The Throne is a beautiful Grade 2*-listed house in an award-winning black and white village in rolling English countryside. The owners have carefully added a huge open plan living area to the original medieval building to create a stunning and relaxed place to stay. The garden is enchanting with its large lawn, pretty patios and well tended flower beds. There's no better place to be, whether you want to enjoy a morning coffee, play badminton, bounce on the trampoline, read a book, light the barbecue, enjoy fabulous local cheese and a glass of Weobley beer or just lie on the grass and listen to the birds. A lot of guests never want to leave the premises (and that was before lockdown!)
With 7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and generous entertaining space, the Throne is dog friendly, ideal for family gatherings, friend reunions, and special celebrations. It's also sufficiently homely for a couple or small party to enjoy (there is a 35% discount for up to 6 people using 3 bedrooms).
This outstanding Grade II* listed house has a fascinating history and a Royal connection from which it takes its name. Begun in 1478 and expanded in 16th century, it hosted Charles I for a night in 1645 during the English Civil War. He came fresh from relieving the siege of Hereford, a rare victory for the Royalists at that time. The original Tudor bedrooms, one of which the king slept in, and even older north wing are home to secret passages, original floorboards, glimpses of wattle and daub and other delightful features showing how the house has evolved over the centuries. A specially written guide encourages young (and old) explorers to follow the clues. We aim to make sure our prices are reasonable to give more people the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate this very special place.
Weobley is the largest and best preserved of the classic black and white villages of Herefordshire. It's also a very friendly and vibrant village and The One Show's 'Village of the Year 2017'. It has a fine traditional English pub (the Sal'), three excellent places to eat (which also do takeaways), a butcher, delicatessen, wholefood emporium and well-stocked village shop. There are lovely circular walks straight from the house.

We stayed in The Throne as our first weekend away as a book group and we all loved this house. It was very cosy and warm and the village had a lot to offer in terms of food, pubs and friendly people.
The whole experience. The house, village, the countryside, the peace and quiet. Very relaxing stay. Kitchen was well equipped. Lots of room for extended families.
It was a fascinating property in a beautiful village. We stayed with friends and there was plenty of room for all of us. The main extension was a fantastic living space and the older parts of the house were quirky and fabulous. We visited both of the local pubs and those with pets enjoyed the lovely garden.
We are a group of 8 friends living in various parts of the UK who get together twice a year. The Throne is a lovely quirky house very well placed for walks directly from the property and excellent local restaurants. Lovely to be able use the generous table in the dining room when catering for ourselves.
A group of 12 of us had a wonderful weekend at The Throne reading books. The kitchen is large and well-equipped, bedrooms are plentiful and the beds are really comfortable, there are plenty of bathrooms including two lovely baths. Communication with the owner and housekeeper was easy and efficient. The house was spacious and full of Tudor character but also surprisingly warm and comfortable. We didn't explore the village much because we were so happy in the house reading books but it looks magical and there was some nice gentle walks around the old castle earthworks and fields nearby. A wonderful weekend - thank you.
This is a stunning property and very comfortable.
However , the oven was dirty and smelled of grease.
The baking trays were also very greasy and had to be washed before use. There was an old newspaper under one of the beds. Very small TV in the sitting room and not enough comfortable seating for a large party

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. The housekeepers are looking into it - they pride themselves on high standards so I’m sure this will be addressed immediately. So glad you enjoyed your stay.
We spent Christmas at this fabulous property - 3 grandparents, 4 children and their partners and 3 grandchildren. We had the best time! The history of the house is fascinating. The accommodation for a large party like ours is exceptional - so much space and so well equipped. The grandchildren loved the secret passages! it was beautifully warm and there was loads of hot water for showering. The table tennis was a bonus. The village of Weobley is also lovely and has a restaurant, 2 pubs, coffee shop, tea shop and convenience store. There's plenty to do locally as well. Can't fault it - fabulous!
Had a lovely weekend with 9 people but there was no hot water in the 2 upstairs pods. Not a problem as we were all good friends and able to share the other 2 bathrooms.
Plenty of space for us all. But could possible do with another couple of easy chairs in the lounge. We all fitted in and the house was lovely and warm.
Could do with some extra wine glasses in the kitchen or the dining room.
Lots of cooking pots and serving bowls provided for our Sunday roast.
A super weekend in a great location.
Thank you
We (three sons with wives/partners and 3 children including 2 toddlers and their great-grandmother) had a great time during our weekend family get-together. The secluded garden and communal areas were excellent including a huge kitchen/dining/living area, a dining room with not one but two chandeliers (where we celebrated a birthday), and a cozy sitting room. The downstairs bedroom with en suite was excellent and had an very comfortable Hypnos mattress. The upstairs accommodation was more basic and rustic with uneven floors from the 14th and 15th century. Minor negatives included a lack of wardrobes, a mattress in the master bedroom which had seen better days, a TV which was small for the size of the sitting room, and too few hand towels, rubbish bags and dishwasher tablets. We all had a good time and enjoyed the history of the place and Weobley.
A fantastic house in a lovely location. Perfect for a family get together. The large garden was great for the kids and dogs. We loved reading about the history of the house and exploring all the different rooms and of course finding the narnia wardrobe!
this is a great house for a large family group. there is plenty of space, a nice garden and a trampoline. the house is well equipped and fitted out. It would be even better with some more comfy sofas in the living room/kitchen which is a great room to sit in - very light and pleasant. The children loved the secret passages
Can highly recommend this fantastic property. The history of it makes it interesting and quirky, but you have full use of all the mod cons. The garden was beautiful and the sunny weather meant the children could enjoy games of cricket and croquet. The games rooms were also well used by all!
We had everything provided we could ask for, and the local amenities also meant you didn't have to drive anywhere if you didn't want to. We particularly enjoyed The Unicorn and Lal Bagh for evening meals and drinks.
Would highly recommend The Throne at Weobley.
Very quirky property which we all loved. Will definitely remember this short break. Ate at the Sal one night..food was ok..had indian takeaway on another night from village which was fab.
What a quirky amazing place this is. From the moment we walked through the door everyone fell in love with the place. The vast rooms, the two staircases, the amazing kitchen area make this a number1 for a get together. The village people are so friendly made it an ideal location too. Not ideal for someone with walking issues because the floors up stairs are uneven.but after 10 years of birthday lettings we have a new number one
The house was interesting with its varied room sizes and quirky restored Tudor features.
I loved the uneven floorboards, tiny books and crannies and log burners.
The house was perfect for group catering and had large communal areas for group activities.
Beautiful quaint village and interesting local walks.
We stayed as a large group of adults to celebrate a 'big' birthday. We were all amazed by the house. Fabulous spaces to entertain, beautiful dog friendly, secure garden and games room. Very well equipped. The character and history of the house really makes this a special place. Quite possibly the best place I've ever stayed.
Everybody loved it! In all we welcomed 26 members of our family over 7 days. The fun rooms, large kitchen and eating area plus the formal dining room were all used to good effect. Garden peaceful and games were brilliant. Initial problems with Raeburn and heating resolved with help of owners. Great area to explore with fascinating towns and lovely walks.
Utterly stunning accommodation in a beautiful village. The kids (and adults) could not believe the magical secret passage ways in the house. An abundance of games outdoors and indoors to keep everybody entertained. We would love to come back!

