Why they chose this property
The property dates from the early 1800's - it is not a 'grand' house - it was a farmhouse until the 1960's. Unusually for houses of this type and period it has very wonderful views down the lake and on a very still night you can see in the lights of Galway, thirty miles south, in the distance.
It is extremely secluded, is on what is referred to as the 'South Lake" of the Corrib, it is visible from the lake but not from the road. You approach the house by means of a private and very 'windey' road.
The house faces almost fully South, every room is full of light with clear views from all of the bedrooms. Downstairs there is a modern eat-in kitchen, with a Neff oven, Miele dishwasher, induction hob and hood. There is a large comfortable sitting room with a Wood stove, and a charming 'parlour' with an open fire. The kitchen and sitting room have floor to ceiling windows to maximise the view, all the downstairs rooms have tables large enough for dinner parties of up to eight.
Upstairs there is a modern bathroom with electric shower and bidet. There are two double and one single bedrooms and lots of towels, duvet covers, rugs and comforters in the world's largest 'hot press' (airing cupboard). There is a laundry room with new washing machine and drier on this floor and this room has a Pilates reformer and weights also.
Outside there is a woodshed full of dry wood for the stove. There is also a shed - with another washing machine and drier, sink and WC - where you can store rods and fishing gear and which has a metal table on which you can gut your catch.
The house is full of books, and the owner spends many mornings dipping into these and of course looking at the changing sky...
What makes this property unique
The nearest village is Cornamona, where there is a very well-stocked village shop, and a pub, O'Malley's. In the next village there is a small supermarket and two excellent pub-restaurants. The nearest swanky restaurant is at Ashford castle which is eight miles away!
Galway city is one hour's drive. Galway is a very woke town, lots of great restaurants, theatre, music, bars, shops.
The most beautiful remote beach - Glassilaun - is 45 minutes' drive.
We are lucky to have access to a couple of excellent chefs who are available to provide catering on request for parties of up to eight.
