Thank you for your review of Quarry House. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back soon.
A great sized property that had more than enough space for 7 of us. The grounds and surrounding woodlands were very peaceful. The added extras such as the log burner, hot tub & games room meant that we had plenty to do on the rainy days. The area is very remote which adds to the privacy and the nearby villages had everything we needed from takeaway to post office. We’d definitely love to stay again
The property was fantastic and located in a beautiful spot it had everything we needed and more from the relaxing hottub to the cosy fire pit not to mention the stunning gardens and spectacular scenery! i would 100% recommend to all and will be definitely returning, the communication from the owners was also great with instructions from check in to check out and reassurance that they was a message away had we had any issues :)
Such a wonderful setting, so quiet. The house is wonderful and the gardens are enormous around it. Very secure for both dogs and children. Long driveway well fenced. We will definitely be back here one day. Thanks Amanda.

Stunning setting with a lovely relaxing house
Lovely house with vey cosy atmosphere, great for relaxing in with log burner and great kitchen/ diner. Kids ( and dog) loved exploring in the garden which was secure but still felt like you were in the woods. Lovely villages on the door stop with great local butchers and fresh local produce.
Surrounded by stunning countryside with amazing views and interesting walks.
Went for a swim in the pool in the village which was great for a rainy day.
Highly recommend this house and location for a relaxed get away.

Everything had been thought of to make our stay comfortable and special. Because of lockdowns we waited over a year to finally stay at Quarry House but oh boy, was it worth the wait. Comfortable beds, spacious yet cosy sitting room, ample sized kitchen for sitting g and putting the world to rights and stunning location. A gem.

Thank you for your kind review Sue. We are so pleased to have guests back and very happy you enjoyed Quarry House as we work hard to make sure guests have a fabulous experience.
Quarry House was perfect for our family holiday. 7 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs enjoyed everything the house had to offer. The children had so much fun between the hot tub, games room, grounds and play area. The house is equipped with everything you need for an away from it all break. We enjoyed meals around the big kitchen table, beautiful views from the terrace and summer house, relaxing around the outdoor fire, chilling in the hot tub and long walks. The Chinese takeaway in Presteigne was delicious and only a 5 minute drive away. We loved the house and would definitely recommend it.
Set in some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK, the property offers multi-layered experiences within a private and tranquil setting. Themed areas abound; the firepit to the rear, the hot tub, the sun kissed terrace, the summer house on the hill, the secluded trails through the grounds, the games room and of course the house itself which is a gem. Convenience and utility for all ages in all weathers but you do need to be mobile to manage the stairs, steps and hills. It's hard to imagine any family or group who wouldn't be enthralled by this location.

Fantastic country getaway
My wife and I and six early twenty something girls! A nightmare you'd think, as it happens Quarry House is laid out so that nobody seemed to get under each other's feet, the games room is a big bonus.
Amanda is super easy to deal with and very patient!!
The house is fantastic as mentioned loads of room, clean, warm and very private.
Location is great, we took bikes and cycled the quiet roads and trails in the area and there are some good walks in the woods right outside the back garden.
All told we had a great weekend in a superb house,
Thanks to Chris and Amanda for making quarry house available to share.

Thank you so much for your kind words. We are delighted to hear you had a great time and that Quarry House met your needs so perfectly. We look forward to hearing from you again soon.
The property was as described, but still impressed when we arrived. All well stocked with items that's needed to make your stay hassle free and enjoyable. Such as plenty pots and pans, cutlery, milk, bread, butter, towels for showering and hot tub. Instructions for everything that you need. The hosts immediately replied to any questions we had before hand. (Didn't need to ask anything once there). Grounds were just perfect for our two dogs. Walk them around the grounds first thing in the morning, then off out up Burfa Hill which is accessed via a gate on the property grounds. Once there we didn't need to go out once. Great location, great facilities and great hosts.

Very sorry to hear you were disappointed with your stay at Quarry House. We ask that guests contact us if they have any problems and we did attempt to contact you on several occasions concerning the breakages. It would seem that something failed with the communications on this occasion. If you would like to contact us, we would be happy to address your concerns.

Quarry House was an amazing venue for our extended family Christmas celebration. We had 12 people from 9-74 and a dog and all had a great time. The house looked beautiful all lit up and decorated. We particularly appreciated the amazingly well equipped kitchen. There was nothing at all that we missed even down to spare batteries. There were clear instructions on how to operate everything and helpful local information. We enjoyed walks in the woods, soaking in the hot tub and warming up in front of the log burner. We had an issue with a power cut on the 1st night. This was outside anyone’s control but the owner was very helpful in communicating with us and finding out the cause of the problem and it was quickly resolved. All in all the house was perfect for our needs and we may very well rent it again (if they’ll have us!)
My birthday stay was one of two halves. At the weekend we hosted my grown up children and their young families, totalling 9 of us and 2 dogs. With a choice of games console, pool, dolls house, darts, wendy house, table tennis and hot tub (and more which we didn't use) the children were always busy and parents happy. Eating was straight forward with such a long table and plenty of toddler friendly plates etc. Dogs were also well catered for with their own box of supplies.
Things don't always go perfectly and the shower was fixed within 4 hours of reporting it.
The following week our family returned to work and we hosted friends in their place. The host and the housekeeper obligingly accommodated this change of use perfectly by supplying us with extra sheets and towels with perfect attention to our requests.
Quarry House is located in beautiful rolling countryside. I struggled to arrange taxis but that aside, the house has everything to entertain families and walkers without jumping in the car.
All our guests were sad to leave, having had the most perfect stay.