Beautiful house,
The house itself is beautiful, lovely garden, great location, only issue was there was no cleaning products to clean after ourselves, had to phone the owners to ask where to put our rubbish as the cleaners have not emptied the bins no where to put rubbish, some random person turned up one day watering the garden without checking if it was OK, some other random person turned up another time to take out the bin bags we got told to leave by the bins. Then on the last day of leaving, we are getting ready to leave it was only 3 minutes past 10 am a bunch of people turned up saying they were the cleaners. I was like it's only just gone 10am. They could have waited till we left before all arriving. Oh and the local pub is not great as the landlord is super rude and doesn't like people in his pub. The unicorn in seem much better

I’m glad you liked the house and garden so much but sorry you had concerns. We try and deal with issues as soon as they are brought to our attention. I’m really sorry about the bins - as explained, it was because the road was resurfaced the previous week and the bin men physically could not get to them. We then arranged for the bin bags you used to be taken away to keep the drive looking attractive rather than waiting for bin day later in the week. To save guests trouble we ask someone from the village to put the bins out. In order to keep the garden looking its best in a dry period, we may need mid-week watering. I’m sorry that you overlapped with our housekeeping team. However preparing such a large house to a high standard and also meeting the extra hygiene standards advised to reduce Covid is a huge task and the team need to begin promptly - hence we ask guests to leave by 10 but also advise them that the team arrive at that time. We would rather give you as long as possible to pack up than ask you to leave at 9 or 9.30am. Thank you for the tip on cleaning products for guests. We have been avoiding leaving out anything with dangerous chemicals but can see that guests may sometimes want to do some cleaning themselves and will remedy that. I should also say that all the team who help look after the house and garden are very friendly and local and would be more than happy to answer any questions about the area.
I would recommend the throne after our stay. We loved the quirky, quaint property and the garden was great being so large. It was a beautiful location and we didn’t even feel we needed to leave the house with the weather being so hot we played games in the garden
Fabulous house with so many features. The large garden was fully enclosed which was lovely and the owners arranged a selection of garden games. Situated in a lovely village, and excellent local shops. Great visit.
We had a lovely time in this wonderful large house with a great garden. Loads for kids to do and a beautiful location.

About the host
Hosted by Anna Longman
I am a history and interior-design mad civil servant. I love old buildings, beautiful landscapes, cycling, walking, exploring, especially in the company of husband and spaniel. And our children of course. I realise that most things I have acquired - dog, house, rucksack, favourite jumpers - are black and white and feel especially relaxed in a black and white setting, of which Weobley is the most. And I love colour as its counterpoint in garden and interiors .
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this house on a long weekend away for William and Kate’s Royal Wedding. 12 months’ later we’d bought it and two years later finished the restoration -thanks to Andrew, our conservation architect, a fantastic local building firm, an army of expert craftsmen from all over the county, and with full support from English Heritage. We are thrilled with the result (and our dog likes it so much he often will refuse to leave). However it was always our intention that the house should be shared with others and not be a blank presence in the village. We are now delighted to have other people visiting and sharing our surprise and discoveries in the house, the beautiful Wye valley, the spectacular Black Mountains and great houses and gardens of the Welsh Marches. Come and see!
What makes this property unique
We love the architecture: the medieval wing, the top notch Tudor drawing room with its dramatic counter-pattern ceiling, the charming Strawberry Gothic windows, the details on the timbers - ancient decorations, builder's initials, complete set of carpenters' marks showing how the house was put together. We love living in the huge open plan area at the back of the house where all the music, cooking and conversation happens and you feel immersed in the garden. The huge windows and floor to ceiling doors make it so light, yet sheltered. You feel enclosed in your own special world.
