra and tomato choka, which were the highlight of the meal for us). The rooms are well kept, with A/C, a mini fridge, and a full bathroom. There's a little patio where you can enjoy a beer and admire the titular orchids. The neighbourhood the hotel is in is quite safe, and the Queens Savannah makes L'Orchidee easy to locate, so we had a very pleasant afternoon strolling around downtown Port of Spain. A taxi from the airport starts at $30 USD, but runs a little more at night.

Welcoming boutique hotel.

This hotel, tho' not luxurious, was welcoming, clean and comfortable. The staff did all they could to make us welcome and provide us with the things we needed as well as arranging taxis, information, and tours. The breakfasts were hot, cooked for us when we arrived in the dining room. The staff was friendly and helpful. Tho' it is a distance from the airport, and no shuttle is provided, they did arrange for a taxi to pick us up and take us to the airport. I would recommend this hotel to others.
