Blacksmith’s Cottage (ref UK10211) and Carpenters Cottage (ref UK10239) are two cottages located next door to each other in the popular area of Upwey in the Georgian seaside town of Weymouth, Dorset. They are newly built cottages, constructed in 2018, on land that was once used by the owner’s grandfather for his workshop. He could turn his hand to anything from carpentry, wheel wrights, metal works, painting and electrical. In fact there are very few if any, buildings in the village of Upwey that the owner’s grandfather has not worked on in the past. Over time the workshops had become run down and so the decision was made to redevelop the land with the construction of Blacksmith’s Cottage and Carpenters Cottage. Reflecting the owner’s grandfather’s love of carpentry and wood, the cottages are timber framed and their names have been chosen to echo the prior use of the land. Both properties offer countryside views from the front, as well as great walks. They are also on the main bus routes to explore Dorset while leaving the car behind. Weymouth itself boasts an award-winning golden sandy beach, picturesque harbour and ideally positioned along the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coastline. A perfect spot for couples and families wanting to explore the beautiful surrounding areas of Dorset.
The UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast is on your doorstep offering highlights such as Chesil Beach, whilst Abbotsbury, West Bay, Bridport, Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove are slightly further away. The Jurassic Coast is home to more than 300 coastal walks offering some breathtaking views across the 200 million year old shoreline. Dorset’s county town, Dorchester, is known as Thomas Hardy’s town and is home to Roman relics, Brewery Square and the pioneering, architectural royal develeopment of Poundbury. Take a trip to the Isle of Portland, host to the 2012 Olympic sailing events, and home to the world-famous National Sailing Academy. Chocolate box villages can be admired in many areas of Dorset. The swannery at Abbotsbury provides the opportunity to observe the resident colony of mute swans, which has been in existence since the 14th century. From late May, visitors can walk around the nesting area, observing the cygnets at close quarters. Another attraction at Abbotsbury are the sub-tropical gardens, which flourish in a site protected from the cold winds. Here you can find species rare to Britain, such as Japanese camellias and Casucasian wingnut. Other attractions close by include Monkey World, Bovington Tank Museum, Milton Abbey, Athelhampton House and the National Trust’s Corfe Castle. Slightly further afield, you can visit Swanage, Poole and Poole Quay. Poole harbour is the second largest natural harbour in the world, and from here you can take the ferry to Sandbanks or Brownsea Island Nature Reserve with its red squirrels. Why not also take a ferry and visit the Channel Islands of Guernsey and Jersey? Lyme Regis is also another hot spot to visit, known locally as the ’pearl of Dorset’, and is a great place for searching for fossils found in the cliffs and along the beach. If you love golf, Dorset’s Camedown Golf Course is just 2 miles away, and where the Ryder Cup was started. Beach 4 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 500 yards.
Blacksmith’s Cottage (ref UK10211) and Carpenters Cottage (ref UK10239) can be booked together to accommodate up to 8 guests.

The week we spent at Carpenter's Cottage was excellent and the owner very helpful.
The week we spent at Carpenter's Cottage was excellent and the owner very helpful. The standard of accommodation was very good and the amenities provided were exceptional. There were some lovely walks close to the cottage and a pub just around the corner which provided very good food. I would definitely use Carpenter's Cottage again.
Very clean, excellent area, great hosts, lovely little hamper of welcome goodies. All facilities you would need for a short break. Only thing lacking was outdoor space but we were made aware of this and as it was a short break not a problem. Would definitely stay there again.

Very pleased with this cottage.
Very pleased with this cottage. It's super clean, comfortable and has everything you need except just bring your own shower gel and shampoo. Heating, shower, lighting, kitchen appliances etc is all in superb working condition. The decor is quite nice in the cottage plus parking for one car outside is a bonus. Andrea the host is very welcoming and friendly. We appreciate the welcome hamper which had a drink, some snacks and fruit. It's a great location not too far from Weymouth and there is some walking/exploring you can do from the cottage directions can be found in the folders on the table. There were alsosome board games inside the table which was a nice treat for some family time at the end of the day! Plus the WiFi is in very good working condition. I would definitely look to stay here again if coming back to Weymouth for a mini holiday.

First time using the cottage website to book somewhere, and when we came across Carpenters Cottage, we instantly booked. The location is perfect for all local amenities and for visiting our friends who live close by.Andrea was super lovely and got in touch prior to our visit to check what time we would be arriving and was there to meet us. The hamper was a lovely touch, thank you!Good to see they are doing their best to be sustainable and green. The bed is firm, but one of the comfiest I have slept in whilst away. We didn't use the pillows as we took our own. The shower head looks like it might need replacing, which is a quick fix. It didn't cause any issues, just an observation. It would be a nice idea to maybe add a basket and a couple of throws for the colder months, as the cottage is cosy and it would be lovely to curl up with a glass of wine relaxing. All in all fantastic and we will definitely be booking again.

The cottage was clean, our host was very friendly, we had everything that you could want, we was left a lovely hamper and treats for Jessie, offered to help ourselves to the the herbs and tomatoes growing outside. We would have preferred to have a garden for the dog to go out (knew there wasn’t one) but we was given access to a large field over the road which Jessie loved playing in.

Fantastic property with everything you could want and very stylish, new and clean. The welcome packs for humans and dog were a lovely touch and very generous and the dog walking book was spot on. Very well placed for gorgeous walks along the coast and in the countryside and great visits to pubs that welcome dogs. Would not hesitate to recommend the property.

There is no enclosed area to let your dog out.
There is no enclosed area to let your dog out. The courtyard is basically a driveway that services a couple of cottages.
There is no back door so had to bring the dog in through the front door into a carpeted hall and which was not ideal considering how wet we all were from our walks.
The cottage is situated on a busy road and with the rain at night, it was very noisy with the traffic.

Lovely, modern cottage, spacious layout and well equipped.
Lovely, modern cottage, spacious layout and well equipped. Good location with easy access to Weymouth by car or bus. Highly recommended.
Conveniently located near Weymouth and open countryside, with lots of walks this newly established let is ideal for a couple with two children and a dog. The welcome packs with all essentials provided were a pleasant surprise much appreciated by our Labrador in particular. The internal decor is fresh and the lovely upstairs toilet/shower room is fully tiled and spacious. The main bedroom is spacious too and the bed extremely comfortable. Annie, the owner lives next door and is very helpful and approachable.
We thoroughly enjoyed our very brief stay and would certainly return if visiting the area again.