Disliked: Cleanliness, listing accuracy
House needing a deep clean and decorated through out.
Quarry house review...on arrival place looked fantastic, plenty grounds for kids to run around very welcoming even the sun was shining. We were disappointed with the cleanliness given we had paid an enhanced cleaning fee due to covid. When we arrived two of our party spent the first hour cleaning. On closer inspection the house was full of cob webs (on the foot of one bed, all along wall art throughout the house, ceiling joists in the kitchen dining area) kitchen needed a full deep clean due to toaster full of crumbs, kettles had stale water in them, dishwasher was smelly and had food debris lying in the bottom. The sink was covered in brown splashes and draining board was filthy. The utility room fridge freezer had dried in spilled milk along the doors. We cleaned the visible milk away and cleaned the fridge freezer 3 times but still smelled. Cleaners said they had reported this but it was still dirty when we arrived so hadn't been cleaned anyway. Tumble dryer lint filter was left full. Hot tub had a broken seal this was day one! When we pulled the travel cot out from under the bed it and the fold up bed we're covered in a very thick layer of dust which made me wonder when they had last been moved for under the bed to be hoovered. Travel cot was also stained so gave that a clean before using which we would have done anyway but still disappointed to see it was put away visibly dirty. Day 2 blind fell off the window of the black and white room, cafetiere cracked when we put hot water in it. We found food under the kitchen sofa. Broken toilet seat hinge ( not recently broken) kids swing set is well past its best, there were broken kids chairs in the Wendy house we had to hide from our toddler as they were unsafe. Lovely bedding, plenty towels supplied. Hot tub was amazing . The outside new seating was lovely to picnic with our wee people. The house could benefit from a deep clean and refreshing of paint , broken tiles replaced, garden slabs levelled as some are wobbly (not good for our kids. Yes when we called to report any issues they were delt with quickly thankfully. We were a family of 5 adults a 6 year old and a 2 year old . Drove over 5 hours from Scotland for a 4night stay and I tried to enjoy our time but kept finding more faults. holes in the ground which unfortunately but luckily( rather me than kids) I fell down injuring my shin and ankle. Summer house equipment sun damaged, lot of road noise in teal room. Needs a major update all over
Absolutely amazing property. Has literally everything you could ask for in terms of facilities. Great kitchen, hot tub was a success with the kids, great games room.
Loved the sun terrace area.
We had a brilliant week, I only wish we had booked for longer. The house, grounds and views are stunning. So much to keep the kids happy away from home! The house is remote but near enough to a number of lovely attractions including the Small Breed Farm Park and owl centre which is definitely worth a visit, and a trip to Hay, which we loved. Would absolutely recommend. Thank you!
The property was even better than expected, well equipped and decent space. The hot tub was great with all the family having a dip at some point. The grounds offered great walks for the dogs with direct access on to forest walks or even runs for the more energetic of us. Found lots of interesting places to visit, it feels a bit like the place where time stood still
A lovely spacious house in a beautiful setting. Something entertaining for every member of the family provided from 4 to 76 years. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and made wonderful memories. Thank you so much Amanda and Chris.
Our group had a wonderful mid week stay. There was so much to do and keep us entertained while we were here, we all had a great time. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything we needed, it’s also a lovely pet friendly place to stay. We will return again in the future.

About the host
Hosted by Amanda and Chris Mallett
We have three children and two Labradors. We enjoy spending time together on holiday and love the tranquil relaxing home from home we have created. We have hired many holiday homes over the years and have a good idea about what makes a great holiday home. We hope that we have used our knowledge to create a wonderful holiday location for others to enjoy too.
Why they chose this property
Quarry House sits on the borders of both Powys and Herefordshire. We originally looked to buy a holiday home in Herefordshire where we had enjoyed a fabulous holiday the previous year. Herefordshire is a hidden gem of England and one of the best kept secrets as a place for wonderful holidays. Please keep our secret and join us in enjoying a beautiful part of the country.
What makes this property unique
The views from Quarry House are it's best feature. Watch the Herefordshire dairy herd in the morning charging across the fields to be fed. The walks direct from the property are fantastic for walkers and dog owners. Our dog enjoys the 3 acres of garden to explore. The house is well equipped for families with children. This house is our family home from home and we hope that you enjoy the comfort and facilities that we have available to our guests.
